DrKenjiro, have you ever thought that ppl that bash it are also ppl familiar with it? I doubt you'll see M$ supporters on such a site!

And open source is another thing, that we don't discuss here cause it's not the right place. Yes, it's nice... as long as it for users and not "creators"... open source is tempting and a lot of commercial programmers steal parts of it integrating them into their profit-making-made-by-someone-else apps... thereby violating the GNU General Public License.

You talk about piracy?... did you know that using MySQL Generally Available (free) versions outside an open source os like Windows with a commercial product is a violation of their public use license?... No, you didn't! Neither do the authorities that bust all of those businesses that you've mentioned. It's open source and it's not protected.

So to sum up: open-source is raped, ripped off and left to the mercy of the ones who don't agree with uncle Gates!

Hello!

I think what all you OO-bashers miss out, is that OO is free and also functional enough for most private and/or business users.
Here in Austria companies get in a lot of trouble when they are caught using pirated software (I guess it's the same everywhere else) and MSO isn't really cheap. You should also think about the MS upgrade policy. If you don't upgrade when they want you to, the products get much more expensive!! :(
If you just steal your software like I do, you couldn't care less :)
I use OO at home (Linux) and MSO at work, so I'm used to both.
What I really love is the concept of Open-Source. Back when I was using Windows I only used cracked software. Now with Linux I found Open-Source replacements for all my applications, wich is really (be honest!) great. Have a nice day, lads! :)

Well I like Office 2007 especially because of the ribbon! I find it much quicker to use than having to open up different menus.
I've tried openoffice various times but always end up going back to MS.

@19 Dave, Zip it. For someone who still cannot write single digit numbers properly, you have typed too much. Go finish your school education first before lecturing others dumbass.

Our company (a global one) is switching to Office 2007 shortly and we have had to budget a substantial amount for training all the employees, whereas when we upgraded from office xp to office 2003, no such budget was required. And lets face it, for normal excel and word tasks, you really will never/rarely ever use the office 2007 added functionality, nor is that added functionality essential to delivering spreadsheets. I use excel the most and I find that ribbon thing the most annoying. Thank god there is that classic menu software!

@13 Dave, yes I've used Ashampoo, 602 Pro, Floppy, GOffice, Siag, Corel, M$, Works, Star, Offix, Kingsoft, Zoho, Softmaker, IBM, SSuite and many other office suites prolly you haven't even heard of as at least 1 of them was closed beta and never saw daylight.
And still I hate M$ Office 2007, you got any problem with that or you didn't like me thanking Vantec?

If you think OpenOffice or StarOffice is on par with MS Office, I suggest you try more than just writing a letter. Excel alone never mind Access completely defecates on OpenOffice/StarOffice

megalouis, that's the same thing when kids learn programming... instead of figuring out algorithmic they attach themselves to the programming language making migration to a more advanced language like from pascal to c++ or even java and .net a pain. (the reason we have so many bad programs)

If people would learn to groups objects to their use groups then they would find 2007 really easy and more effective than filling most of the screen with toolbars from which most people use around 40% of what's on them.

bad habits...

also regarding the topic: no OO or StarOffice can compete with MS Office... I've used OO at work cause of the cheapskates that run the company and it sucks... it has ver limited features compared to MS Office...

One thing that I disliked in particular was the fact that wen trying to color a table or something I had to use a limited set of colors, 'cause that's how much it would support... and a lot of them looked really... n00bish!

juri's point... +1
