Equal Canadian dollar to American dollar, price drop, better library, might be time to look into getting a PS3. Blueray seems to be a loser, might have to consider that.

now having had this in the uk recently, i know a touch more about the details. just to clear up the emulation issues –
60gb (US + JP Only) full emulation
80gb – software emulation – think xbox 360 type updates
40gb none. at all.

in addition, the 40gb version loses 2 of the 4 usb ports, in addition to the multiple card reader function of the bigger model. possibly other things like that, but I really can’t think of anything else. oh, and a chrome strip is missing, or somesuch.

We will only have the 40gb in the uk. Import time, especially with that currency coversion!

actually i did! i bought it and played halo2 on it for almost 6 months exclusively. ive got over 20 games now, including the POS called halo3, and still occasionally go back to my original xbox games. it was a major decision breaker to buy an xbox premium for that very reason. IMO i would stay away from the new 40gb ps3

Backwards compat was always one of Playstations biggest selling points over Nintendo and Microsoft. Cutting it really is asking for trouble.

I don’t see what the big fuss is all about.

If you want to play only PS3 games (and there are some people for this market) just buy the 40 gig version and save 100 $.

If you wanted to play PS2 games you should have got the 60 gig version when it was available (like i did)

If you want to play PS2 games (or want bigger storage) but don’t mind being pissed off if some of them don’t work due to software emulation compatibility issues.

@ erdo save ur money and be patient, gta IV experience on pc will be da best, i mean heck look at san andreas and vice city modding, its just a matter of months or a year at most for it to come on pc

Wii one or two nice games but gfx arnt too great
x360 best lineup of games but high failure rate of consoles
ps3 no games, no bc, way too expensive

if only i could get a 360 that doesnt fail after 6months i might be tempted otherwise im skipping this generation

When you say things can only get better, you’re also saying they can’t get any worse.

With that in mind, I know if I had a PS3 I’d want it to be able to play PS2 games, and I think it’s fair to say a lot of others would want the same.

Why are people dissing backwards compatibility in here when the PS3 has an absymal lineup thus far? Exactly what are PS3 gamers supposed to play on their new systems while waiting for something good to come along?

Backwards compatibility is a great, great thing. I have an old copy of Hunter the Reckoning on Xbox that I bought ages ago, hoping someday my 360 will be able to play it, but I reckon I’d better not hold my breath.

Oh yeah… @32. You poms should quit moaning, cause in good old rip-off Australia we’re looking at about the equivalent of $850 for the same damn thing!
