Skins S02E01 WS PDTV XviD-RiVER

A new season of Skins is here! The last season of Skins ended ages ago so this should be pretty exciting for Skins fans. Skins is a British drama about college students basically taking drugs, partying and having sex. At least thats how I would sum up the first four episodes I’ve seen from the first season. Each episode is around 50 minutes, which is pretty long. I recommend this series, but you should really start from the beginning of season 1. Enjoy.

Skins revolves around the lives of a group of 16–18 year-old friends who live in Bristol. The Dawson Brothers claim the series represents the everyday lives of adolescents. The group includes a popular boy, his girlfriend, a geek, a Muslim boy, a gay character, a girl with eating disorder, an intelligent and privileged girl with family problems, and a party animal in love with his teacher. These characters attend the fictional Roundview Sixth Form College in Bristol. Each installment has a self-contained theme focusing on each different character respectively, but there are several story arcs that span different episodes.

    @22 RetiredPilot

    I am in the UK and personally i would not worry about it

    Already there are legal bodies making waves that this will be

    1 – an infringemant of privacy which is illegal
    2 – checking every byte of data in and out for every person is practically impossibe

    Here is a quote from just one law firm
As I suspected, there are already warnings about the privacy implications of this proposal as well as warnings about how big a technical challenge it would be.

    Patrick Charnley, solicitor in the media group at international law firm Eversheds, comments: “In practice, however, the government’s proposals may prove difficult to implement. How, for example, would an ISP deal with a person downloading legal peer-to-peer content ?

    “If an ISP has to monitor exactly what each user is doing on sites normally known for their illegal content, not only may this be an unacceptably onerous task, but it may also land the ISPs on the wrong side of privacy law.”
February 12th, 2008 | 16:04

    For anyone who didn’t read 22’s link the UK government is considering forcing ISP’s to spy on and report customers who access sites that deal in pirate material. This is all because of pressure from the big media companies.

    Isn’t that the kind of stuff they do in China?

  29. Paul
    February 12th, 2008 | 16:08

    No they don’t do it anywhere, they were talking about it on the radio today, it’s going to be impossible for isp to monitor every packet of data, it wont happen

    @welshuk I hope this not to succeed. We pay almost everything here in UK like TV license and if you go to some public toilet in London you need to pay aswell. And they claim they lost million’s because of piracy that is bulls***! Look at those people such artist, producers & director they own most of the expensive houses, cars and stuff on the planet!

    @Zleet

    How can the government tell an ISP to cancel a customer? The ISP is in business to make money, and so how can a government get involved in a business contract with a customer?

    Here in the US, no law could ever be created like this because the company would not want to get rid of their paying customers, and even if they did cancel their account, the customer would just move on to the next ISP and get an account with them.

    February 12th, 2008 | 21:54

    meh… skins really doesnt deserve recommendations. or at least the first series doesnt. it was a bit schitzophrenic, in that it didnt really know who it was trying to appeal to. the last couple of episodes of the first series got nice and dark, which was better (before that, it was like byker grove aged hollyoaks, with slightly more drugs, and slightly more annoying characters… and AWFUL performances by the adult actors, who seemed to be playing it like pantomime)…

    but then, it did pick up. and tony (the main character, the kid from about a boy) is apparently pretty messed up after waking up from a coma at the start of the series, so maybe just maybe theyre going to keep it going in the dark direction.

    ill give it a go, nowt else on :)

    February 12th, 2008 | 22:40

    @22 et al…

    LOL!! no surprises there – the government yet again sets out to defend those poor pathetic multi-national corporations from we, the evil taxpaying public.

    they wont be able to do it. its yet another example of politicians listening to businessmen then making policies, with no further research, and no effort to consult the electorate.

    all studies have suggested that downloading costs the “creative industries” nothing – if you like it that much, you go out and buy it, and if you dont like it, you probably wouldnt have bought it in the first place; most downloaders (sorry, PIRATES!) use downloads as a ‘try before you buy’… admittedly not all, but the vast majority of people who use this site for instance will own film and music collections that have been paid for.

    secondly, it has been shown that ‘PIRATES’ tend to spend more than those who dont download, because they are exposed to a broader and more diverse spectrum of media – online communities recommend all kinds of different stuff that the mainstream media just doesnt bother with, because they dont think it has a broad enough appeal. i can name countless bands and films i would never have discovered without file sharing/downloading. and all the ones i really like, i go out and buy their stuff, cause lets face it, a dvdrip or an mp3 album is great quality to give something a test run, but it starts to look a bit poor when you put it up on a big screen or play it through a nice stereo.

    the cost of implementing this kind of a law would only be handed on to the ISP’s consumers, making UK broadband even MORE EXPENSIVE than it already is.

    and then theres the privacy issue.

    i dunno, theyll probably pass the law, and the ISP’s will probably try to stick to it for a while, but eventually itll all fall apart, and the tories will probably say they said it was a bad idea all along (which they clearly arent saying).

    politics in this country is such a mess.

    Enjoy what you have, the grass always seems greener on the other side. Except here in Darfur, where we have no grass.

    I would agree it will be impossible to monitor every byte of someones traffic. However, the ISP’s will likely have set ‘limits’ that once you pass them they begin to monitor your account. They will probably try to use this as a selling point. Such as… ‘Most people will never be monitored’ & ‘Only a small percentage of internet users will be affected’. I kind of doubt this will gain any real traction. Even people that don’t pirate stuff will be pissed off about this kind of thing. If they really want this to take off they have to find some kind of way to make it seem like a good idea to your average joe. Perhaps stating that by eliminating piracy they can lower prices for everyone. Which we all know is total BS, but I wouldn’t be suprised to see them say something like that. Anyways, I wouldn’t get your panties in a bunch just yet!

    @ ReeGed:

    What you refer to as college students is misleading. That’s what they call it in the UK. Sixth form college is the equivalent of 11th & 12th grade here in the U.S. So these would still be under age high school students in this country. However, it is a good show.

    Not everybody is from America. From what I’ve seen education wise these kids are as educated as your college students anyway, and as close to drinking age. (I’m a Grad student at Dartmouth so have a good idea)

    Anyways, being born and raised in Bristol I love this show. These kids seem to go to way more raves than back in my day though! (I’m only 21 now and the show makes me feel old!)
