Hey guys,
wondering if you could help me. I've installed and re-installed a few times now and each time I go to play the game it says it can't find the library file dx_d30.dll. I've searched the files on the CD and the ones uploaded onto me comp, and it is there, it just can't seem to find it. I'm a bit of a techno spaz, so could anyone help me?

Did anyone find a manual for this game. I got it but need help in figuring out the alliance system with Nature or Technology. I had +10% on technology, allocated 2 skill points to the tech skill that gave me +2 to Int and Contrib but when I finished a Nature quest I lost the alliance to technology a so I lost the +4 Int/Con points and now I'm like uh WTF?
Can anyone help or explain this?

Thanks,
Dan

The crack that came with this release does not work.
I had to borrow my friend's dvd. Have to give it back soon though.

Does anyone know of a game fix that works?

6. Connection-Related Issues
========================================================================

Dial-Up and some DSL users generally need to establish a connection to the Internet before starting any multiplayer game. Cable modem users are generally connected automatically when Windows starts.

The following items are known to be sources of connection issues and the information may be helpful if you are having problems connecting or staying connected to Game. We understand that some of these devices or technologies may have been in place for periods of time and have only recently begun having problems. We suggest that you try these troubleshooting tips.

I. You Need an Account with a Broadband ISP to Play on the Internet

You must have a connection to a Broadband Internet Service Provider (ISP) through a computer meeting the minimum system requirements to connect with other players. This includes Cable Modem service, xDSL service, and Direct Corporate Connections. If you need help configuring your computer to use the Internet, contact your ISP's technical support. Such Internet connections may require additional fees. You are responsible for all applicable Internet fees.

II. Firewall, Proxy, or Anti-Virus Software

While an important part of home computer security or a way to provide connection sharing, these technologies can interfere with game connectivity. If you are having connection problems and are using one of these types of software you may need to temporarily disable it, and then try connecting to the game. If the issues cease while this software is disabled, please refer to the section Configure Your Firewall or Router for Internet Play below.

III. Configure Your Firewall or Router for Internet Play

Firewall software is designed to prevent hostile action from outside your computer or network from affecting files on your hard drive. Internet gaming activity can seem like such action to this type of software. You may encounter problems trying to connect to a multiplayer game if your computer is behind a firewall. Please refer to your firewall documentation for suggestions on how to allow specific programs to operate through it if you do not intend to temporarily take it down, or ask your network/system administrator for assistance. In addition, many routers designed to share one Internet connection among more than one computer have firewalls built into them.

IV. Opening Ports to Play Behind a Firewall

If you are behind a firewall or proxy, and you are on a system where you are able to change its settings, you may need to open certain TCP & UDP ports to connect to multiplayer games.

The following ports may need to be opened : 28999, 30400, 9103

Please consult your network administrator or your router manufacturer for information on how to set up these ports. You should also install the latest firmware available for your router from the manufacturer.

V. Routers

In general, you should be able to connect to the game without modifications needed to the router. However, if you are experiencing connection problems and are using a router, we suggest bypassing the router and connecting directly to your connectivity device. If your problems cease while bypassing the router you can try these things:

- Try resetting your router to its default settings.

- Check your router manufacturer's website for any available Firmware updates. If available, download and install those.

VI. PPPoE Connections

Some PPPoE connections require a login and password, as well as a phone number, to dial into the connection. Please make sure you make note of this information so that when the time comes to input it you will have it available to use without having to contact your ISP.

VII. Configuring Online Options

Hosting bandwidth: Home connections have various upload and download capabilities. Upload bandwidth is often much less then download. If you wish to Host a game, please review the chart below, which outlines the optimal number of players for certain upload capabilities. If you are uncertain of your upload capabilities, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP). You may also want to check sites such as www.dslreports.com to get an approximation of your connection capabilities.

VIII. Multiplayer Connection Options

When you choose to play a multiplayer game, you have two options available for connecting to or hosting a game. These options are:

- Internet: These games are found via queries to Quazal servers.

