Speedball 2 Tournament-HATRED

Well known group HATRED are back with a release of Speedball 2. I myself have never played any of the games in this series but after seeing a few screenshots it looks quite interesting and since it’s apparently a classic it makes me want to try it even more. This release contains a lengthy .nfo on how to install the game using steam so read carefully and don’t skip any steps. This release is small coming in at just over 900 MB so it shouldn’t take to long to download this. Download and enjoy :) (See you online ;) )

Description: In 2326, rival gangs form an ultra-violent streetsports league Speedball to settle their deadly disputes. Two teams face each other in bloody battles for a steel ball: Nine on nine – in an all-out rush on the opponents’ goal. Almost any malicious move is permitted. The winner of the matches secures supremacy over the city.

The highly anticipated PC revival to the legendary Amiga classic transforms the futuristic game setting with state-of-the-art technology into a high-speed online sports spectacle. Offering international leagues, a worldwide ranking system and an intuitive matchmaking function, Speedball 2 - Tournament pulls all registers of modern multiplayer gaming action. Original was a great game on the Sega Megadrive/Genesis.

    Got it on an Emu-ROM somewhere. If this is a rubbish remake, then I might have a shot of the ROM for old times sake.

    Good post but I’ll just buy this off Steam.

    One of the original Bitmap Brothers is lead on this project so I have faith that it will be a good recreation.

    They should remake every single Bitmap Brothers game, they were all perfect.

    Wow, I’m not even going to mess with this release. Too much effort. Maybe UNLEASHED will do a Steam-free release, the same way they did with Lost Planet.

    I intend to buy this game once they do a boxed retail release (which they said will be coming in February), anyways.

    November 30th, 2007 | 05:21

    Um, can we maybe get a remotely informing review from what you say is a ‘classic’ and that lots of yas seem to ‘love it’?

    You know - like… “It was a good game, very entertaining, got boring after a few hours, but I came back and it was overall worth my time” sort of thing.

  24. Cedge
    November 30th, 2007 | 05:25

    @ Nuzz:
    It’s a legendary sports game, and one of the most replayable ever. Few people that played it “liked” Speedball 2; they usually LOVED it.

    If you want a remotely informing review, goto a review site.

    @15 UncertainGod,

    I always felt the Bitmap Brothers games were overrated. They were technically well done, but often annoying to play.

    Gods - You wander around a castle, where all the screens look pretty much the same, pressing switches which change something on the other side of the level, but since everything looks so generic, by the time you get to the place where something changed, you can’t tell what’s different because it all looks the same.

    Magic Pockets - Too many areas required you to drop off the edge of a platform without being able to see what was below you, which usually resulted in you landing on a pack of monsters and dying.

    Speedball 2 - Fun in two player, but unless I was doing something massively wrong, next to impossible to beat in one player. Why? I manage to make enough to upgrade all my players so that all of them have max stats. A new match starts, the ball is served, both the computer and I rush forward and the computer player plows through my player like he’s not even there. The computer throws the ball down the length of the field and one of his team members is in perfect position to catch it. I throw the ball down the field and none of my team members are anywhere near it. By the time one of them actually shows up on the screen, he’s on the other side and can’t possibly get to the ball in time to catch it. When I try to use the bonus multiplying loops on the sides of the field, the computer players are right there to catch the ball and send it back through. When the computer throws the ball over to a team member who throws the ball through the loop, my team members are all off twiddling their thumbs. The computer has a whole team of guys who play like experts. I have one team member uner my direct control and a bunch of other guys who avoid the ball like it’s on fire. The computer never moves any of my guys into a good position before switching control to them.

    Maybe all you granddads should remember (hard thing to do when you’re way down from the Amiga age) that this ISN’T Speedball 2 from the Bitmap Bros, but a RE-MAKE! And there is no guarantee that this is a good re-make at that!

    So please check some reviews before you blow your wads in our faces. With all the good games out this will probably be mediocre at best.

    November 30th, 2007 | 14:16

    this is a totally useless “release” as it still needs hugeloads of the steam servers and steam services/processes to be able to run the game.

    maybe some real capable group will actually release a completely standalone offline version of this game, even if that would only be singleplayer/against bots only.

    its no use to have steam involved at any level in a hacked/cracked game.

    the game will stop to work in notime once steam guys modify their systems.

    sucky release after all

    @15.

    I’ll second you on that. The Bitmap bros did some brilliant games back when the most state of the art home computers were Amigas & Atari STs.

    Maybe Speedball would not be my first pick for a full-budget retro remake, but it’s still good to see games devs go back to their retro roots. - In fact, comparitively speaking, some retro games still are every bit as addictive (if not more so) today, than your average overhyped FPS shooter….in my opinion! ;-)
