This may not be a new release from SEPTiC (several days ago), but I would like to post it here. “Southland Tales” is a 2006 science fiction, drama, black comedy film. The title refers to the Southland, a name used by locals to refer to Southern California and Greater Los Angeles. Set in the then near future of an alternate history, the film is a portrait of Los Angeles and a comment on the military-industrial news-tainment complex.
PLOT: Southland Tales is an ensemble piece set in the futuristic landscape of Los Angeles on July 4, 2008, as it stands on the brink of social, economic and environmental disaster. Boxer Santaros is an action star who’s stricken with amnesia. His life intertwines with Krysta Now, an adult film star developing her own reality television project, and Ronald Taverner, a Hermosa Beach police officer who holds the key to a vast conspiracy.

pretty bad film, the highlight of the movie is timberlake doing his own music video version of the killers- all these things that i’ve done with a hot chick with amazing legs.

Stopped watching after awhile (after I realized it’s not going to improve).
Waaay to much expository narration (Shouldn’t the movie itself and its characters reveal things on their own?)
A huge disappointment when I say it (and I do ADORE Donnie Darko, by the same director).
if you did NOT like this film you obviously didnt understand it. i guess its true, people fear what they dont understand. maybe you should stick to watching your kiddie shows.

This movie was terrible. And to all of those who say we didnt like it because we didnt understand it, get over yourself, you didnt understand it either. But it makes you feel special to act like you did.
I’ve seen parts of it, but I didn’t understand why anyone would buy the film…
Guess that’s why it’s here? Probably good enough, people just like to jump on the ‘this sucks’ bandwagon without seeing it.
Some will like it, some will not- that’s the nature of the business, isn’t it?

the most talented names in bollywood. time to puke!
This is a movie that people either love or hate. It’s got a pretty screwed up plot which makes it hard to follow without a second viewing or some plot summaries to help you get the bigger picture. I personally had fun with it.. but it’s definitely not for everyone.
i was not going to download this and until i watched the preview… this movie at the least looks original.

I’m not going to say you need to understand it to like it; you simply need an open mind and a sense of humor. This isn’t meant to be taken seriously at all. If you did yet still liked it, more power to you.
And honestly, reading the comics does help, but I read them afterward and it merely filled in the history & details for me.. helps you notice little side-gags and references & visual jokes in the film.
But what I say stands: You probably hated this movie because you weren’t open-minded enough about it. Go watch some David Lynch films, then come back and see how this is a comedy ode to his stuff…
My mind was open, and I could watch Sarah Michelle Gellar talk about botany for two hours, and I shut this off after 45 minutes. Two many characters, too many subplots. Donnie Darko was a carefully constructed movie and you actually wanted to see where it was going. It made you want to watch it again. The construction of this on the other hand was disjointed, and halfway through the movie I still don’t know what constituted the basic plot.
It has nothing to do with an open mind. It’s just bad storytelling. Anyone who tells you your mind wasn’t open enough to stand this film is just masking their love for what in my very humble opinion was a bad film. For those who loved this movie, stop being so defensive. And think — maybe your mind is TOO open when an incoherent film is enjoyable to you.

Chris, if you had an open mind, you’d know that there’s no need for a story or a storytelling, at least not at the top logical level of our brains.
The US is turning into police state, the oil is running out, politicians fight for power, some people revolt, the end (as we know it) is coming to an end - and most importantly - everything is just an illusion, a tale, and it doesn’t matter how many logical layers you wrap things into, no matter how much sense things make to you, your understanding will always be far from truth, because in an illusion there is no truth.
Best movie ever. Most people can’t enjoy it, so what? I can:)