- LAN: These games are only broadcast to your local network.

IX. Getting Disconnected After Starting Game

You may be disconnected from your ISP connection while playing if your Internet Options in the Windows Control Panel is set to automatically disconnect after a certain period of inactivity. We recommend that you disable this option before playing to prevent being disconnected while in game.

X. Internet Performance Issues

The time of day can have an impact on your connection quality. If you have trouble playing over your Internet connection during peak hours, you might try playing later at night or at other times of the day to get a better quality connection.

- Dropped Packets: Each piece of data that is sent over a network or the Internet is called a packet. It is important for all of these packets to be delivered intact and in a timely manner for a smooth multiplayer experience. The Internet can frequently drop packets (lose them) depending on the quality of your connection and the amount of traffic on the Internet itself. If packets can't get through between a player and the game servers due to a poor connection, some issues may occur.

- Latency: Latency is a measure of the time (in milliseconds) that it takes for data to travel round-trip from one computer to another over a Network or the Internet. On the Internet, high latency can cause game performance to degrade severely. When playing any game over the Internet, it is important to have a low latency connection. High latency will contribute to poor multiplayer performance and decreased stability.

- Connection Problems: If you are consistently having trouble with dropped packets or latency, we recommend that you disconnect and reconnect to your ISP. If these issues continue, we recommend that you contact your ISP Technical Support for assistance.

XI. IRQ Conflicts

We recommend that you check to assure that your network adapter is not sharing an IRQ with your Video or Sound card. To check for this:

- Right click on the My Computer icon on your desktop
- Select Properties from the menu.
- Select the Device Manager tab
- Double click the Computer entry at the top of the device list. This should bring up the IRQ Resource window. If your network card is sharing an IRQ with your video or sound card, you may need to physically move your sound or network card in order to resolve the IRQ conflict. Please refer to your motherboard documentation or system manufacturer for instructions on moving and installing hardware into your system.

========================================================================
7. Known Issues
========================================================================

- There is a known issue where Silverfall can crash when attempting to resume from a locked Windows XP session. If you plan to leave the game idle for a long period of time, it is recommended that you save your progress manually to avoid lost of user data.

========================================================================
8. Troubleshooting
========================================================================

I. Component Transfer Error

You may see a Feature Transfer Error message when installing the game. If this occurs, you may have purchased a defective DVD, the disc may be dirty and/or damaged, or the DVD may be incompatible with your Optical Drive. Please try running the installer on another system to assure that the disc is functioning properly.

If you find that the DVD is dirty and/or damaged please follow the steps listed under "DVD-ROM Access Error".

II. "Ran out of virtual memory"

If you encounter the following message in an error dialog, "Ran out of virtual memory", you will need to free up additional hard drive space to continue installation.

Installation requires hard drive space on your C: drive even when you are installing to a different hard drive. This is due to a specification in InstallShield, which requires uninstall information to be stored on the C: drive. Because of this, you may see an error during installation stating that you do not have enough free space to install the game when there is ample room available in the install directory.

If this occurs, you will need to free at least 50 MB on the C: drive prior to installation. Please contact your system vendor should you require assistance doing this.

III. DVD-ROM Access Error

A DVD-ROM access error might be a symptom of one of these problems:

- You may have a dirty or scratched DVD.
- Your DVD-ROM drive may be having trouble reading the disc.
- Your DVD-ROM drive may be getting old or worn.
- Your DVD-ROM may not be properly installed in Windows.

First, check your DVD for any dirt, fingerprints, smudges or scratches. To clean your DVD, wipe it gently with a soft cloth, moving in smooth strokes from the center hub to the outer edge of the DVD. If your DVD looks fine, replace it in the drive and see if you continue to have this problem. If the problem persists, try testing the drive with a different DVD.

IV. What Should I Do If My Computer Goes to a Black Screen or Locks Up?

If you end up at a black screen or the game appears to lock up, please press ESC before trying anything else. If this fails, press CTRL-ALT-DEL once, click Task Manager, and then choose END TASK on Silverfall. If you do not see a dialog box after pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL, press ENTER twice and this should take you back to the desktop. Then restart your computer and try running the game again.

