Sins Of A Solar Empire-PROCYON

Finally a new game comes out that is not ”hello kitty roller skate 4” or ”my ho(r)se part 29”. This actually looks like a decent game, that mixes Homeworld and Supreme Commander. Although graphics do look so-so, it is the gameplay that is important, and I think this title has plenty of that! (hey, don’t blame me for being positive on a game that I haven’t played (yet), I am just glad for the first decent game of the last 2 weeks or something :P)

In the future, the survival of humanity stands on the edge of utter ruin as three powerful factions vie for control of the galaxy. Take command of one of three space-faring races as you work to establish your domination of the galaxy in Sins of a Solar Empire. Through a combination of diplomacy, economic skill, cultural influence, and sheer military might you will establish order over your corner of the galaxy!

Summary:

Take control of one of three space-faring races as you work to establish your dominance of the galaxy in Sins of a Solar Empire. Through a combination of diplomacy, economic savvy, the spread of culture and of course sheer brute force and victory on the battlefield you will establish order over your corner of the galaxy.

Explore the Epic Scale of a Dynamic Galaxy

Explore and conquer neighboring planets and distant solar systems in a massively scaled, fully 3D galaxy featuring planets, clusters of asteroids, rare comets and radiant stars.

Game Features:

  • Can support thousands of planets and solar systems, the only limitation is the player’s system.
  • Massive, detailed textures on ships, planets and orbital structures.
  • Hundreds of ships on-screen at once, engaged in epic battle.
  • Up to 10,000 particles (explosions, missiles, laser blasts etc.) on the screen at once in full-out combat.
  • Seamless zoom-in and zoom-out from looking at a one-man space fighter, to viewing your entire empire spanning billions of kilometers of space.
  • The Iron Engine is designed to perform well on systems ranging from middle-of-the-road hardware, to the biggest, most powerful machines on the market today. Effects, number of ships, planets etc. are only limited by how powerful your machine is. There are no hard-coded limits.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Windows XP SP2 / Windows Vista
  • 1.8 GHz Single-Core Processor
  • 512 MB RAM (1 GB for Windows Vista)
  • 128 MB DirectX 9 3D Video Card (Radeon 9600 / GeForce FX 6600 and above)
  • DirectX 9.0c Compatible Sound Card
  • DVD-ROM Drive
  • 3 GB Hard Drive Space
  • Keyboard and Mouse
  • DirectX 9.0c

im afraid sins is a better game than for example turok. the devs say that this is something between TA and homeworld (TA is a sort of legend in rts world) So im definately downloading it and if it is what they promise, i will most certainly shell out money for it. You see, not everybody is a consoletard whos attention span is .3seconds.
A bit OT but egosoft is working on the next chapter for X3 also (was on the news yesterday i think) so this year doesnt look so bad after all.

    February 5th, 2008 | 23:47

    Less than a gig? :o
That’s damn surprising considering most games these days and you can control big galaxies and fleets and stuff in it.
Looking forward to this, new Homeworld type game.

    z,
The universe/galaxy/space/whatever is easier on your harddrive than fully rendered 3d worlds, which take up tons of GBs, thats why it isnt a massive download

    February 6th, 2008 | 01:40

tried it, but don’t like it that much. it sucks that it has no campaign and you only have kinda skirmish mode. could be fun with lots of players in mp though.

  38. I'd rather play King Quest
    February 6th, 2008 | 01:50

    Ewwwww
After playing the masterpiece that was Galactic Cvilization II this look like a piece of crap.

The game should be named “Sin Of A Crappy Company” instead.

Gotta love kids that say just how bad this game is, yet it came out yesterday, has stellar reviews, and they haven’t played it yet.

This is an amazing game by an amazing company. They never put that nasty invasive copy protection in their games. Do yourselves a favor, download it, play it, love it!! Then BUY it so you can love the Multiplayer as well!!

  48. Wankstar
    February 6th, 2008 | 03:26

I played it. It sucked :/ im not into space games. Too slow and too boring. The game even auto-shoots for you… so i tried makroing around the ships, without luck.

    February 6th, 2008 | 03:50

never heard anything of this but after playing around the last 3 hours with it (i just wanted to take a look into) i must say : AMAZING !!! this is really one of the best RTS games ive ever played .. its neraly similar to supreme commander ,just another location

if you like rts and space games : GRAB IT , its really worth it and you get hooked on

  50. Hahah
    February 6th, 2008 | 03:59

    You guys are hillarious.

It isnt a space shooter, it’s an RTS.

If you’re not a fan of RTS games, don’t bother with it. But if you liked Homeworld or Supreme Commander, this will be sex for you.

  51. anon
    February 6th, 2008 | 04:14

IAMME, outside of both being science-fiction they have nothing else similar, for crying out loud, one is an RPG and one is an RTS (Or 4x RTT).

    You’re an idiot.

  61. Lasher
    February 6th, 2008 | 09:03

RTS games are the most dire of them all, the only game worse then a [Really Tiring Sh**] is a football management simulator, I seriously can’t wrap my head around the fact that people actually like theese games, Warcraft, Starcraft, World in Conflict… Hell I downloaded WiC and got bored with it half way through the first mission, the training mission was a struggle but I knew that’d be boring. Thought I’d give the real levels a go, and it was a strain just to do that, I mean seriously, I’ve had more fun cutting away the board games off of cereal boxes and playing them.

I know I know, to each his own, sure… some people collect stamps, but if I was gunna play a game like this, It’d be eve, atleast then friendships you make are worth staying on the game for even if the game sucks itself.

They should redo PSI-5 trading company. Best space game ever. I remember waiting for it, buying it (for C-64), playing it for hours.
There is a version on the net you can play but alas cannot choose the crew.
    :) :) :)

These modern games are all too complicated for me and also require reflexes which I do not anymore possess.

    @34
“that looks like series i’ve watched called Andromeda. it was good series :). i think ill give it a try.”

Yeah since we beez such leet 1337 doodz we is wayz 2 cool 4 this game, but guess it beez ok till da big boy gamez be outz! How cool is we coz we can take the piss out of a game BOOYAH!
Seriously if you don’t have anything constructive to say then don’t say anything at all. For all those ridiculing this game, people like you are the reason quality in the games industry is going down the toilet. How do you think the “big games” are hyped up? It’s just advertising budgets, because publishers know they can sell crap to idiots if they convince them it’s a “big game”. This is an excellent game, and for all those of you laughing at it, read the glowing review that will be in PC Gamer soon enough, or are reviews for LOOOZAZ!

  71. J3ph_42
    February 6th, 2008 | 13:31

Bought this game off Stardock, indefinitely worth it,unit AI is better than many RTS, so you don’t have to babysit every unit all the time, graphics scale pretty well, pirates who you can essentially bribe to attack people, resourcing that works like TA/SC, combat like HW, no copy protection (so no searching for a cd or a nocd), camera zoom like SC, simple “stock market” where you can buy and sell raw materials, and the prices change when you do so. Highly recommended.
