Just checked this out. Gotta say, I was actually impressed with this movie. I had very low expectations though so that might be a factor. The video compression seems fine although I would like to have seen this bumped up to at least 4 gigs.

I know I know, CGI and animated movies are able to be shrunk to smaller file sizes because of the nature of the images, but there are times where I may have seen compression artifacts in the smoke, haze and dust sequences. But not really too much to complain about.

All in all, another fine release that will go alongside my HDTV Star Wars set. If you're a true Star Wars fan, you'll probably enjoy this as much as I did.

animations are clean and flat in color. hence less compression. live action on the other hand is noisy. go do computer science degree my brothers

guys, i think it's a lot easier to compress a cartoon like this when there's more flat surfaces and less details than in a real picture. maybe that explains a bit why the filesize is so small.

this movie should be at 4GB minimum. Just take a look at the gradients on some scenes, they are horrible. Too much video compression on this one (just like all TV shows at 720p x264 format).

MovieFan: So true. You would think people would check such things before opening their mouths, or at the very least understand that a movie that has an AR different from 16:9 can't possibly be the exact HD resolutions without either cropping it or adding black bars. As you already said, that would either increase the size of the rip, decrease quality or both. Not exactly optimal.

"It seems like with every release somebody is going to complain that it’s not full 720p because it’s not 1280×720."
You're so right MovieFan, it really is starting to get old...

It seems like with every release somebody is going to complain that it's not full 720p because it's not 1280x720.
The encoders crop out the black bars at the top and bottom, so it comes out to be something like 1280x544.
If you want "full" 720, then you'll get black bars (and wasted space) in the image.
They've been doing it since the Xvid days. Did you ever complain that a Xvid release wasn't a full DVD rip because it wasn't 720x480?
Besides getting a nuke if it was, it would have decreased the overall image quality because of the wasted video bit rate to encoded the black space, and because of a fact that big contrast changes (i.e. where the black meets the image) don't compress well.

I hate to tell you younglings this but 1280 x 544 is not technically 720p. To be 720p it has to be 1280 x 720 any thing less the 720 is not 720p. Also why doesn't someone do a 1080p release that is FULL HD at 1920 x 1080p resolution??? May the Force be with you!!!