V. Should I Have Other Programs Running in the Background?

Generally, we have found that it is not a good idea to run any other programs in the background during gameplay. Please disable any active screen savers while running this game, as they may interrupt the game and cause problems. Various video, sound, or memory problems may occur if other programs are running, including virus-detection utilities.

You may need to disable or close programs that start automatically when Windows is started. Some of these programs display icons on your system tray. If you have icons in your system tray, right-click on each of them and select the option to disable, unload, exit, or close them before running your game. The next time you start your computer, these items will load once more and the icons will return. If you cannot disable them from the taskbar and you experience problems running your game, we recommend that you consult Windows Help for information on how to remove shortcuts or how to keep other programs from running in the background.

VI. Power Management

If your computer is equipped with a Power Management feature, you may want to disable it. Please consult your computer's documentation or the manufacturer for assistance in doing this. When Power Management is enabled, the following problems may occur:

- The game may crash or go to a blue screen when sleep mode activates. The Windows mouse cursor may not appear when the computer returns from sleep mode.

- The monitor may go to a black screen while you are playing or when sitting at one screen for long periods of time.

VII. Administrative Rights

Some steps noted in this Troubleshooting Guide require you to make adjustments to your system, such as setting up your monitor. These steps will not be possible to complete unless you are logged onto the system with Administrative rights. Without these rights, you may be unable to select an option because it is grayed out.

Administrative rights allow a user to make changes to a computer, its settings, access rights, files, user accounts and are required to update DirectX. Before installing the game, you should consider whether a minor or other user should be granted local Administrative rights because of these capabilities. You do not need to grant these rights to be able to play the game.

VIII. Playing the Game in a Limited (Restricted) User Account

You will be able to play your game on a Limited (or Restricted) User account after the Administrator has installed the game.

IX. Keyboard Functionality

Pressing ALT, CTRL or SHIFT multiple times during Gameplay may bring up a Windows dialog box while playing the game. This is a function of Accessibility options. For information regarding disabling this feature, please consult Windows Help.

X. Shortcut Does Not Appear on the Desktop

You will be prompted to create a shortcut to your game on your desktop during installation. The shortcut to the game may not be displayed on your desktop after installation if your system is configured for multiple users, with each person using a separate profile. If this occurs, you will need to navigate to the Windows Desktop folder and copy the shortcut to your current desktop or copy the shortcut from the Start Menu to your desktop.

XI. Windows Firewall

With the release of Service Pack 2 for Windows XP, Microsoft added the Windows Firewall, which can sometimes conflict with and/or cause abnormal behavior during installation or gameplay. To add your game to the Windows Firewall exception list, please do the following:

- Click Start and then click Control Panel.

- In the control panel, click Security Center, and then click Windows Firewall.

- Open the Exceptions tab, located under Programs and Services, and click the Add Program button. In the Add a Program dialog, click Browse and locate the application you wish to allow.

- Verify your game is listed in the Programs and Services list and press the OK button to accept the changes and dismiss the dialog. Press OK on the network connection's "Properties" dialog to apply the changes. Your new firewall exceptions will take effect immediately.

XII. Firewalls and Port Range List:

In order to join or host a Silverfall game from behind a router with NAT (Network Address Translation), or firewall, you may need to enable PORT FORWARDING. You will need to route, or forward, all data on the following ports to the IP address assigned to your personal computer system

- 30400
- 28999
- 9103
Users using DHCP must ensure that their personal computer is always assigned the IP address specified in the PORT FORWARDING setup; under these circumstances you may need to change your PC from "Auto Detect (DHCP)" to a "Static IP" address in your Network Interface Card's options.

For details on firewall port configuration, please refer to the instruction manual provided with your firewall software or firewall device. If you are still having problems connecting to other players, try bypassing the router or firewall by connecting your PC directly into your DSL modem, Cable modem, or other broadband device.

