Spaceforce Captains-SKIDROW

Group SKIDROW releases another budget game with no protection: Spaceforce Captains. A space strategy with graphic interface looking cool three years ago but certainly not now is distributed by JoWood, but it doesn’t have too much to offer. At least the size is relatively small…

Control the fate of the galaxy in the classic-styled turn-based strategy game Spaceforce Captains that invites you to explore and conquer an entirely new space.

The game features several distinct forms of game play, including gathering resources, role-playing, and strategy. The basic elements of the game involve developing a space station (space building structures t hat produce resources, captains or ships) and conquering the space with a captain leading a large fleet.

Features:

  • 3 campaigns with 24 missions
  • Includes adventure, management, action, RPG and tactic elements
  • Find your resources in asteroid mines and use them to build up your captains and their fleets.
  • There are more than 120 individual captains with unique available.
  • develop over 200 cutting-edge technologies and upgrade your fleet
  • 3D animated world with crisp graphics and storyline with side quests
  • unique features of each race
  • addictive RPG elements
  • multiplayer and map editor provided

It can be a budget game like you say Martin, but game likes Universe at War are expensive, protected and looks outdated also. Check the review in Gamespot or see some trailers and you’ll notice that.
Budget game can be the most coolest you can play over years: Söldner-X is an example (for me).

    Will give it a try.

Looks like it’s based on the Spaceforce universe (pun not intended). I never really liked Spaceforce (2): Rogue Universe (http://www.spaceforce2.com/), but the game had a lot of promise. It tried to be a lot like X(2/3) and Freelancer but didn’t really make it all the way, in my opinion. Still, it was a good idea, and maybe this (RTS-?)RPG “format” of the idea will be beter.
Would any of you guys who uninstalled it and thought it was crappy mind explaining what was so bad about it? :)

This is a strategy game and clearly we have not seen these types of games too often esp based on space. cant compare it to homm a fantasy game but i will tell you dont expect ppl who have been weened on real time to like this. me on the other hand i dont mind a strategy game. i prefere this ove real time. and who cares if its budget if theres no game lke it then im glad its budget and there not really a huge market for TURN BASED so thats why its budget if ppl were into these types more this would not be budget priced.

Ok, so I tried it out.
Like a couple of people have said it’s very much like HoMM(5). In fact, I’d go so far as to say it’s a clone. It features all the things you have in HoMM: different “captains” that you can employ, of different classes (spies, soldiers, etc), and when they gain levels you choose skills (exactly like HoMM). You start out with a starbase, which you can upgrade with modules (exactly like HoMM) such as fighter bays and such. Each unit can be upgraded once as well, to an elite version. And exactly like in HoMM you get new units in the base the first day of every new week. You collect materials (a lot of different) on the map, either in piles or by “capturing” mines that produce a certain number per day (juuust like HoMM.)
Bottomline is, it’s pretty much HoMM but in space, with ships instead of creatures, with “technologies” instead of magic, and starbases instead of castles/cities.
I didn’t find the game too great, to be honest. The FPS was kind of jerky, even though the graphics aren’t too good (except inside starbase), and the loading times were horrible (2gb ram, kinda standard I guess). Gameplay was ok, but rather repetetive. I mean, you play it for a few hours and do the same thing over and over without much variation.
Still, for HoMM-fans it’s a pretty cool idea. Sure, give it a shot, but don’t expect a 10/10 kind of game. :)

10/10 game for me. and whatever you say HOMM no comment lol. But for the rest of you that are into turn based games this is one of the few you will see. see how obsed the above poster was about HOMM well try it first and youll see no resemblence at all except for the limited view some ppl seem to have.

I guess all games are like HOMM then huh Hereos Might and magic sucked, this game is moe like GalCiv or even reach for the stars. HOMM HOMM HOMM you fking nut!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Suprise surprise . Nobody is comparing this to Space Ranger … or maybe none had ever play the game lolz . This game surely resember Space Ranger and that game is addicted as hell :P . But since this game doesnt do the Turnbase / Real time does make it …. kinda more time to click :P .

HoMM, or rather King’s Bounty in space, just cheaper.
Still it’s an ok game, good for a few hours

Wow what a crappy game…i deleted it instantly

  34. hjj
    December 24th, 2007 | 03:39

Still buggy, you transfer ships, and it transfers to a completely different captain than intended, every so often, one captain gets a completely new set of ships duplicating those belonging to a different captain. (Jowood releases are all buggy as hell)

I have to agree, very very similar to HOMM, not as much fun as I’d hoped, think will uninstall soon…

    December 24th, 2007 | 15:02

It’s a clone of HOMM, but is very good idea to put it in the space, some bugs to find and eat a lot of hardware
i realy wait for an update and maybe patch or 2

This game make me appreciate much more HOMM5, maybe I will reinstall it, and buy the extensions. The quality of this game is much lower, that is sad for sci-fi fans like myself. Seems that is hard to get quality AND space. All we get is futuristic ww2 battles in space.

Poke, poke, devs… please make better games!.

    And thanks for upload.

I was rooting for this game mainly cause I like playing budget’s that really make no sense. That sort of nostalgic ‘Why am I even playing this?’ kinda thing. I’m sure I would have had that oh so wonderful sensation if I could have played it for more than 5 minutes. It’s extremely buggy for most according to the site’s forum, myself included. Although the german version seems to work fine? Give it a shot and if you can play it longer than 300 seconds kudos! I’m not bashing this game it has promise so give it a shot but get a deck of cards and enjoy some personal Tut’s Tomb during the load times…
