S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl Update v1.0005-HATRED
The glorious days for STALKER are probably over, this FPS was now replaced by newly released Crysis and Call of Duty 4, but the game has still a lot to offer and it’s nice to see that developers care about the players. The new update v1.0005 fixes strictly multiplayer issues of the game. The patch was released in 5 versions according to the language of the game. This update obviously contains the US one.
Changelog: The optional net traffic compression on a Multi-Player server is now disabled by default. This allows to host dedicated servers on computers with low and average performance. Connecting to the server will be possible only if the host’s version of the game is the same as yours.

I installed Crysis, gave it a go and unistalled it right away, totally a piece of trash.

One thing I find strange about these games that try to be immersive, “realistic”, etc..
Crouching.
Maybe I’m getting old, but it takes me more than 1/50th of a second to crouch. Perhaps a little longer to stand up again.
And I’m talkin about Crysis too, not just Stalker. I mean, what’s so next-gen about crouching smoothly instead of instantly? Weird.
that’s cuz they fit as F**k hence they can control there crouch , not do it in a panic from getting shot at as we would
Great game, best FPS since… hmm. Hard to say.
As one of the finnish reviews said to so well: “It puts a rusty nail into the flesh of average FPS’.”.

I’ve the right hardware and i have all the games. I just don’t got the time (study, sports & work). So like the 2 to 4 hours once a week i can spend gaming…i spend it on STALKER.
In fact after playing this game i began watching documentaries & reading books about the chernobyl inicident. May 2008 i’m gonna visit the area with 3 other friends. It will be like a roadtrip to kiev and a 1-day guided trip to the exclusion zone.

Just wondering, if anyone might happen to have an idea, without going out of your way and without it being too much trouble, for those that have a spare moment, if you could possibly tell me if you think this is better or worse than Halo 3?
Despite some average reviews, and some single player issues and bugs, Stalker is the best online FPS of the year, after playing C0D4 and Team Fortress 2, i have come to realize, just how special the online MP play for Stalker actually is. (And how overrated some of the others are)
It really has the best thought out level design for MP I’ve ever seen, the amount of time spent polishing there level designs is an art, i wish all FPS would learn from what Stalker achieved.

I had more fun with this one than any other release this year.
Hopefully they actually release the prequel called Clear Sky in 2008.

Off the top of my head, STALKER owns Crysis. But, after sitting down for a minute and thinking about it, STALKER is even better.
I didn’t like Crysis either. COD4 single mode is unbelievable though.
The sniping mission near Tchernobyl reminded me of STALKER. Go buy cod4, you wont regret it (even if it’s too short)
How big is this game?
sweet UT3 is out :D. All the good games coming out at the end of the year. Even though ut3 is probably the worst ut game to be released since ut2k4 I am still kind of a unreal fan.
Game is awesome. I hope that we will see an expansion/sequel … although there wasn’t much room for that in the ending…
By the way, non-Russians (and annoyingly, alot of Russians) who find the story to be… different… should know that it is an interpreted rip-off of Andrei Tarkovsky’s film “Stalker,” one of the most legendary artistic and philosophical films in russian surrealism

I still think the crouching needs some work.
And what about laying down? The thing about Stalker I thought was odd, was there’s no actual “stalking” in it.
There’s no sniper rifle, you can’t sneak up on people, or hide, no lying prone, hiding in shadows (not even the Chernobyl one hoho). You really just waltz around and shoot stuff like any other game.
Thief still beats everything.
Good game, I hope they will still make that expansion or something.

I total agree, i think there isn’t the hype like COD4 or Crysis etc… but when play Stalker you soon realize its right up there with the best multiplayer ever CSS!
I just wish there were more people playing Australia.
