Sony: New PSP coming up

Sony have been announcing some very nice news lately at press conferences of E3.One of them is an improved version of their hand-held console PSP. It is not the long speculated PSP 2, but it do have some nice features which makes it a really nice purchase for every fan or guys who have been hesitating to buy the first version of PSP. The main updates are:

  • 33 percent lighter, 19 percent slimmer outfit
  • sped up game load times from UMD (by memory cache)
  • improved battery life
  • video output capability to allow you to play your PSP games or watch UMD movies on a big screen TV

The console will have 3 different outfits to choose from: the original color called Piano Black and the new Ice Silver and Ceramic White editions. These slimmer PSPs will be seen at stores from September the 10th, but a special Star Wars Battlefront edition of Ceramic White -colored PSP (bundled with Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron)will be at stores from November the 9th. As for the price, only the prices of Entertainment Pack (Ice Silver -colored PSP that comes with a 1GB Memory Stick, Daxter, and the Family Guy collection on UMD) and the Star Wars special edition PSP have been revealed.

Ice Silver, part of the $199.99 Entertainment Pack that comes with a 1GB Memory Stick, Daxter, and the Family Guy Frickin’ Sweet Collection on UMD. Also is a new, white Star Wars-themed PSP that will retail in October for $199.99 packed with Star Wars Battlefront: Renegade Squadron. These release plans are for North America, announcements for Japan and Europe are not set yet. The new version does’t replace older PSP from the markets and the older PSPs will still be available from stores.

    @lord…

Just you laugh, if it comes with new motherboards it will be impossible to decrypt firmware (that means no CUSTOM OE firmwares that support hacked UMD games)…

  10. July 12th, 2007 | 16:39

this is the only way they can try and stop the whole firmware modding buisness….

    and modchips..

100% new motherboard and its set to have the new firmware

so it should be a laugh watching people try and crack it :)

ohwell, my psp rules 3.03oe :)

Well it’s like “Oh the PSP sucked, so lets make one that can run the race with the DS.”

I’m really waiting for the next gen of Portables, they are gonna be amazing!!!! think about the power they are gonna handle!

Only a bunch of retards with nothing better to do when outside, no girl or friends, grope around with these idiotic toys as if they were an extension of their miniscule cocks. These guys just get these things so they can keep masturbating outside and not inside where their mothers can catch them.

So basically what you’re saying ‘Handhelds are for wankers’ is that you can’t afford a PSP.

    Poor kid

Too bad they didn’t fix what NEEDED fixing, i.e. BOTH pads. I haven’t touched my two PSP’s in months due to the sucky controls.

Oh, and “Handhelds are for wankers”, I never play my PSP outside, it’s nice to sit in the sofa and play when the wife watches the telly. And also because of some kewl games not on the PS2 – like LocoRoco, Exit +++

    July 12th, 2007 | 22:30

‘Truth’ is telling it how it is. When grown men beat off about a kids toy, they are little more than pathetic jerkoffs. I had a Donkey Kong LCD game back in the early 80’s when 8 years old, but I grew out of it. Seems many never do!

  26. July 12th, 2007 | 22:32

bah consoles waste of time and effort IMO can you log in to rlslog read the latest news and post comments using a handheld?…can you log in to NTI find a torrent and download it through your handheld and once it is completed can you extract it with your handheld….and last can you click play/install/copy /paste or do any of the things you turn on your reliable old p.c for???????……
    so last question……why bother?

  27. July 13th, 2007 | 01:04

Seems pretty nice. I like the silver one.

slay3r, the PSP can do everything you said except the installing part since a computer is invented to use softswares on. posted with a PSP.

  29. Qred
    July 13th, 2007 | 22:16

Slay3r, yup, Sam is right :)

Some of you seem to be unaware that PSP has video (and i dont mean UMD)and mp3 playback so it indeed can do alot more than run donkey Kong :D

So far i’ve used PSP just for that, I havent even tried any games yet as they all seem to suck, atleast their screenshots do…

But when it comes to nextgen handhelds, I’m little bit worried about battery life and how quickly and how much does the console heat up…

Qred nailed it. There’s more to the PSP than just games.
    Some people here have jobs.
Some of those jobs make more than entry-level wages.
Some of those jobs require travel.
Now try to imagine sitting on an aeroplane two or more times a week for two to four hours (don’t forget all the waiting time to actually get ON the plane) and the excitement of watching the film on the aeroplane — again and again and again (the SAME film).

The PSP works perfect for me. Waste some time playing a game or two, watch a film or TV programme or listen to music.
It’s currently the easiest handheld to do that with and the screen is far larger than that of an iPod.

oh, almost forgot: anyone who thinks that the PSP-slim won’t be made homebrew-friendly underestimates the community.
