I like how they mention specifically that the survey was conducted by phone. If they did it by email I bet it would have been marked as spam

I just use two emails.

One to do the usual sign up to this website stuff and the other that is only given out to friends.

The one for signing up to sites (after wiping it a couple months ago) has well over 1000 emails 90% spam. Because I don’t use it that much I can’t be arsed to plow through it.

My other main account on the other hand has little to know spam as I don’t give it out to websites or strangers on the net.

Or the number is decreasing because it’s become a stigma to say you can’t deal with spam. On a phone call, it’s easy to say it doesn’t bother you and appears less often than it used to. Also that you watch noting but the Art History Channel on TV and eat only organic cruelty free food… yeah, right.

I have 2 anti-spam programs running on our exchange at work (120 mailboxes) and I find the amount of spam still very annoying, every day a new load of spammails is coming in, one day I receive dozens of spammail in German, the next day in French, the other day spammails containing only .gif’s etc

The last 30 days our mailserver processed 39305 mails of which 34467 was spam or 88%, on some days we get 98% spam ! Spam is not a thing of the future yet

Since starting using Gmail spam has been reduced dramatically, it´s great! Last place I worked at used hardware-filtering from Borderware, I can highly recommend that! http://www.borderware.com

i never ever had problem with spam.
i protect my email-adresses with
different “proxy”-adresses from
different freemail services.

i don’t use spam filters,
because they are not working properly.
shit happens when you wait for mail
and it is blocked by your stupid
spam filter. and to raise it’s “IQ”
u have to configure it manually –
and often …

Spam is still a problem, but like you said in the OP, Gmail’s spam filter works wonders. Maybe 1 in 500 spam emails will land in my inbox, and even that is a rare occurance.
Besides, how boring would your inbox be if you didn’t have to wade through “ENLARGE YOUR P3NI5″, “GET CHEAP V1AGR4″ and “INTERNET STOCKS FOR MEGACORP ARE ON THE UP” to get to your daily free horoscope email?

People get used to this stuff I suppose and filters usually pick these up. Still spam is something the internet can really do without.
