    Nice post martin.

I don’t really find pop-ups are as much of a problem as they used to be, maybe the companies who do them have started to give up after most browsers have built-in pop-up blockers now.

    Crap.

Freeware such as Proxomitron can do x times better.
It works as a local proxy, filters all ad- and crap-code, and rewrites it, before it is even displayed in your browser.

Yeah, who on earth would pay (or even pirate) payware popup/adblockers, you get good stuff for free.

Or just use Linux and don’t worry about any of that shit.

Big piece of crapware. Stay away from it!

Google “hosts file” and install one of those.
Tells your network that http://ads.adserver.com is on your own machine instead of the internet so no data goes anywhere. Get’s rid of most adverts without having to run a program.

I love your site! It’s the first of it’s kind that I’ve seen and you’re doing an awesome job. The only complaint I have is that I would like to see more encouragement for people to buy the software/games being released by the scene if they find them useful and can afford them. The reason I use torrents to try software is that there is so much crap out there that you could spend ass loads of money and never really find what you want. However, the developers of the good stuff should get some cash for continued development but maybe a new $$ model is needed (ads?). The prices of software really needs to come down so they can be accessible to everyone. Anyways, my point is that I think it’s important for people to support and respect developers if not with the wallet then at least in principle.

Kran has the esiest solution: Use a Hosts file to block popups and ads. Hosts files can be used to blacklist addresses.

I use Bluetack Forum’s (B.I.S.S.) own Hosts file (http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=8406. There are directions on how to replace Windows own Hosts file. Really simple and needs no installed software or Registry changes.

B.I.S.S. has made things even easier by offering a nice GUI which facilitates downloading, installing, turning off (in case a page or info blocked – has not happened to me yet, but it could), turning on, editing, appending, backing up, etc of Hosts files. It’s called B.I.S.S. Hosts Manager (http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?showtopic=9240 with the actual DL at http://www.bluetack.co.uk/forums/index.php?act=dscript&CODE=showdetails&f_id=5).

I have it istalled and works flawlessly (You may need to disabled DNS Service, which can be done manually or via Hosts Manager) and prevented nearly all the PITA ads and popups without loss of any function or desired information (yet).

    Oh yeah. It’s free.

That statement is incorrect. Ad Muncher was the first ad blocker to do all that.

Ditto for Ad Muncher, which does an excellent job and has a very responsive developer for when problems arise, as they invariably do. In spite of not being updated in years due to the author’s death, Proxomitron is very good for the technicaly inclined user.

used the free download of super antispyware and liked it so much I downloaded and tried their super adblocker. It comes with a whole host of tools and devices and includes a registered version of super antispyware for free. After installing it and running a system scan it saw my IObit advanced system care and crashed my machine. couln’t start the system anymore. It would immediately crash on boot since both programs were in the startup sequence. Booted to a dos prompt and disabled SuperAB. I debated which one to remove.. and decided to try SuperAB first. On uninstall, SuperAB told me to disable my IObit security first. No way in hell is a program going to tell me to disable my security programs to do an uninstall. I used the forced uninstall on IObits uninstall tool to remove SuperAB and after it was removed, it launched an IExplorer to take me to the SuperAB page to try and get me to buy something else. Looks good on the front end, but when you get into a situation where they won’t let you do a clean uninstall…thats a shady way to do buisness and my opinion of them has done a complete 180.
