XP sure had a cold start,but people embraced it simply because it offered something much more than Win98/WinME, its an old OS by todays standards but it has matured enough,has a huge driver and app base and runs stable and fast, all that an simple computer user needs..a stable platform,well supported full with software choises to get things done problem free. Vistas absolutely hideous hardware requirements for doing stuff that people do already in XP is not a common sense reason to upgrade to Vista, they see it as a candy store and nothing else. Vista has its merits, the Windows Presentation Foundation is the top of them in my opinion but for this kind of apps to emerge years will pass and Microsoft will dump Vista just as its dumped WinME and created WinXP. As for Windows 7,either it will be Vista SP2 as the rumours say or the famous jump to the brand new modular services Microsoft is planning to go, a stripped down OS with features and services purchased on a one time or monthly base. If the rumours are correct and Microsoft decides to step on on pay and play services type of personal computing along with more strict program control and policy “virtualized apps/enviroment”, use your imagination what it would bring to the PC computing afficionado..a total disaster…as someone said,the PC will have lost its raison d’etre. Luckily the opensource world spearheaded by Linux is progressing at lightning fast speeds, so it wouldn’t be long enough before users will begin getting disgusted of greedy practices and more of them will jump ship happily. I maybe speculate on these things, but take your time if you’re interested,research and think.

After a year, it STARTED to become a SOMEWHAT useable OS, but still not worth changing to, MS was forced to continue support for Win2K long after they said they would cease support, then had to extend it AGAIN because nobody was using XP.

Just because they finally got XP sorted out a couple of years later, doesn’t mean, as you suggest. “the best recipe of Windows platform, that’s XP along with SP3″. What abotu XP without a SP or even with SP1? Garbage!!!

And what in your wild imagination leads you to believe that the same issues will not be introduced when MS releases Win7?

Give Vista a year and it will supercede anything that XP has done, that’s a given, it’s already a better system it’s just that some people are having problems mostly unrealted to the features of the OS but related to functionality and speed. No different than XP had, but Vista is far better out of the box than XP was at the same stage.

Don’t believe all this ‘MS is losing the OS battle’ crap, Vista has a better adoption rate than XP did and is working with fewer bugs, security holes etc. than XP did out fo the gate.
