I noticed that we have only covered a P2P 720p BluRay release of the latest “Star Trek” movie. And if you know me well, I will only do scene release. Since this is a big movie, I’m gonna bring this up again though it’s about 10 days old already. “Star Trek” is a 2009 science fiction film directed by J. J. Abrams. It is the eleventh film based on the Star Trek franchise and features the main characters of the original Star Trek television series, who are portrayed by a new cast. This rip was released by METiS, size is 1.5 DVD5.

PLOT: The fate of the galaxy rests in the hands of bitter rivals. One, James Kirk, is a delinquent, thrill-seeking Iowa farm boy. The other, Spock, a Vulcan, was raised in a logic-based society that rejects all emotion. As fiery instinct clashes with calm reason, their unlikely but powerful partnership is the only thing capable of leading their crew through unimaginable danger, boldly going where no one has gone before. The human adventure has begun again.

    Will,
    I am fairly new here. Can you please explain to me what you mean by “Scene” vs “P2P” release. What is the difference? If the “P2P” group is able to release before the “Scene” and with better quality then why do you say “And if you know me well, I will only do scene release.”

    Can someone please explain.

    The WiKi release is 1280 x 532, this is 1280×536. Are you really going to miss the two pixels on the top and bottom? Personally I’d rather go for the WiKi release as their releases usually have better quality. The “scene” has rules that are too restrictive (case in point: 700MB release size for Xvid movies. Who burns on CDs anymore?). Non-scene groups often put quality over file size and many times, in addition to better video quality, add extras like multi language subtitles and commentary tracks – since they’re not in a rush to get it out and beat other groups. That is why, for example, the WiKi release of GI Joe is 8GB instead of the scene release of 6.5GB.

    Hi guys,

    I have to agree with Abdoul. I saw Wiki release and I think that image was cut off on top and bottom. It is the most seen at beginning of the movie. When the logo of star trek is shown (after 11 minutes of movie) you can see that it is cut of on top and bottom.
    I was at the theatre and I think movie there were bigger resolution.

    The Wiki Release is brilliant! No need to dl a second time if you already have it from wiki. Plus, the Wiki-audio is DTS, which imo is better than ac3…

    1, The Wiki release overcropped, so you need the METiS release.
    2, AC3 can be DD or DTS dumbass, when it’s taken to a pc the term changes to AC3, it’s the exact same audio track on the dvd.

    Dude, get a clue before you criticize. AC-3 is Dolby Digital, and DTS is by a different company and is a competing standard.

    The “AC3 Filter” for the PC decodes both AC-3 and DTS, but it doesn’t mean they’re the same thing.

    Dolby track is more balanced.
    The DTS track has more punch/kick/energy. Best for Home Theater systems with a good subwoofer and speakers.

    From Wikipedia – DTS (used to be known as Digital Theater Systems, Inc.), renamed as DTS, Inc. (NASDAQ: DTSI), is a multichannel digital surround sound format used for both commercial/theatrical and consumer grade applications.

    768-1536 Kbits/sec for DTS
    vs
    192-448 Kbits/sec for AC3

    AC-3 goes up to 640kbps, and there’s more to audio quality than just bit rate (i.e. efficiency of the codec).

    Hi guys,

    no one noticed weird resolution?
    I can’t help my self but at the beginning when star trek logo is shown you can’t see top and bottom of the logo and you can’t even see beginning and end of the “Star trek” words which are shown with logo.

    Is seems weird and I couldn’t find any explanation. :(
    Do you anyone know why it’s done this way?

    I have a question, why doesn’t the releaser’s upload the digital copy of this movie?

    From what I hear, the BluRay versions come with a digital copy of the movie as well for people to put on other media devices, iPod, etc.