10. Dual-Core Processor Support
========================================================================

With the release of dual-core processors, such as the AMD Athlon X2 or the Intel Core Duo, some titles that were designed for single-core processors are having issues. These issues can manifest as the following:

- Choppy and/or stuttering performance, sometimes manifesting as random pausing, during gameplay

- Gameplay performing at hyper speeds making it impossible to play.

These issues are being caused due to the timestamp counter not always being read correctly (more specifically, different timestamp counters in the system may contain different values) by the game. As time goes on these issues will disappear however here are some solutions should you run into these issues:

I. AMD Dual-Core driver

If you have an AMD dual-core processor installed please be sure to download the latest drivers from AMD's website at www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html.

Please note that Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 will be required before you will be able to install these drivers. If you do not have Service Pack 2 installed you will need to go to Microsoft's Windows Update site or you may download it here: www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3DVDb5a&DisplayLang=en

After installing these drivers, please test the game to see if this has resolved the issue.

II. Dual-Core Power Management support under Windows XP

From Microsoft's website at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256:

"Computers that are equipped with multiple processors that support processor power management features, such as Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) processor performance states, require Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). Without these updates, computers that are equipped with these power management-capable, mobile, dual-core processors may experience decreased performance or unexpected behavior.
If you are still experiencing problems, you will need to obtain a hotfix from Microsoft."

Users will need to currently call Microsoft to receive the fix. A list of contact numbers may be found here:

http://support.microsoft.com/contactus/?ws=support

Note: The hotfix is only needed for the 32-bit OS, the issue is not occurring on the 64-bit OS.

III. Processor/Thread Affinity

If none of the above steps have helped, or if you have an Intel Pentium D or an Intel Core Duo processor, you can try setting what is called the thread affinity for your game. To do this, please do the following:

a. Start your game.

b. Once you have reached the main menu press ALT+TAB (press and hold the ALT key while pressing the TAB key) which should then minimize your game to a window on your taskbar.

c. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up your Windows Task Manager.

d. Click the tab labeled "Processes" and locate the executable file for your game. Typically this will be named after the game you are running.

e. Select the application by moving your mouse pointer and pressing your right-mouse button.

f. This should then bring up a menu and select "Set Affinity". From this window, make sure that only CPU 0 is selected and no others, and click "OK".

g. Once this is completed press ALT+TAB to return to your game. Should your game crash during this process, your settings will still be saved and you should be able to re-launch the game without an issue.

Some graphics settings have a large impact on performance and can require extra processing power and resources from your graphics card. If you experience poor performance or other unanticipated results, try changing the following options in the Video Menu:

1.	Set Anti-Aliasing to 0x.
2.	Set Texture Minification Filtering, Texture Maginification and Mipmap Filtering to Linear.
3.	Reduce Shadows to Low or None.
4.	Disable Normal Mapped Terrain.
5.	Disable Water Reflections.
6.	Reduce Screen Resolution to 1024×768 or 800×600.

6. Connection-Related Issues
========================================================================

If you need help configuring your computer to use the Internet, contact your ISP’s technical support.

- Check your router manufacturer’s website for any available Firmware updates.

You may also want to check sites such as http://www.dslreports.com to get an approximation of your connection capabilities.

If packets can’t get through between a player and the game servers due to a poor connection, some issues may occur.

========================================================================
7. Known Issues
========================================================================

- There is a known issue where Silverfall can crash when attempting to resume from a locked Windows XP session. If you plan to leave the game idle for a long period of time, it is recommended that you save your progress manually to avoid lost of user data.

========================================================================
8. Troubleshooting
========================================================================

If you find that the DVD is dirty and/or damaged please follow the steps listed under “DVD-ROM Access Error”.

II. “Ran out of virtual memory”

If you encounter the following message in an error dialog, “Ran out of virtual memory”, you will need to free up additional hard drive space to continue installation.

Please consult your computer’s documentation or the manufacturer for assistance in doing this.

Press OK on the network connection’s “Properties” dialog to apply the changes.

