Sony delays PS3 launch till March
It looks that all European console freaks will have to wait a bit more for their redemption. SONY has left the Christmas video-game console market wide open for rivals Microsoft and Nintendo, announcing that its PlayStation 3 unit will again be delayed and not hit the shops until March. Sony will stick to a November 17 launch in Japan and the US Sony’s largest single-country markets, and two countries that use the NTSC television standard. But for countries on the PAL standard including Australia, New Zealand, Europe and Russia, the PS3 has been held over until March. The delay means that the PS3 will give its chief rival, Microsoft’s Xbox 360, a year’s head-start in the Australian market.
Nintendo has also confirmed its much cheaper Wii unit will also appear locally before Christmas. Sony blamed the new delay on supply problems with the blue laser that will be used in the DVD drive of the units, which would affect “the timely procurement of key components to be utilised in PlayStation 3″, the company said. So now it’s all opened, the great next-gen console battle will be pretty interesting…

I stil lget a kick out of Nintendo’s Wii. It’s cheap, and rightly so. It’s so painfully underpowered in comparison to the other 2 “next gen” consoles.
I’m making this statement now.
Anyone that buys a Wii will end up buying one of the other consoles anyways. I don’t give a rats ass how innovative it is, or how kewl the controller interaction is.
Ps3 is doing it aswell, and it’s controller uses a gyroscope for the axis detection, unlike the gay infrared BS with the Wii.
Unless they’ve changed that.
You can’t sell me a N64 because it has a funky new controller and will play tons of roms. Put it beside a 360 or ps3 and it’s laughable.
Put it beside a moderately priced gaming pc, and it’s INSANITY.
I’ve got a funny feeling that Sony is gonna flop at first with the ps3, because of the delays and such. But once it’s out, and people see the line up of games, the Wii will be fine for toddlers.

Sony are concentrating a lot on north America planning to have a million units there by the end of the year(personally i don’t see them keeping to that)
They need to get some good press as this was on just bout every news program yesterday and i can see a lot of people turning to the xbox 360 at Christmas.
When PS2 came out I stopped playing PSone. When I got my 360 I stopped playing my Ps2 or Xbox1.
I still play games on my Gamecube, N64 and even dug my Snes out last month to play Zelda.
Nintendo make the best games regardless of power.

Yeah I’ve noticed the phishy fanboyness as well. First of all it’s not a repackaged N64, it’s gfx are improved upon the Gamecube even. Secondly innovation is to be welcomed, thirdly graphics don’t make a game they enhance it, but graphics can’t help shit gameplay at all. As for comparing the PS3 controller method to the Wii, all I can say is WTF!?
The Xbox 360 is a great console, the Wii will also be excellent. Sony can’t even make enough PS3s.

I know this isnt goin to make much of a difference to the end result Sony will still sell a truckload of ps3’s no matter what.The interesting thing is how much “space” have they given Microsoft and Nintendo? and How many people will “Cross Over” and buy a 360 or Wii or even both?.
oh, i forgot to mention, Wii has been going on endlessly about their motion controller and all that.
Well, like i said, sony is doing that aswell, how is that not alike? No ones saying they are the same, personally i like a controller for a console, not a god damn vcr remote.

You have to put underpowered in relative terms. The Wii has enough power to achieve what it needs. As others have rightly said graphics don’t make a game. The PS3 and Xbox 360 are more of the same, the way humans interface with gaming is the same old same old. I really respect what Ninty are trying to achieve with the Wii.
What strikes me is Phishy’s total and utter ingorance with regard to the Wii controller and comparing it to the PS3 controller. I say check out youtube for some Wii videos and come back when you’ve done your research! You made the comparison phishy otherwise where’s your argument. You simply don’t like the Wii because you have made assumptions about and they are evidently wrong in face of the evidence.
Threads like this are annoying, you are all debating consoles which don’t exist yet. I don’t see the logic in slating a PS3 and Wii, the only thing they have in common are they are consoles. The same thing happens with Apple Macs and PCs, you know what it is possible to actually like something from another brand and not feel the need to slate it. It’s akin to hardware racism. Differences can be a positive thing and I definitely think the Wii is a positive move for gaming.
