Star Trek READNFO TS XviD-DEViSE

Since this movie is very popular DEViSE released another Telesync, but with a german Telesync source. On this release the crop is better, but the video is a little bit darker. Samples included, but I think this one is a bit better:)

A chronicle of the early days of James T. Kirk and his fellow USS Enterprise crew members. Star Trek is a 2009 science fiction film directed by J. J. Abrams, written by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman, and produced by Damon Lindelof and Bryan Burk. It is the eleventh film based on the Star Trek franchise and features the main characters of the original Star Trek series, who are portrayed by a new cast, though the film introduces an alternate timeline differing from the original series. It explores the backstories of James T. Kirk (Chris Pine) and Spock (Zachary Quinto), before they unite aboard the USS Enterprise to combat Nero (Eric Bana), a Romulan from the future who threatens the United Federation of Planets.

Yes, the other copies are sharper and more colorful, but the reason this was released was this:

It's not as cropped as the russian source. I plan on color correcting this version because there's more of the entire picture in it.

"I never watched a Star Trek Movie before……… can I enjoy this movie?"

    YES YOU CAN!!!

I never watched Star Trek either, in fact, when I was watching this film at the theatres I was waiting for the entrance of Obi Wan Kenobi (lol), I got Star Strek confused with Star Wars (watched neither before this one).

Nonetheless, great film for any newbie. Sometimes you feel as if there is an inside joke for star trek fans only, but it doesnt matter, the story line and the action is going to keep you off your seat. I was watching it with my mouth from the beginning scene till the end!

    Live long and prosper.

Here's another screenshot comparing the two:

    http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/8255/devise.jpg

So one is dark and muddy (lack of detail), the other crisp and over-cropped (top of heads missing in many scenes).

Here's hoping for an R5 release soon.

@43 Each to their own. I would say Watchmen was truer to it's source material than the new Star Trek movie is. As good as it is, the new Star Trek is still outclassed by Wrath of Khan as far as plot and story goes. The effects are stunning but that's to be expected from modern technology. It suffers the same problem as the newer Star Wars movies, the newer effects look too sophisticated when you look at the series as a whole.

  38. The Realist
    May 13th, 2009 | 14:43

The old trek series was garbage. This new movie is a big fresh slap in your face in terms of trek. Entertainment it's what we want with a movie and it actually delivers. Thank god the old trek cast is getting too old because I could not stand yet another boring and useless movie.

  39. Moshster
    May 13th, 2009 | 14:44

@49, I agree Trev, the new movie is still huge fun to watch. And a tour de force as far as the special f/x is concerned (ILM showing they are still the best in the business).

The SecretMyths version is better cropped but slighlyt higher contrast. Also the audio is mono even though it's 2 channel.

  40. Moshster
    May 13th, 2009 | 14:48

@51 Realist, I have no problem with the prequel cast of Star Trek, they were all excellent in playing the original roles as their younger versions. But the film as a whole is more gung ho action movie genre than Star Trek. Disappointing that they didn't even use Alexander Courages theme for opening title.

So how does it compare to the TS STG?
Not much of a difference or?

I'd say, next stop R5 and (if some day) DVDscr.
No point in getting every other release just for a few pixels
    extra.

I saw the making of. Even the original has partially this washed out look. I hate movies with bleached colors.

@ #20 XviD isn't reserved for DVDscr, unless you wanna go back to VCD.
    Man, people are stupid.

Anyway, this movie is a sure candidate for Blu-ray.

@53, They did use Alexander Courage's theme but at the end of the movie…where it needed to be because that basically was the birth of the adventures of Star Trek. The sights and sounds of Trek will eventually become familiar with this reboot of the franchise. JJ has commented on how he has always wanted to push the envelope on a series to his liking, hence Fringe and Lost. Now with this new take, he can go in any 500 million directions. Everything that we have come to know from the original series has been secured in another timeline but now we get to live it all over again with various different possible outcomes. Brilliant!

@64 – True they did use it at the end, although I hate it when directors do that. Like with the new 007 reboot, moving the gun barrel sequence to the end, why? Some thing's are perfect as they were the first time round and they should stop tinkering. I'm all for re-energizing (no pun ;) ) but moving key signature elements around in a movie is simply changing details for the sake of change. Lucas could have done the same with the Star Wars prequels but was savvy enough to keep key signature elements the same, like the opening credits, the "far far away" tag etc.
JJ is a good genre director, but I feel he changes things a little too much. Take MI:2, the movie becomes a one man show for the most part whereas MI:1 was a clever update by De Palma while retaining the signature elements of the original series (team work, cool spy gadgets and plot twists).

  62. The Realist
    May 13th, 2009 | 19:43

I disagree with the film being too much action. This is exactly what the trek movies need to be for the most part. We need the better special effects and action that comes with a feature film that we don't get in any of the series that have been aired. We get the substance and morality tales via the series and the best action out of the movies and sadly all of them fell short of action except for this one.

The best action in Star Trek to date has been DS9 and SoA episodes. Glad to see some action in Trek and hopefully it continues.
