"if you want better graphics and games buy a ps3"
The graphic difference is minimal and the 360 has the best and most games.

Xbox 360 is a gaming console, it doesnt give a sh1t about Blu-ray.

Well... if you want to get technical, the PS3 CAN potentially find a cure for cancer.... Just saying.

So M$ have never put out a new update which has caused a large number of 360's to break? Better check your history...

Firmware 2.40 installed perfectly for me. I've been getting trophies in Super Stardust HD and using the XMB in games.

My guess is that the problem is to do with bad sectors on the HDD, but we will know for sure soon.

No suprise there @ Timothy632.
As I said, a game gets put out for PS3 and often requires a patch. Now it appears to be the same for the OS too.

Yeah BT Vision, that's the one. There's still no word of it and it's due out this summer. It's also streaming only as the 360 is not capable of handling live tv and there is no way to record either:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7178661.stm

From that golden age link, here is what the PSN doesn't offer. This is what you are paying for (with a Gold subscription) with regards to receiving exclusive content over and above the free PSN:

* Give player feedback to rate your teammates and opponents on their sportsmanship, abilities, and conduct to influence matchmaking.

That's it. Everything else is offered by the PSN, for free. Money well spent if you ask me.

Gaming on XBL isn't that much bigger than the PSN. In January 2008, M$ said that they had 10 million Gold subscribers. Last month, Sony said that they had 9.8 million PSN accounts. Obviously everyone won't be playing at the same time but we are only talking about a 1 or 2 million user difference now, but there are supposed to be over 7 million more purchased 360's than PS3's.

Bad Company on XBL is great, over on the 360 we are also getting DLC (Conquest multiplayer mode & maps) - im unsure if this is coming to PSN.

The main advantage of any title (supporting multiplayer) on the 360 in my opinion is that it simply plays better.

R1) They have less network issues and none of the games require a patch to play online from day 1.
R2) Bigger network, more people to play with.

The gold subscription is cheap and the XBL services is up pretty much 99% of the time without issues for every single game.
I have my 360 modded to play copies so as Mike posted in post 75 im saving a hell of allot of money.

Microsft skipped one 360 update a few months back & its now rumored that the next update will overhaul the current dashboard with over 100 changes/new features.

@99 Joshy

The "Moan all you want" wasn't directed at you, just the various people who bash the PSN when it isn't as bad as many make it out to be. Can anyone tell me of their experiences of Bad Company on XBL? I guarantee you that it's not as good as the experience to be had on the PSN.

The question people are starting to ask is what does the Gold subscription offer over and above what the PSN offers for free? Eurogamer ran an article last month and they concluded that it was MSN Messenger for cross game text chat, cross game voice chat and a universal friends list. Now 2.40 is out, 2 of those 3 things are gone so now all you're paying for (over what the PSN has to offer) is cross game voice chat and that will be coming to the PSN soon for free. The PlayStation Store will also have HD film downloads but you will be able to buy (as well as rent), another thing which the XBLM doesn't offer.

IPTV was supposed to be out this summer (now) for the 360, but there is absolutely no word of it. PlayTV however is coming this year for the PS3. M$ were also supposed to be planning some kind of TV service with BT in the UK but that hasn't happened either.

The graphics rely on how good the developers are on coding for the PS3. Criterion EA seamed to have mastered this compared to other parts of EA, and Valve... well, they have already admitted that they can't code for the PS3 (stated in an interview with C&VG), which is why many of the Valve titles will come to the PS3 after the 360 and PC versions are out. Criterion should take over all of EA's upcoming games or give them pointers.

You will see some major advancements in exclusive titles (Killzone 2, FFXIII, Little Big Planet, God Of War 3) and not so many (graphically) in multiplatform ones because developers want to keep things similar across the board wherever possible. As I mentioned before, the PS3 version of Ghostbusters will include features in the gameplay that the 360 cannot do (interview with a developer on QJ.net). Whether or not the game will be any good is another matter.

As I said, it states that it supports MPEG-4 Part 2 which is not the same as being a DivX Certified product which the PS3 is as it's officially supported by DivX Inc. Yes the 360 supports a large amount of available DivX/Xvid content but it won't play them all. This was stated by Bruce Lidl at DivX Inc. Streaming doesn't mean anything as the PC decodes the file. I DivX films to my PSP but that doesn't make it DivX compatible.

The PS3 (just like the PS2) has been marketed as more than a games machine. This marketing strategy killed off HD DVD. Sony want to reach more than just gamers and 127+million sales of the PS2 which still outsells the 360 in some territories say that they got it right once and could do it again.

People say that Sony forced Blu-ray on to everyone but they had the right idea putting everything in one package, without having to buy everything else because of choice.

How many million 360's have been sold which cannot be used for online gaming because they don't have a HDD? The only saving grace and the reason why so many 360's have been sold is because it's cheap enough to buy again if and when it gets the RROD. I read it all the time on forums. If it gets the RROD, send tit to M$ to fix, sell it on eBay and get a new one. Apparently the RROD is acceptable because it costs next to nothing to replace. Sure the 360 has done a lot for gamers BUT it's hardly a well designed console. 3 years on and they are still 2 revisions away (next revision is coming out in 2009, not 2008) from where they want the console to be to eradicate the RROD.

@81 Joshy

I believe M$ actually said that they would support the 360 for 7 years. They didn't say that they wouldn't release a new console in the mean time. This is new ground for M$ so who knows if they can do it. The PS1 was supported for just over 8 years and the PS2 is about to start it's 8th year, will games still planned for 2009. M$ dropped for the Xbox for strategic reasons and they could very well do the same with the 360, if it becomes financially viable.

Moan all you want about how you would rather pay for XBL than live with the PSN. We still get pretty much everything you have but for free, unless you really think that paying for MSN messenger is worth it, because that's just about the only difference between what both services have to offer now. I'm looking for to Life coming out for the PS3. It will be an amazing (non gaming - shock horror) feature.

For those with a 40GB PS3 wanting backwards compatibility, it's coming... soon... and the UK/EU will see evidence of this before America and Japan (but keep it quiet).

Moan all you want about how you would rather pay for XBL than live with the PSN. We still get pretty much everything you have but for free, unless you really think that paying for MSN messenger is worth it, because that’s just about the only difference between what both services have to offer now. I’m looking for to Life coming out for the PS3. It will be an amazing (non gaming – shock horror) feature.

For those with a 40GB PS3 wanting backwards compatibility, it’s coming… soon… and the UK/EU will see evidence of this before America and Japan (but keep it quiet).