– 30400
– 28999
– 9103
Users using DHCP must ensure that their personal computer is always assigned the IP address specified in the PORT FORWARDING setup; under these circumstances you may need to change your PC from “Auto Detect (DHCP)” to a “Static IP” address in your Network Interface Card’s options.

For details on firewall port configuration, please refer to the instruction manual provided with your firewall software or firewall device. If you are still having problems connecting to other players, try bypassing the router or firewall by connecting your PC directly into your DSL modem, Cable modem, or other broadband device.

========================================================================
10. Dual-Core Processor Support
========================================================================

If you have an AMD dual-core processor installed please be sure to download the latest drivers from AMD’s website at http://www.amd.com/us-en/Processors/TechnicalResources/0,,30_182_871_13118,00.html.

Please note that Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 will be required before you will be able to install these drivers. If you do not have Service Pack 2 installed you will need to go to Microsoft’s Windows Update site or you may download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=049c9dbe-3b8e-4f30-8245-9e368d3DVDb5a&DisplayLang=en

After installing these drivers, please test the game to see if this has resolved the issue.

II. Dual-Core Power Management support under Windows XP

From Microsoft’s website at http://support.microsoft.com/?id=896256:

“Computers that are equipped with multiple processors that support processor power management features, such as Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI) processor performance states, require Microsoft Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2). Without these updates, computers that are equipped with these power management-capable, mobile, dual-core processors may experience decreased performance or unexpected behavior.
If you are still experiencing problems, you will need to obtain a hotfix from Microsoft.”

To do this, please do the following:

a. Start your game.

b. Once you have reached the main menu press ALT+TAB (press and hold the ALT key while pressing the TAB key) which should then minimize your game to a window on your taskbar.

c. Press CTRL+ALT+DEL to bring up your Windows Task Manager.

d. Click the tab labeled “Processes” and locate the executable file for your game. Typically this will be named after the game you are running.

e. Select the application by moving your mouse pointer and pressing your right-mouse button.

f. This should then bring up a menu and select “Set Affinity”. From this window, make sure that only CPU 0 is selected and no others, and click “OK”.

g. Once this is completed press ALT+TAB to return to your game. Should your game crash during this process, your settings will still be saved and you should be able to re-launch the game without an issue.

Well I'm bit surprised that many people hate this game. Granted - its Diablo clone. It's true that RPG part is rather simple. But if u liked Diablo, u most certainly should like Silverfall. Graphic is outstanding (but my 8800GTS might have something to do with this ;) ), music is good too. "Playableness" is also good. If u like to kill thousand of odd creatures and u liked Diablo, u should play Silverfall. For me it's a very good game. Ofcourse, if u are RPG freak u should'nt bother. Its not that kind of game.

Its not that kind of game.

I like reading here, so not being an ass; but...

"Similarly, item drops can be easily overlooked, since they don’t highlight immediately after hitting the ground like in other games. Items eventually become more noticeable when left to sit for a few minutes, but many players will have moved on to a different area."

Try alt-button ;). Again, a diablo2-feature-ripoff.
And if you hate to leftclick, all the time to run around, hold it down - a rip off feature aswell.

Hey there.

Okay, so i played this 2 hours, these are my 2 cents. I don't give a fuck if you ppl don't agree.

1. It runs smooth on my 3ghz, 2.5gb ram, wank gfx-card.

2. If you liked diablo and are like 10 years old, this game might be interesting for you.

It's a diablo 2 rip off, and it really... really... suck. The producers wanted to make a diablo 2 clone, cos then they would make a bit of money, then some idiot started talkin about ripping off Neverwinter nights - then they made it more RPG-like. - Which makes it EVEN more suck (not that i hate NWN2, it totally rock like BG2). I hate they try and mix it, cos diablo 2 = action gamers, who likes to go: Click, click, click, click, click. And then the RPG/strategy-players, who likes to go: Click, read, think, click. You CAN'T mix them, it'll go doll for both type of players.

3. The grafic totally suck.

4. This might have been a good download, if it came out 5 years ago... but... In short: Don't download!
