Sleuth LIMITED NFOFIX DVDScr XViD-BaLD

BaLD has oddly forgot to release this with an nfo file included, which is the reason for the ‘NFOFIX’ addition. Anyway, this is a boring looking new film starring old-timer Michael Caine, who’s basically in every movie, and Jude Law. Quality of the DVDSCR is very good in regard to video and audio but is hindered by annoying property messages and b&w scenes.

Synopsis: In 1972, Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine starred in the screen adaptation of SLEUTH, based on Anthony Shaffer’s Tony Award-winning play and directed by Joseph L. Mankiewicz. Olivier played Andrew Wyke, a droll old writer whose wife is having an affair with the young, ambitious Milo Tindle, played by Caine. Thirty-five years later, Caine is starring as Wyke in an updated version of SLEUTH, completely rewritten by Nobel Prizewinner Harold Pinter and directed by multiple Oscar nominee Kenneth Branagh. Jude Law, who played the Michael Caine role in the 2004 remake of ALFIE, now takes over as Tindle, a hairdresser-actor who has shown up at Wyke’s estate to demand that Wyke divorce his wife so Tindle can marry her. But the extremely successful and wealthy Wyke is not about to give up his wife without a very determined and well-calculated battle of wits.

“Anyway, this is a boring looking new film starring old-timer Michael Caine, who’s basically in every movie, and Jude Law.”

jesus christ, since when have they started letting ignorant 8 year old boys write for RlsLog? A movie starring Michael Caine, Jude Law, written by Harold Pinter directed by Kenneth Branagh…and you call this boring? Bleez, realize that I Am Legend isn’t cinematic art, stop jacking off to pictures of Pamela Anderson and keep your opinions out of your posts.

I’m sorry to be so harsh, but I’m a huge fan of RLSLOG and when one of your staff makes the site look like an ignorant warez message board it kinda pisses me off.

“Michael Caine, who’s basically in every movie”

He’d be thrilled to hear you say that! lol! Or as he said after making “Jaws: The Revenge” and admitting that he only did it for the money, “You might hate the film, but you’d love the new house!”

This one probably paid for a showroom where he can stand his two Oscars, 25 other awards and reminisce about being nominated another 36 times in his more than 50 year career.

There’s a reason he’s in just about every movie good or bad. He’s one of the most respected actors in the world – not to mention being a pleasant fellow and fun to be around! You children need to think about why things happen, not just criticize the fact that they do.

@5 I agree with you 100%. While I value all the hard work you guys do here at rlslog, my only complaint has been the staff posting scene releases should keep their comments limited to info about the release and its quality. Not go all Siskel and Ebert on us with their opinions on how a movie is (or “looks”) One’s taste is is objective.

Again, thanks for the hard work you guys put into my favorite release info site! =)

    @Bleez
I have to say you are pretty off base with your initial comments and the other guys are right how they read it is how you wrote and this is the first time of using this site where I have seen something that I felt I should comment on.

This is a great site but I like it because it gives a nice bit of info little bias except where it is obvious. But if you are commenting on an actor like Michael Caine who yes he has done his fair share of rubbishy movies he was always good in them and he has done more than his fair share of really excellent movies one look at his CV is evidence of that. You might feel different but that is what comments are for not something you should say on the front page, and the reviews for this film ive heard are pretty positive and its IMDB rating is pretty respectable.

I am offended in this comment by the staff member who said and I quote, “Anyway, this is a boring looking new film starring old-timer Michael Caine, who’s basically in every movie, and Jude Law.” First off, Michael Cain is one of the greatest actors who have ever graced the screen! Now I don’t know if his comment is negative or if it is a positive comment. Please clarify, and if it is a negative statement I think it should be retracted! I am a huge fan of this site and if it isn’t retracted maybe I will remove the bumper sticker off my car window that advertises rlslog! Point being Michael Cain isn’t just an old timer actor who is in every movie. He is an Actor who is wanted by all the old timer producers who understand a person like Michael Cain could produce millions by his talent!
    That is all for now!

I never said he was my favorite actor. I’m sorry for my first post being so angry, I’m just mad because commenting that a movie based on an excellent play starring two very good actors ‘looks boring’. It just makes the staff at RLSLOG sound pretty ignorant. Sorry for my first post that attacked you so harshly.

  40. Film fan
    January 26th, 2008 | 23:53

I agree with the commenters here. I’d much rather the staff limit their comments to info about the release and its quality, not give useless idiotic opinions about the film’s content. I saw the new Sleuth — it is a terrific challenging film with two masterful performances and sharp stinging dialog from Pinter. That’s just my opinion and other people have theirs, but I don’t come to this site to hear from some 14 year old about which film is boring or interesting.

  41. placenta
    January 26th, 2008 | 23:54

also…Sleuth, despite having two amazing actors and a great director was overall pretty mediocre. So I guess bleez was right lol.

  42. Chris
    January 26th, 2008 | 23:55

He says the film is boring…

and it stars old-timer Michael Cain.. Who is basically in every film… He doesn’t say anything negative about the actor, except for the film he is in is boring…

He never mentions the quality of Michael Cain’s work in the film, or that his performance was boring… He was speaking on the film… I don’t see anything negative with how he spoke of Michael Cain..

He is an old timer, referring to his age.. If you think he is insulting Michael Cain for being an old timer, i see it as he has been around for a long time.. He is a fairly old man compared to say Jude Law… So if someone is old and has been around for a long time, you can’t call them an old timer without it being an insult?

He never mentions whether “he is basically in every movie” is in a negative or positive, or just stating that Michael Cain is in a lot of films, so most will know who he is.

Its what you are reading into it that is making it insulting not his original statement..

So He is calling the film boring.. Not Michael Cain.. He didn’t insult Michael Cain in anyway, except to say that he is old, and is in a lot of movies.. His only opinion being very short in one word.. BORING.. Which was talking on the film.. and he even said “boring looking” Which is even less of an opinion than calling it just boring. Since the rest of you are so free with saying he was implying things, saying Boring looking just implies that he won’t watch it as it looks boring, but cannot comment on the actual film itself.. Just to him it looks boring..

I love Michael Cain, and will watch anything with him in it… But I honestly don’t see how he insulted Michael Cain in any way.. He is old, and has been around a long time and has been in lots of movies… Not really an insult on a great actor..

  43. Chris

  47. January 27th, 2008 | 00:02

    @ 38

7.3 is not considered awesome, and I didn’t like that movie either.

Either way, my notion is based on certain reviews by critics who’s opinion I respect and my personal frustration at watching Michael Caine, who has indeed done some very good films, take up just about any role. Seeing him in so many movies makes him, in my eyes, unreliable as an actor.

Please enough of this ‘attack’, you’re blowing it out of proportions. Next time, I’ll try not to judge by general consensus and whatnot. Okie? have a nice day :)

#49, IN RESPONSE TO SHINY AND YOUR COMMENT OF “THIS IS YOUR SITE AND YOU WRITE WHAT YOU WANT”, FIRST OFF, REMEMBER WITHOUT US VIEWERS,DEDICATED VISITORS AND PEOPLE WHO MAKE THIS THEIR HOMEPAGE YOU WOULD LOSE TRAFFIC AND HAVE LESS THAN NOTHING! I REALLY DON’T KNOW HOW YOU CALL THIS “YOUR WEBSITE”. IT MORE WELCOMELY SHOULD BE ALL THE VIEWERS SITE! i DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU BUT i RUN A COMPANY WITH OVER 750 SALES PEOPLE AND SERVICE CUSTOMERS LIKE WHITEHALL JEWELERS AND FIRESTONES AND MANY MANY CORPORATE CHAINS AND SMALL BUSINESSES the product I created for users is in over 25,000 businesses AND i NEVER CONDEMN MY CUSTOMERS BY SAYING “IT IS MY COMPANY my PRODUCT, AND i HAVE NO NEED TO DEFEND OUR ACTIONS”. I DON’T STRIKE THE HAND or BELITTLE PEOPLE WHO FEED MY FAMILY AND I. THEN AGAIN, MAYBE THIS IS THE PHILOSOPHY OF GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE IN THE STATES AND OTHER COUNTRIES WHO APPRECIATE THEIR “LOYAL CUSTOMERS”! i LOVE RLS AND HAVE EFFECTUALLY PROMOTED RLS AND TODAY, JUST MAYBE, THE 2 STAFF WOKE UP ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE BED AND JUST ATE TOO MANY CHEETOS AND WATCHED BLUTO BEATING UP POPEYE? mAYBE A PUBLIC APOLOGY IS GOOD TO THE VIEWERS? AFTER ALL “YOUR SITE RLSLOG” HOLDS NO TORRENTS OR DATA OF SUCH IT IS JUST A REVIEW SITE TO THE MAIN LINKS. REMEMBER, BANNER ADS AND COMMISSIONS PAID BY OUR TRAFFIC AND CLICK LINKS! hERE ENDETH THE LESSON!

