Spaceforce Rogue Universe DVD-RiSiNG

SpaceForce Rogue Universe is the name of a new game released by group RiSiNG just a while back. Being a space simulation game you get to trade and fight other factions and spaceships to get ahead. This game is non-linear meaning that you can do whatever you want, kind of like GTA. You also get to choice how to play it, you can be a trader or merchant etc, but whats the fun in that you might as well pick the ship with biggest guns and just shot up opposing ships until they make a pretty explosions. The screenshots of the game look pretty good, lots of vivid colors and such make them stand out of the crowd however until i play the game i can’t be sure on quality. I personally have spent many an hour playing these space sim games because they are so good at immersing you into the experience and this one looks to be up there with the best of them.

SpaceForce is an RPG space simulation with a heavy focus on ship development, an immersive universe, and freedom of choice. Players will have the opportunity to engage in trade, exploration, combat, crafting, questing, and diplomacy in addition to ship development and player activities. Players can choose between 10 professions and more than 14 spacecraft. They can earn money and
experience points in order to advance to higher levels. Since A.I. plays a crucial part in SpaceForce, it will create a unique playing experience throughout the game.

Spaceforce - Rogue Universe comes with excellent graphics, accompanied by moderate hardware requirements and the full freedom of choice - in this non-linear space experience, the player is given the opportunity to master the game exactly how he/she wants. It includes trading, fighting, and raiding space stations and fortresses, but also the examination of cryptic artefact’s and anomalies and, of course, mind-blowing warps through wormholes and long-distance space gates.

Features:

  • An open ended beautiful and innovative 3D space environment - decorated with stars, planets, moons, asteroids, comets, black holes, star bases, floating cities and all ready for exploration, development, trade, diplomacy, or conflict.
  • Player is able to explore the galaxy as a member of one of 10 civilizations placed on different starting locations across the universe.
  • Non-stop action with a wealth of star vessels within beautiful constellations make SpaceForce 2 an intriguing and exiting space game.
  • True 64 bit HDR rendering if card supports it, HDR fresnel, HDR specular, HDR bloom and glow, star effect, tone mapping (adaptive exposure), HDR antialiasing, blue shift.
  • Each ship can be modified in your own creative style by upgrading: speed, target system, jammer, shield, armour, weaponry, afterburner, cargo space and weight.

System Requirements:

  • Windows 2000/XP/Vista
  • Processor: 2.0 GHz Pentium 4
  • 768 MB RAM
  • DirectX 9 Compatible Graphics Card (Radeon 9500, GeForce 5800)

HDR fresnel, HDR specular, HDR bloom and glow, star effect, tone mapping (adaptive exposure), HDR antialiasing? Omg, if it also has x2, x4, x6, and x8 antialiasing and 800×600, 1024×756, and 1600×1200 resolution support, I’m sooooo buying it!!!

On a more serious note, it looks like a low-budget game only suitable for those who don’t have anything better to play with. On the other hand, space sim lovers don’t have much choice nowadays…

I’ll give it a try at least, personally i would like a new shallow game like Freelancer but on a bigger scale.

  7. June 6th, 2007 | 00:37

I too hope it is a bit like freelancer. I really enjoyed that, but other space sims I didn’t like at all.

you should try Darkstar One, its a lot like freelancer, except you can only morph your ship instead of trading in for a new one

I hated darkstar one.. No, X³: Reunion from egosoft is the best spacesim imho. And with latest patches there is no need for a crack even anymore, they completely removed the starforce protection.

played the demo - it’s quite good. Plays quite a lot like X3 but more action oriented. Firefights are crazy! Even the capital ships move around rather fast and shit out all kinds of death at you!
I give it somewhere between 3 and 5 stars.

I love space games, I’ll have to look into this, it’s pretty much been a slow gaming year for me I am very picky about what games I get.

Tip: Download the demo first… In my eyes, this game had some serious potential, but it was a waste of time. The voice acting was horrible, the story mode starts out with a quest to kill two pirates without telling you things like for example what button to press if you want to lock on a target, how to use the afterburner and so on. Trading was extremely boring… I mean, whatever, everyone has a different taste… but freelancer was way better. Firefights were a total letdown, though percy seemed to enjoy them…

Being a Elite/Frontier, Freelancer, etc fan, these open ended games are always interesting to me. :-) I long for one that finally “gets it right”. Freelancer was on a great track, but too simple and short IMHO. Something like an expanded Freelancer II would be great. I didn’t like the idea in Darkstar that you can’t buy new ships. I liked that you could land on planets in Frontier. Ah well.. I’ll see… I’m a bit picky though so I’m not getting my hopes up just yet. :-) But it’s nice to see the genre still not completely dead.

Wow, here I am taking my flight test, and wham, who would have thought… pirates appear. Jesus guys, where’s the troll guarding the bridge? You couldn’t have thought of something actually original?

And man o man is it that hard to find people that speak English clearly and can give the thing some sincere emotion?

The children running animations, well, honestly, look like they were done by someone learning 3D Studio MAX that grabbed a canned motion file.

The texturing on those kids faces turned me off completely. I struggled with that, got over it and thought to myself, so “OK I turn off the intro, who really cares if the rest works.”

Sure, the game runs fine, no glitches, no problem at all with all settings on high. Unless of course I take into account actual visual content… because no matter how much MIP mapping, vertex shading, or how many anisotropic milkshakes you throw at a cow, it is, unavoidably just a cow.

And speaking of which… I’m not too happy with the graphics level presented. The ‘blurry radar’ I don’t like at all. One of the primary functions of a HUD is clarity and the communication of absolute situation awareness. The radar pips are blurry, unclear and having to switch between modes to distinguish between ships and buildings is silly. When different colors or icons would do. Instead of those ball-lighting blobs.

The textures on the buildings is horrendous. The bump mapping is WAY too high. It looks as if all the buildings were exposed to 3000 years of meteor bombardment. Space age modern tech stone bump mapping, sorry.

    It has it’s good points…
I found the flight model adequate its a relief to not have to use a joystick.

The sound is good, music perhaps a bit too upbeat, considering the many hours spent in this type of game… toning it down would avoid having to turn it off as I’ve had to.

Back to the bad points since they tend to remain in memory longer…
The voice acting, well, honestly, is the worst I’ve ever heard in the genre! get some professional voice actors, ones that can actually give a sentence more inflection and emotion than R2D2.

The character visuals are no more than plastered image of a pilot, totally devoid of any lip & head movements. Heck even Wing Commander had more life-infused people in the game.

When playing the game the words that comes to mind are ‘UGLY’ & ‘BLURRY’. High tech machine should present a pilot with crispness and clarity… at the moment the dash in my SUV is clearer.

First this I do when I have time is return this game.

“Tarr Chronicles: Sign of Ghosts” looks super hot, but geez ppl, has everyone forgotten the great “Independence War 2″? That was good, from the beginning to the end! It still looks good too.

Darkstar one was rubbish, ALL places just the same, 2 space stations, bunch of pirates… Boring.

X2 and X3 were super cool for modders and you got to fly all of the big ships, the game itself sucked quite hard and flying the big ships was boring(No mass-annihilation with em). Economy was quite nice, took time tho, but best of all I’ve seen. AI was also bit stupid in both games so actual combat was too easy and boring.

Freelancer was very fun, full mouse control was fun too and there were some nice mods for it too… Too short, too simple and no capital ships, bad.

Like said, for us space-sim fans theres very little to choose from. Pity…

Loved X and freelancer but currently hooked on EVE which imo has gotta be one of the best games i have played for ages. This looks pretty but cant imagine it has the same depth. I know you have to pay monthly for eve but once you start making decent ISK (money) you can exchange it ingame for extra game time so you can play for free!

All you flight sims pale in comparison to Privateer 2, let alone Privateer 1.

I mean Privateer 2 had Clive Owen, John Hurt and Christopher Walken for crying out loud!

    June 6th, 2007 | 14:15

During the very first flight, the ship randomly turns yellow and then stops flying, even though the thrusters are still on, external view shows them firing, and the repair page shows no damage.

Second attempt: I start out docked at the space station and spinning randomly while my hands are nowhere near the keyboard or mouse, then I explode.

Third attempt: Yellow ship, no movement again.

Yep, this game is a real winner. If it weren’t such utter shit it might have potential.

  30. June 6th, 2007 | 17:00

Totally agree, Lollero - Independence War 2-Edge of Chaos is still the best all round (gameplay, storyline, depth) space sim, although as it’s been 6 years since it came out, isn’t it about time someone came up with a decent replacement?

I’ve tried all the games mentioned above (Darkstar One, X3, Freelancer, etc) but still have IW2 installed on my machine for my space-fix!

You CANNOT compare EVE to this game. This is an *ACTION SPACESIM* kids, and EVE is a tactical spacesim where weapons and such is computerized.

Player run servers would be very cool.

EVE would probably not be that great without the huge population it has (Which can only be supported by expensive server equipment)Its worth the monthly cost imho.

    June 20th, 2007 | 05:01

lol the game is not bad, it has same flaws and bugs, but lots of them can be fixed with a patch/some patches (’specially the fucked up difficulity level, even in diff lvl ‘easy’ there are chances that you die in less than 25seconds if you fight 3ships). I hope they can be arsed to replace some of crappy voice files with better ones.

graphics are superb here, crystal sharp and the hdr and other sm3.0 effects are looking great.
you can mine asteroids and build your own ship upgrades, etc, etc. this game is full of nice little ideas. it’s also thrilling to fight one of these badass NPC while all of a sudden your boardcomputer girl warns you that there’ll be a meteor shower soon! if you ever flew into one in this game, you’ll know what I am talking about it. The volumetric foggy trail they have may look nice, but they bomb down your ship faster as you can throw your keyboard on the wall because you died.

it has lots of potential but it needs a patch - badly and quickly!

here some screens I took so you can see how the game looks like on a average pc, equipped with 2gig ram, a geforce 7800GS AGP and a good old P4 3,0ghz (the game runs fine on this machine, so you don’t need a highend rig to play the game at max details).
