    Better free alternatives:

    LogMeIn - But this requires you to install the applet to your account. So if you aren’t physically present it would be tough to say install on your grandma’s system who needs immediate help.

    ShowMyPc - Is a free web based VNC viewer. What’s so great? The person needing help goes to a website, downloads the small executable, gets a code. They then give you that code, you download the applet and connect to their system. No firewall configs and its free! So this is good to say initiate a connection then install something more permanent like LogMeIn for future connects: http://showmypc.com/how-it-works.html

    Also, UltraVNC is free and nice, pretty easy to setup too, but requires router port forwarding. Good back door alternative should your RDP or LogMeIn fail.

    PCAnywhere, only old skool fools use it any more. Too expensive, no web based client deployment, expensive.

    @15 venowhed
    my sentiments exactly!
    gotoassist is much better for remote help situations, if ya wanna remote access your own PC then use RDP w/ 2x SecureRDP and mod your termserv.dll to allow multiple users.

    Martin,
    You might want to check out TeamViewer (www.teamviewer.com).

    TeamViewer is free to use and covers a wide range of use cases like desktop sharing, VPN, control of Win + Mac OS, remote reboot, remote control of servers and unattended PCs, session recording and many more…

    If you should have any questions to TeamViewer I’ll be glad to provide you all the information.

    All the best,
    Constantin

    screw teamviewer,

    Radmin takes the cake.
    It is the fastest remote control software available and blows teamviewer right outta the water.

    Its main features include;
    # Remote control
    # Remote viewing
    # File Transferring
    # Works over Internet and LAN
    # Text & Voice chat
    # Desktop sharing

    with the latest one including;
    # Intel® AMT support, which allows the control of a remote computer that is turned off, has no operating system installed or if its operating system hangs

    Radmin isn’t free at all. LogMeIn, UltraVNC and RDP are. So I think we are sharing two different arguments.

    Also, ShowMyPC does NOT require any account setup. Just click and go, nothing else.
