Interestingly enough, version 2.9.1.6 is only available as a private beta. Slysoft haven’t officially released it for public consumption, let alone a stable build. Hmmm….

Hello All…Firtly i would like to thank the guys at RLSlog for the work that that have done so far. Have been viewing this site for a long time now and love the work your editors have done…the forum looks like a great portal for more detailed release help…and the IRC is always good for a laugh.

    Now to the comments…

I have been looking at different ripping software in the past, for different reasons:

    #1 DVD Ripper
    Divx Converter
    FabDVD
    CloneDVD
    AVIrecomp.
    FairUse 2

(I am not a pro…so if I say something stupid i do appologize) All of the above applications are pretty much the same in my mind with the exception of AVIrecomp which i pretty much only use to embed subtitles onto avi’s with little or no loss of quailty (In order to play on stand-alone player)

They all pretty much allow for custom compression settings, rip from source or folder, etc, but what i find with most of them is that they all use a lot of processing power (cant do anything else) and the quality has always been a little disappointing mainly because I do not know what setting to use for the length / resolution. Because of this they size of the vid created never ends up at what i set.

I recently found this guide and application that was simple and created the best rips so far..at whatever size i set…for me at least:

    Step-by-step guide: http://www.dvd-guides.com/content/view/34/59/

FairUse 2: Never heard of it before and the complete version seems to be free on their site now. Have backed-up 4 movies so far and not only am i able to work on my machine during the rip but they are all crisp at 700mb. The attached guide really helps you walk-throught the app…Not sure if this is old news but it new to me ;O)

    http://www.fairusewizard.com/lang_en/fairuse_wizard_dvd_divx_xvid_backup_tool_light_edition.html

Usually dont see free apps on your site but thought that this was too good not to post…hope that this helps someone.

This program is by far one of the best. It transcodes very very fast and makes high quality copies. I have used just about everything and it doesn’t get better than this.

@vanman- thanks for the heads up, I think I’ll wait for a more stable release before I upgrade.

    @ Rasta321,
Fairuse looks interesting, but am I the only one that is a little nervous about running a file called FU-setup.exe? Curious if anyone else has tried it.

Hard to beat the CloneDVD and AnyDVD combo though. Been using them for years.

    Thanks all!

wtf?when you open the program,it says you’re trial has expired, and takes you directly to their homepage to buy a key.You can’t open the program to register with the keygen.Gonna re-install 2.9.1.5(also from D.V.T-works great)

I use FairUse 2. it’s excellent. I downloaded the free version, no limitations at all, ripped an Xvid with AC3 sound, you get to pick the resolution, the bitrate, everything, you can also just pick a preset if you want to keep it simple, great program, fast, allows you to use your PC while it’s running.

I ran the keygen then clicked register and then started clone dvd. All good so far. Put in a dvd to try and it tells me that the dvd is copy protected (duh) and I can’t do that…

    Am I missing something?

DVDShrink 3.2 is better than CloneDVD, though I find CloneDVD slightly faster during encoding.

As far as I can remember the types who make CloneDVD always call their releases betas. They were once on the scene and they decided to use scene rules (don’t release beta cracks cause that’s a nuke) against the scene to protect their brand.
I still prefer the other prog DVD cloner which (I think) is still being released. Clone DVD and DVD cloner are no relation to each other and unlike CloneDVD, DVD cloner doesn’t require a third party decoder such as anyDVD or DVD43. I will try the FairUse prog though as long as it does have a built in decoder because the people at dvd guides do provide the best advice.

Anyway here is the latest version of DVD Cloner:
