Sleeping Beauty is a 1959 animated feature produced by Walt Disney and originally released to theaters on January 29, 1959, by Buena Vista Distribution. The sixteenth animated feature in the Disney animated features canon, it was the last animated feature produced by Walt Disney to be based upon a fairy tale (after his death, the studio returned to the genre with 1989’s The Little Mermaid). In addition, Sleeping Beauty was the first animated feature to be shot in Super Technirama 70, one of many large-format widescreen processes. Only one more animated film, The Black Cauldron, was ever shot in Super Technirama 70.

Adaptation of the fairy tale of the same name. Princess Aurora is cursed by the evil witch Maleficent – who declares that before Aurora reaches her 16th birthday she will die by a poisoned spinning-wheel. To try to prevent this, the king places her into hiding, in the care of three goodnatured – but not too bright – fairies.

    I have seen the new edition of Disney’s Sleeping Beauty and I must say that the transfer is nothing less than fantastic!

    For those who have the 2003 DVD edition, this is a nessessary upgrade, and will make the 2003 DVD edition cry!

    This edition of Sleeping Beauty and the restored version of How The West Was Won are starting to make me cave in to get a Blu-Ray player.

    Get Sleeping Beauty, you will be satisfied.

    B.T.W. this past Tuesday when Sleeping Beauty came out, I rang out a customer who got the Blu-Ray version and a Age Prompt came up. Funniest thing I saw all week.

    Attention, naysayers: fu­ck off!

    I’ve been waiting for Disney Classics to be released in HD for years, literally. Finally they’re starting to appear. These cartoons are a thousand times better than the utter garbage they produce today, and if you can’t appreciate that, then you need some perspective.

    Ahh, I’ve been eagerly awaiting this! It’ll be amazing to see the Disney classics in the fine quality they deserve. Here’s hoping for Robin Hood to hit Blu-Ray next.

    I heard this is the best showing ever. this is one I will see for sure! My kids will also enjoy. I will get this on blu-ray disc as it has 7.1 surround. Sweeeet!

    This one has been remastered with the original painted BG’s + the Techirama animation sewn in. The original color pallete and new found detail are a result.

    This is one of my favorite Disney films, but it seems that every time something fantastic and great gets re-released, like Sleeping Beauty, we have to endure films that make you feel like taking straight razor A and applying it to wrist B, like Space Buddies, the next film in the Air Buddies saga.

    B.T.W. the next Disney Classic scheduled for release on Blu-Ray appears to be the 70th anniversary edition of Pinochio, in early 2009.

    i’m just asking but wont this look the same as the dvd version how does a 1959 cartoon look in 720p…:( even if its remastered only the colors will be better

    It’s all about pixels..I downloaded a 720p version of Transformers The Movie “the Generation 1 animated movie”..the lines are crisp..and the colors look better. So trust me..a 720p of a cartoon looks really really good :D

    If anyone has this or can find it on Megaupload I’d really appreciate it :) I’m going to eventually put up the Transformers animated movie on Megaupload..just FYI
