Comments on: Skype still doesn’t work properly

Has any VoIP ever worked properly? Everyone I know that has it complains of dropped calls, jacked up volume levels, and overall crappy service, be it Skype or Vonage or whoever. This doesn’t seem like news so much as it should be a warning to anyone thinking of losing their main line (land or cell) for VoIP service.

Skype is for douches, WI-FI is the future. If there is a wireless network near your house (high probability) you will have free phone service that is virtually undetectable. WEP encryption aint shiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit

Why would they compensate anyone? SkypeOut isn’t a subscription service, it’s pre-paid calling credit. You’re not losing money by not talking.

I was pulling my hair out because of SKYPE yesterday and did some searching and found this: http://www.icall.com/
It’s basically the same sh*t as Skype but outbound calling was free. I was able to call long distance, and cell phones in the US. I didn’t try canada though. Anyhow, it worked good. It also said it doesn’t support USB phones yet but mine was working fine, I just switch the audio settings. I also used a usb headset with no problem. They don’t have a mac version but I tried it with Parallels and it worked as well. But only with plug in headphones and a plug in mic. The usb didn’t work. Anyhow, good luck.

skype sucks.their top-secret-non-open protocol makes it impossible too be “the solution”.
Skype isn’t even real VoIP it is VoP2P. SIP works great with ENUM …but Mr. Kazaa-already-was-a-piece-of-shit-stroem thinks he can keep on stealing shit…e.g. MY MONEY for not renewing skyeIN-numbers but charging.
…at least it is not MSN.

Keep in mind, landlines also had problems back in the days.
- And still do, if theres construction and the lines accidentally get cut.
