Releaselog

Survive Style 5 Plus 2004 DVDRip XviD-iMBT

A while back a rlslog reader gave me the idea to start doing Releaselog Staff picks of scene releases. I thought this was a really good idea and shared it with some of the staff who agreed and so did Martin. Bleez has already posted a first staff pick (Donnie Darko) but I just thought I’d introduce the actual idea properly. The plan is that when there are no other posts to make, Staff members can share some of their favourite releases with you. This will give you as much rlslog reading pleasure as possible, since a lot of you have noted that you hate returning to rlslog after a few hours and finding nothing new to read/download. The staff pick idea might also help you find new and cool stuff! Feedback to this idea is welcome in the comments.

My very first pick will be one of my all time favourite films: Survive Style 5+. Its very hard to explain what this film is about or what makes it such a great watch. Its even difficult for me to explain why I love it so much, but its a mixture of great cinematography, a great soundtrack and a cool Japanese cast (plus Vinnie Jones lol). The atmosphere of the movie is simply amazing and the colours and pretty much all the locations and sets could be considered art. If you like linear plots this film is probably not something for you, since the film follows 5 different stories (as the title implies) that in some way intertwine in the end. However if you like film eye-candy with fun music and an endearing plot, this might be something for you. It probably helps if you have a general interest in Japanese movies and culture but even if you don’t I urge you to check this rls out.

A man continually trying and failing to get his wife to stay dead; a self-absorbed ad agency creative director who comes up with one unworkably inane idea after another; a Brittish hitman who only wants to know everyone’s function in life; and an unfortunate office worker and father whose brain is left scrambled after a stage hypnotist is murdered in mid-performance. Starting off as unrelated plot lines, they intertwine with each other as they continue on their respective ways.

Quality: The quality of this rls is great. iMBT have supplied a top notch DVDRip at 1178kb/s video bitrate and 448kb/s bitrate AC3 audio. Picture quality is great and the colours are all vibrant and saturated as they were meant to be seen. You really can’t ask for much more from a DVDRip rls. English subtitles are naturally included.

This film includes the now rather famous Vinnie Jones as a British assassin. His role is pretty funny but definitely not the highlight of the film. Performances by Tadanobu Asano, Hiroshi Abe, Jai West and the beautiful Reika Hashimoto (although she dosen’t speak a single word during the entire film) make this film shine :D . This film is still being seeded at The Pirate Bay (see torrent link below) but by very few people. If you enjoy the film, please help seed it.

    @Heckle:

    The way you worded it made it sound like you were directing the question at rlslog. If you’re talking to me, use my nick.

    You just don’t know how to use the english language to your advantage m8.

    Again, watch the film before judging it if you want to give off a slight hint of maturity.

    It’s a very good movie, although it might be an “acquired” taste. It’s very quirky and I suppose very Japanese, humour wise. The cinematography and directing is also top notch.

    Tadanobu Asano (you can think of him as Japan’s Johnny Depp) is awesome as always and Vinnie Jones, whilst not exactly the best actor in the world, is actually quite good in this or at least plays his part well.

    Good pick ReeGed :)

    For more Tadanobu Asano movies, check out Ichi the Killer, Zatoichi, The Taste of Tea and Gohatto. None of these films are similar to Survive Style 5+ (then again, what is) but each are pretty good on their own right - it shows how diverse Asano as an actor is.

    It will be a good idea if Rslog team scans the existing posts library and indexes their good post under staff pick.
    It will give quick access to good stuff who recently discovered Rslog and may be missed some of the good releases.
    And also it will help rebuild the torrent health of the older ones…
    Also consider creating sub section under staff Picks for Movies Games and Apps…

    Very mediocre movie, too silly, too typical neo-Japanese, in fact, nothing special, that can’t be found in a anime. An all time favorite from one from the staff? Maybe, I am too old, have a more mature taste and know so much about movie history, that such a release for me is redundant. Thanks for the post, though. Opening up for a staff’s taste is always interesting. A favoritie movie for me would definitely be before 1977 and, of course, not american.

    ReeGed: Download the torrent at The Pirate Bay and uncheck the .avi files (torrent programs like uTorrent and Azureus allow you to do this). This way you only have to download the .srt subtitle files.

    but @55, your rules for favourite movies are stupid. and i guess some of the popularity for this site is down to the editorial of the staff, i mean yeah they post all the obvious releases, but they select from the unpopular ones which helps you see good films you didnt know of.

    @75

    Burning to DVD with subs is easy with the use of a program called “ConvertXtoDVD” which has also been posted about. Just type convertXtoDVD in rlslog’s search bar and you will find it….

    After you install the program, all you need to do is drag the movie(s) you want to convert into the box. (Its all drag and drop). If its one part movie, drag just the 1 .avi file,… if there’s 2 same thing.

    After you place the file in the box, a plus sign will appear infront of it. Just click that plus sign, and more plus signs will appear. Look for the plus sign now, next to “Subtitles” right click subtitles, and pick “Add subtitle Channel”… a pop-up will appear allowing you to search for your .srt(subtitle) file and allow you to then choose which one it is.

    After you’ve added it, just click convert. And your done… the program will either burn it for you, or you can use the files for a later burn. Just be sure to turn the subtitles on with your DVD controller while watching it. All set. :) Hope that helped.

    Great idea I love it!!

    The only bad part of rlslog is when there are no updates well and maybe some of the rude f**ks that post.

    Can’t wait to see it.

    oh, starring my new favourite abe hiroshi. asano tadanobu has of course been a long favourite of mine, even though i don’t share his taste in women.

    a wee bit off-topic, but…..my partner claims she saw asano the other day in omotesando, i managed to see the back of the person she claims was asano. does that count for anything?

    lastly, back on topic again, tu reeged for yet another gem (hopefully)!
