You are an idiot. The standard is the HD version and the xvid is just a small re-encode. The standard is always the highest version, not the version that is easier for noobs like you to download. Just like the standard DVDRip is the DVDR version and not the crappy xvid that everyone gets.

It’s two separate groups, so I assume both groups are encoding from their own source file or is there a collaboration? Are they actually re-encoding the HR HD one through xvid? I doubt that, but these days, “the scene” seems to like re-encoding things.

–Considering the large majority of people NORMally obtain the smaller rips, I’d speculate that the smaller version is actually the standard of the choices available. Perhaps it’s the ambiguity of the word standard that causes conflicts as the one posted above.
Standard of choice to watch, possibly, not standard of choice by technical terms that are perpetuated by the limitations of current technology. The scene has their technical standards that they abide by of course, which has nothing to do with the general publics downloading.
why is that everyone who wants to be associated with the “scene” is a total snob and arrogant. There are a few exceptions. You never see bickering like this on threads on miniova just people saying whether the torrents quality is good or not. I think the scene is becoming more and more slack lately and has way too many lame followers. Props to kingben if we had ten more kingbens we wouldn’t need the lame ass scene groups anymore…

@16 … I’m right there with you, except the SCENE is not just movies and TV show rips. You’ve got software and games which do require quite a bit more collaboration than the one-man-show type of thing.
P2P has it’s place and they often beat the SCENE to the punch, but a lot of the time, the SCENE provides a higher quality, even if it is late … this isn’t always the case though, as we’ve all seen some releases get nuked 20 times before an UBER.PROPER.REPACK is released … but I don’t think I’d completely support the SCENE being abolished, though I do wish some of the SCENE groups would be more cooperative with others, and I wish as far as films that they could finally decide to abandon the 700MB CD limit business … who burns VCDs anymore anyway? Can’t we just go with a file-size limit based on a ratio of the film’s runtime? Such as 45min = 350MB, 90min = 700MB, 120min = 1050MB, etc …
I mean, we all hate 2-CD releases for films when they could easily be released as a single ripped file!
@18 if most movies are 90 minutes, which is 700 megs and most shows are 45 min which fits into one cd, why would they abandon the 1CD limit? I’m with you though in releasing larger 1.5 gig files in one rip, I hate having split files or to add to files to a play list.

Simple fix? VirtualDub. Append the 2 files together, voila! Maybe 5 minutes taken out of your life and you get the single file you want.
