    Now that Macs are a bit more popular, people are actually bothering to write viruses for them. So this might be something good for you mac users. Don’t want your overpriced laptop to be ruined now do you?

    @4

    Not bashing no one. Just giving out helpful advice from the experienced

    If anyone bashes anyone, its macs bashing PC’s. The mac commercials alone you should be ashamed of.

    Let’s not have an argument about why this should/shouldn’t be posted, or why mac is better than pc or vice versa. People have a system that suits them and whatever the next person has shouldn’t bother anyone. If it does, then….I don’t know what to think. Why? comes to mind.

    Anyway, I have heard that Symantec for the Mac isn’t great and that ClamXAV is a much better option. Any mac users recommend this over Clam? Should we stay away or convert to Symantec now?

    Let’s all get along ;)

    Your picture and write up is for Norton (although yes made by Symantec)
    The App listed is the Symantec corporate edition; it’s nothing like the Norton variant and is streets ahead.

    Wouldn’t touch Norton with a bargepole but the Symantec corporate AV products are small, fast, accurate and above all very good.

    I’ve got a mate works for Symantec. He says they don’t have customers - just victims… =]

    May 15th, 2008 | 16:27

    i’ve been using mac for over 8 years - only heard of one virus that went around and it didn’t even reach that many computers either. so no, not really.

    DO NOT INSTALL NORTON ON A MAC UNLESS YOU WANT IT TO SLOW DOWN TO A REALLY CRAPPY SLOW SPEED - SOME MAY WANT TO DO THIS TO GET THAT TRUE SLOW WINDOWS EXPERIENCE. lol :D

    I never used a mac,just wanted to say that symantec antivirus is different than norton anti virus.They don’t use the same engine.Symantec endpoint protection ,and symantec anti virus corporate edition for windows are very good products,who offer very good protection,not the lightest av’s but they decreased the ram usage a lot,while norton anti virus is still a piece of s…t.And to answer i have no ideea about the malware that can affect Mac users.

    Hi ppl,

    @9,
    I agree. After 25 years of working professionally in IT, I’m sick to death of the Mac vs. PC vs. Linux debates. They used to be quite interesting, but now have devolved into pathetic name calling, amongst the least. I’ve found that people will buy the hardware of their choice. People like Mac’s, people like Windows and people like Linux. Some people even like SPARC :-)

    For all people who say that MAC viruses don’t exist, please do some independant research first - don’t just listen to what your mates say. An example is “Inqtana.A Worm”, which I found in less than 1 minute in google.

    There are also Viruses which infect Microsoft products running on Mac’s - “Melissa” is one which springs to mind quite readily, since I had to deal with it.

    The debate between PC and Mac will always rage, but is completely useless. It’s literally like comparing apples and oranges. I begin to wonder exactly how many people realise the actual differences between them? “Macintosh” or “Apple Mac” is a combinatory term used to describe an all-in-one closed system architecture computer. E.g, Apple makes the hardware, box, and operating system. Microsoft only makes an operating system, which can run on almost any old hardware.

    This was the original difference closed system artitecture (Apple) vs. open system artitecture (IBM-PC). For you younger people, ever heard the term “IBM compatible”? This is where it came from.

    In a nutshell, Apple completly controlled their computer from start to finish, resulting in a stable (but limited) operating system. I say ‘limited’ because it would only run on Apple boxes (without screwing around with it). IBM went the other way, allowing ANYONE to open up the boxes, make hardware, create software - all with the help of one Mr. Bill Gates, who with a bit of help, purchased / wrote / adapted an open operating system call MS/PC-DOS. For more info, check the Microsoft Wiki, I’m sure that will have more info.

    Essentially, the purpose of this lenghty monologue is this: different computers for different people. I work with Mac’s. PC’s and Linux - personally, I prefer PC’s, but that’s my preference. Mac’s and Linux systems can’t do what -I- need most of the time.

    There’s my 2c.

    P.S.
    Norton used to be a really great system until Symantec bought them.. Does anyone remember Norton Commander? Or the original Norton SpeedDisk? I was amazed to see it go through sector by sector… And hoped the power stayed on.

    #6, macs bashing pc’s? please tell me that you have your head so far up your ass, that you cant go past the apple logo to find out that your mac is just an OS covering pc hardware, sort of like a transvestite that tries to be a man. get out from being under a rock and look at all the pc clones that are installing osx as a choice of OS.
