Street Thief 2006 LiMiTED DVDRip XviD-SiNK

It’s not that common to see a limited movie with so many peers and popularity, but “Street Thief” from beginning director Malik Bader is such a case. The movie doesn’t even have actors listed at IMDB and there are only 97 votes so far, but most reviews are very positive and the idea behind Street Thief is so original it simply works.

Over the course of a year, filmmakers Bader and Harrison follow Chicago’s most elusive burglar, Kaspar Carr, as he taps phones, cases stores, and pulls off numerous scores. Carr is a boastful, foul-mouthed solo thief and refuses the filmmakers’ attempts to draw him out of his shell. As Carr drags the filmmakers deeper into his murky world of disguises and sinister surprises, the line between documentarian and criminal accomplice becomes increasingly blurred.

    SPOILER ALERT!
    This isn’t real.
    I hate to break it to anyone who thinks this is about a real person because it isn’t. They guy who plays “Kaspar Carr” is the main writer. His brother is in prison for burglary, and has gotten many stories from fellow prisoners. The writer amalgamated these stories, and made them all about one imaginary master thief, Kaspar Carr.

    if you want to see something similar done before watch “man bites dog” ( http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0103905 ) a truly brilliant movie… (ok i agree a bit gross for someone with weak stomach :)

    @LucidHarmony

    You may not have that completely accuarate. Carr is a real person.

    @6 You’d be surprised at the gullibility of your average person. Look at all the religious people in the world, all gullible fools.

    Hmmmmmm this is an interesting premise for a movie. I like movies that blur the line between real and fake, definite download.

    If Carr is not a real person, how can he “resist the filmmakers attempts to draw him out of his shell?”

    wow, a strike at peoples public and private beliefs, hmmm, come on that’s what makes this world, or atleast most countries great. A right 2 believe or not believe. gullibility has little 2 do with religion but a lot to do with knowledge versus the lack there of (aka: ignorance).
    Keep up the harmony. ;

    There was an independent Australian film released not too long ago about a hitman that was much funnier and more clever than this copycat could ever be.

    @8 After searching through my many crime tomes, and through the web I have found that he is definitely not a real criminal. I’m sure there is someone named Kaspar Carr somewhere in the world be he isn’t a master thief in the US. He might have been some street thug but he wasn’t any smart phone tapping thief.

    I don’t see why they tried to pass it off as real, when there are real master thieves that never got that much coverage… Joseph Weil, Jack Sheppard, Dick Turpin, and Victor Lustig come to mind. Lustig being one of the best, as he conned people into buying the Eiffel Tower not once but TWICE! Henri Landru was a conman that convinced widows to marry him, then after draining their bank accounts murdered his wives, over 300 women fell victim to him before his execution.

    Street Thief is a Crime/Thriller film, not a documentary - though shot documentarian style, it is no more real than half of the stories ‘Mark Brandon Chopper Read’ tells.

    Those that may take the view-point that this is the genuine article, a documentary, must see “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” as having totally unscripted and unchoreographed scenes throughout.

    But what the hell right?

    “Never let the truth get in the way of a good yarn” - Chopper.

    Lucid: He actually only managed to do it once. The second time the buyer got suspicious and contacted the police. Nevertheless it was a remarkable feat.

    I couldnt find the Disturbia cover amongst all of the NIN albums posted at that link you gave. Where is it?

    September 30th, 2007 | 23:27

    This theme is a copy of the Belgian “Man Bites Dog” or direct translation from French “It Happened in a Neighborhood Near You”.

    I’m sure this movie is great as well, but your review gave it too much credit for being unique.

    yeah that movie is called the magician. it had to be one of the best movies of the year, a truly eye-opening movie. i had so many friends go ‘is this actually real?’. its more realistic than what i’ve seen f this and for anyone that knows who chopper read is, he has personally confirmed that it was more realistic than his own biopic in the portrayal of hitmen. anyone want real cinema? go wath the magician

    Wicked movie 7/10.

    However, I loved the movie so much that I decided to research it afterwards - and after what I found out, I would have to drop my rating to 4.8/10.

    Don’t read up on movie = 7/10
    Read up on movie = 4.8/10