Sleuth is a “mind game” movie (based on the Tony Award winning Broadway play) not really an action film. It’s a battle of wits with clever, intellectually thrilling repartee. If watching actors verbally spar for almost 90 minutes isn’t your cup of tea, you need to move on.

What jackass says leave the reviews to the professionals? I mean seriously.. Bleez is NO different then Ebert&Roeper were… its their opinion of the movie, and Bleez is entitled to say what he wants… it is a free country and I start reading comments of some movies to find out if the movie is any good before i waste my time dlding it and burning it… so please Shiny, Bleez, Martin & the rest of the crew.. give us a heads up on what we might waste bandwidth, time and dvd’s on, most of us actually want to know whether the movie blows before wasting time…

I’d much rather know the movie sucked then go through all that hassle to find out it did…
“…leave the reviews to the professionals…” what a joke of a comment, seriously and their “opinion” is much more credible WHY again? Roeper writes for the Chicago Sun Times
Lets not forget about every professionals’ opinion of the movie Babel that won a bazillion awards… that movie was horrible, and boring like Michael Clayton.
*and Roeper “the professional” gave Lord of the Rings a big thumbs down.

Now im pretty sure that movie was umm, how do you say it?

ahhh yes A HUGE HUUUUGE SUCCESS!!!!

    …. Professionals… LOL hilarious

Thanks again Bleez for your heads up so i didn’t waste a half hour downloading, then another 30 mins converting it.

@79 Presumably these critics actually watch the movies before they comment, though

    @ stocksrmythng:

indeed, who needs people who actually watch the movie when you have people with the gift to judge a movie by its cover.

oh yes, success, what a wonderfull way to see how good a movie is. XXX, star wars 1… /sarcasm off

I watched the original one in my teens… one of the few movies that ever made an impression on me. Hope they didn´t ruin it.

keep up the great work and to all you suffering whiners, if you don’t like their posts, go to the million other sites.

Reckon everyone has a right to voice an opinion. The trick to remember is to tread very carefully when dealing with the likes of a living legend such as Michael Caine.

btw, I don’t think Bleez was trying to disrespect the incomparable Michael Caine. Just an opinion that he is in every film lately. We all know Mr. Caine is one of the Greatest actors ever. I too have noticed him in a few films lately. Good for him. We are all lucky to have him grace the silver (LCD) screens.

    Peace, Love and Movies…

id just like to point out that this film is getting awful reviews over here in the UK – professional film critics, from grown up highbrow papers like the guardian, observer and independent have SLAMMED it for being a sad display of how badly downhill Branagh has gone. it also points out that it compares badly with the original, and that attempts to modernise the story are cliched and unnecessary.

so everyone whos calling Bleez names, maybe you want to direct your attacks at those newspapers, since – on balance – i think Bleez’s suggestion that this film is “boring looking” is actually quite a positive write-up.

i just want to add that i personally think rlslog is a great site, and i appreciate everything the contributors put up, good or bad, because its a good ‘heads up’ on new releases and a great place for RS links. if i dont know enough about a film, ill read what the post says, then maybe scan the comments and then if im still not sold but interested enough, ill check out other reviews… no opinion on films/whatever is gospel truth, so ripping into Bleez is harsh, unnecessary and downright ungrateful…

shiny is right to say its their site and they can write what they want. i can appreciate that not every post on here is about some excellent new thing that EVERYONE MUST SEE, and likewise, some staff have opinions wildly different to my own, but at the end of the day, thats pretty normal. the blockbuster site is full of glowing reviews of films i think are awful, so taking offense to one persons lukewarm but politely worded opinion is insane.

i really cant believe people have kicked off about this so much. i even watched the film for myself to see if it was actually amazing, which wouldve added a little merit to all the outrage. but no, its boring. it works better on the stage, or the original film version.

seriously, i love rlslog, but the comments section is just as bad as any popular blog – theres some people who appreciate the work being done, and respond respectfully and constructively. others seem to consider it *their blog* and make it their business to attack anyone, staff, noob or regular, who happens to write something they dont like. STFU and grow up, people. rlslog is written for everyone by a small group of hard working individuals, and if you dont like something, either keep it to yourself, or if you must express your irritation (and at the end of the day, its just irritation, noones been hurt by Bleez’s comments) do so with some modicum of respect.

or i shall curse you all.

    :)
