Sony Ericsson W580: slim & fast

Sony Ericsson announced its first high-speed phone for the US—the Z750 and the W580, a Walkman phone with a pedometer and built-in games. The smooth, rounded Z750 flip phone will become Sony Ericsson’s flagship model in the US. It uses tri-band HSDPA and quad-band EDGE, so it can access high-speed networks both in the US and abroad. It will come in gray and pink, with a mirror-like finish and an “invisible” front display that lights up with caller ID information.

There’s a 2-megapixel camera on the outside of the flip, and a 2.2-inch, 320×240 screen inside. Music plays from the built-in FM radio or MP3 player that uses Memory Stick M2 media and can play back through wired or Bluetooth headphones. Bluetooth 2.0 + EDR will make for fast wireless transfers to and from PCs, and one of the first phones that can keep up with HSDPA speeds when in wireless Bluetooth laptop modem mode.

Meanwhile, the W580 puts Sony Ericsson’s Walkman brand on a slim, sliding phone. It’s the same orange-and-white color scheme as the popular W800 Walkman phone , but there’s also a gray version. Disco lights around the edge of the phone that pulse along with your music give it a youthful advantage.Like the W800, the W580 has an MP3 player that plays all the popular unprotected music formats from a Memory Stick M2 card.

Other impressive features include a 2-inch, 320×240 screen, real HTML Web browser, pedometer, FM radio, and built-in high-end games including The Sims 2. All this comes in a package only .56 inches thick and weighing 3.35 ounces. The W580 is a quad-band EDGE phone, so it will work on Cingular or T-Mobile networks. I don’t know why, but I like almost all phones from Sony Ericsson for some reason - I started with their T65 few years ago and go with them up till now. And after checking these new models, I don’t see a reason to change the brand…

    @James

not even close to same… 6630 is BB5 the newest nokia platform
    and 6670 is DCT4 WD2…

this SE phone is based on db2020 cpu that can’t be faster then a stupid k800 … so, all the newer an upcoming SE phones are same with only a minor cosmetic change ;)

I’ve used Alcatel, Samsung, Nokia, Siemens, Sony Ericsson and again Samsung. (I’ve used for a week a Motorola)

And for what i can tell Samsung and Sony Ericsson are my favorites, and, for me, by far the best.

Nokia i really don’t like, they all seem the same ( Good phones but the same)

Motorola has the best looking phones, but the worst (i work at a cellphone provider in my country (Portugal) and complains about Motorola keep coming )

Never liked Nokia, and as new models come in the market, like the N series, i have the impression that they get BIGGER - correct me if i am wrong. I mean, you dont have to make a mobile phone this big to have a 3.2 mp camera!!!

That is the reason that i go with Sony-Ericsson. Products of Ericsson where always innovative, and since the merging with sony, they have produced amazing mobiles.

With my K800, i also stopped carrying my digital camera. It can take the best photos from all the mobile phones out there, with no doubt. I would change it only with another Sony-Ericsson mobile.

I don’t like the Nokia phones too. Just Sony (currently) and Samsung phones for me.

My phone makes phone calls.. are these type of phones necessary to compensate for something?

Why post “new” phones here which ain’t really new, just rehashes of the old ones? Only difference to the previous SE phones is the HSDPA in the Z750. W580 is pretty much the w850. My question is why are these phones posted in here? They don’t bring anything new to the cellphones.

Watch out for the new Nokia N95.
Beats every phone in the market.

OFF:Just because we’re from Finland Timo doesn’t mean it’s right for us to say what is new or not in other countries’ mobilephone markets. =) mmkay?

timo: The new about this phone is that it’s slim…

I like the design on the SE phones… Alot better than Nokia…

Some of my friends have the Nokia N90, and they all complain about it, one of them even bought the SE k800i instead :-)

    I have a k800i and i couldn’t agree more with Gkats2002

    Kapper’s out…

Nokia phones mostly blow…. Nokia 6630?? LOL that ugly piece of crap? gotta be kidding me. The ony good Nokia phones are the camcorder versions and their biggest problem is they are too big.

Sony all the way! Man I want this phone.
