This "antivirus" is 100% worthless. Really, you are better off with nothing. Do NOT install the firewall component because you cannot turn it off, ever, unless you uninstall, reinstall, custom and choose not to have it.

    Worst AV of all time.

@venom : The firewall can be turned off by selecting disable for the Network Threat protection category… not sure what you're talking about, the virus protection works well.

Is this like a replacement for Norton because "norton" became a swear word for computer nerds so they needed a fresh image to continue selling the same crap? So when was this released and how is it the program is up to version 11 and I have never heard of it?

Dont get me wrong, I still use Symantec Corporate Edition and claim it as one of the best anti-virus's available.

If you do not know how to configure a firewall or antivirus then I can see why you would not like this product. I don't understand how people speak about security programs when they obviously know nothing about them. First of all any good security program will eat up resources because real time scanning must monitor every real time operation. I've tried some of those lite antivirus programs and they don't work. They don't catch many viruses because they are not actively scanning all communications with the internet and local files.
Firewall is easy to disable if you like or configure to open ports and communication based on IP addresses. Most people won't use software firewall anyways because many use hardware firewall instead that are more powerful and less taxing on computer resources.

You're joking, aren't you? Give me NOD32, MalwareBytes Anti Malware and Look n' Stop over this piece of crap any day. Together, the file size and memory use is a fraction of the size of this, but they actually do catch malware — unlike Nortons/Symantec, which is always a day late and a trojan definition short.

I'm glad you brought up NOD32, it is a fine example of antivirus that don't work. While using an updated copy of NOD32 on one of PCs I caught the following virus:

    http://www.symantec.com/security_response/print_writeup.jsp?docid=2005-041514-1510-99

    http://threatinfo.trendmicro.com/vinfo/virusencyclo/default5.asp?vname=WORM_SDBOT.CSO

So no, it doesn't work. Symantec Corporate found both viruses and deleted them immediately after trying numerous other antivirus programs as a test.

I'm happy for you that you enjoy using NOD32 but I give you real examples, what can you give me besides your testimony?

Symantec is the company that makes Norton antivirus too. This program is way slimmer and better though.

After upgrading to MR4 MP2 I've noticed that we no longer get notifications when a device or application control rule is triggered. We have it configured to notify but it's not working. In fact the message that the system needs to be restarted to load the Device and Application Control is not working either. The client logs show these rules are triggered and working and I even found a message stating the system needed to be restarted for the App and Device control.

Can anyone verify if they are able to get notifications to work in this latest release?

as for 64 bit, this program works, but you won't have right click options in vista64 or xp64 (scan for viruses). AFAIK there is no really good antivirus shich works well in 64 bit, but there is less need, since in 64 bit there are less hazards, such as: no 64 bit rootkits.

@22 Not true. There are many Antivirus that work well with x64. Even Symantec has one. I have installed it on customers computers. Presently I use Avast with 2 x64 computers and quite happy with its performance.

    > Norton is our consumer solution.
    > SEP is our corporate/enterprise full scalable solution.
    > SEP is fully supported on x64 (I have it on a Intel QuadCore game machine for several months) and the lastest version will run on Windows 7 (while not officially supported until final public release).
    > The SEP MR4 MPx typical memory footprint with ALL features enable is about 27MB (results of my working T60p laptop with WinXP Pro SP3- no need for marketing stuff data).
    > We produce about 12000 signatures/day, and yes, we may miss some (other may miss alot)!
    > The fw is the Sygate technology (4 consecutive yrs as leader by Gartner!)
    > All the natively integrate technologies on the SEP agent are from the several companies acquired in the last years (Symantec,Veritas, Sygate, WholeSecurity, etc) and much more surprises on the next major release (SEP12) in the end of the year!
    > The NAC technology natively integrated on the SEP agent as been nominate by Networkworld "Best-all-around all-in-one NAC product", beating Cisco and other vendors.
    > We have real world hundred thousands deployments from 5 seats to 500.000!
    > Everyday we do technical displacements of the competition, specially from McAfee (they like better our management philosophy).
    > And no… we are not perfect… but what I do like best in the company are… the persons! (they make what the company is!).

In the end, no security software is perfect…and everyone has the right to his opinion and to like whatever is used to!

    Cheers,

this release doesnt work on 64-bit, the installer doesnt launch and tells you to download the x64 version instead.

Who can tell me if this version can work well on Windows 7?

In my computer (running Windows 7), the FireWall and Proactive Thread Protection must be disabled. LiveUpdate also can not work well.

This is more advanced than Norton 360 and is recommended for use in business/corporate environments. Norton 360 is targeted to the home user. If you have a server use this as Norton 360 won't install on servers.

I have Norton Inet security 2009 installed, and when I unrar this file, it blocks the setup.exe saying it's a trojan. Whats with that?

  28. venom
    May 23rd, 2009 | 18:56

No, you cannot just right click and end the firewall. If you right click the Gold and White shield in Endpoint, guess what? It will still block network traffic and catch viruses, just like the previous corp version. That sucks because you cannot narrow down the problem.

Do this. Install Endpoint, play Company of Heroes, host a game. Cannot do it, no one can connect. Right click Endpoint and choose Disable.

Try CoH again, still cannot connect.

Kill the Endpoint service using taskkill, now try CoH, oh wow it works.

Endpoint is garbage. Anyone using anything other than Kaspersky Internet Security for their personal system is a fool and knows nothing of AV products.

I have 6 virtual machines with AV products, and Endpoint is by far the worst where Kaspersky, Avira and Nod seem to do great.

Trend Scanmail for Corporations trumps Endpoint on all fronts.

    @32

@ssh0le… your not comparing apples to apples…

If you were just a little bit smart (seems dogs are smarter than you!) you'll know how to properly understand and configure others technology… instead of "cannot narrow down the problem"!

And that right… the world is full of fools… without mirrors in their house!

DO you even know what virtual machines are? Or read it somewhere and thought its kool?

    Stupid @ashole!!

    To the :Symantec Employee Engineer:

Will the Norton Internet Security 2009 catch more malware or will The Symantec EndPoint protection 11? Is one product ahead of the other? I have had cases where the EndPoint did not catch a rootkit, but the IS 2009 did. Which does a better job (or are they the same) Thanks
