Ah here’s Johnny Depp’s latest world renowned film, Sweeney Todd, in some kick ass 720p quality! Not sure on whether there is a BluRay release scheduled by Dreamworks in the US, but in the UK this will be released on May 19th so we get this 5 days ahead

Quality:Could have used some DTS 1.5mbps audio, but AC3 ain’t that bad 
. Anyway the video is great as expected coming in with a bitrate of 4737kbps. English subs are also included so enjoy =].

I just watched the sample on my TV via VGA from laptop and it looks great…i would rather burn it to DVD though, but i don’t want to deal with converting.

Use ConvertXtoDVD. I did with Mr. Brooks blu-ray and it worked fine.

What’s the point of converting it to DVD format, once you convert it, it wont be HD anymore. You may as well just download the DVDRip or DVDR.
Well 4.42 is generally dvd-size isn’t it? So all the conversion is doing is changing it from mkv to vob.

Hate to burst the bubble of all those who loved this flick, but did any of you ever see this play in the theater?!?!
Depp is a pretty good actor, but Sweeney he is not.
This flick cuts out numerous necessary scenes. The music is stressed at the expense of the action.
In short, the entire production is a very pale shadow of what “Sweeny Todd” was meant to be.
Go see it at a local college theater.
ANY competent production by a local theater group will leave you hanging on the edge of your seat. Depp, on the other hand, will leave you slouched and sleeping in it.

Look, a play and a movie are different mediums. Things *had* to be cut in order to fit the film into an acceptable timeframe.
I can’t argue the point of who was the better Sweeney. I’ve nothing to compare Johnny to, save for those song montages on YT. I personally found him quite enjoyable as Sweeney, in any case.

That’s true for the video part: the 720p resolution will be converted to 720×480 NTSC or 720×576 PAL. But for the audio part, the DVD conversion (ConvertXtoDVD)will not touch the Dolby Digital Plus 5.1 @ 640 kbps, so you get a custom DVD from an HD source which generates pretty damn good video (so close to the original DVD that I can’t see the difference on my 32 inch screen) and you have better audio than the original retail DVD @ 448 kbps. So it’s not that stupid to do it, unless the original DVD has DTS sound which would be encoded @ 755 kbps or so.

You’re missing the point. I’m not saying there’s no difference between HD and 720×480. I’m saying that after conversion, 720p will be 720×480 just like any NTSC DVD, and that you’ll hardly notice the difference between your custom DVD and the DVDR. As for Dolby Digital or Dolby Digital Plus : so what’s the encoding of DDPlus if not 640 kbps ? I thought that was it. Anyway, this one is 640, as it’s usually the case on HD rips that use AC3, the DVD never goes over 448, so this one is better and after conversion to DVD, it will remain 640, so better audio than the retail DVD. That was my point.
