Well here’s the last app from me for now. SpeedCommander is another Windows Explorer alternative, but has quite a few good reviews around the web. This one may well be worth a try.
SpeedCommander displays files and folders using the tried and tested two-pane layout. This means that both source and target of a file operation will always be visible. This increases productivity compared to Windows Explorer. It always enhances the speed of navigation through folders, archives and FTP servers. SpeedCommander directly supports a variety of archive formats. This means you can unpack and create the 13 most common archive formats. A modern AddIn interface enables the integration of extensions, providing additional functionality. The WinCeFS AddIn allows you to access PDA devices via ActiveSync. The WfxWrapper AddIn can integrate file system plug-ins written for Total Commander (wfx).

Yep, did a quick search for this and came up with Total Commander - Ultima Prime 2.3 instead. A Total Commander repack with all the plugins and addons pre-installed. Good deal for all the TC fans out there.

Is this a real or demo version? AFAICT, it’s the same size as the demo and lacks Search. The total bold for all folder names is not visually attractive.

There is only one exe file, hence the same size. The serial is what activates it as a full version.

Why the patch for Total Commander 7.02a? There are working key files that don’t require a patch.
anybody remember Norton Commander for DOS? It was great and I used it for many years instead of explorer. Now on Linux I use nautilus for casual browsing and midnight commander (its cmd line) when I have to work with dirs that have 5,000+ files. There are about a half-dozen useful FM’s in *nix that use the 2 pane system: Dolphin, EmelFM, gentoo, gnome-commander, krusader and mc. I know that there are a hundred others, but these are established.
