Silverfall-ViTALiTY

And another nice Action-RPG is here! Silverfall is a nice mix between older RPG’s. Think about WoW, Diablo, Neverwinter Nights, Final Fantasy and Dungeon Siege… and there you have it: Silverfall. With the use of Cell-shaded graphics, nice gamplay and a lot of variation throughout the game, this one is worth to try!

Science and nature conflict in Silverfall, an upcoming fantasy role-playing game. We were initially put-off by the grainy graphics, especially since the game doesn’t appear to have any options to increase the quality or resolution. However, this game looks good when zoomed in close, where players can appreciate the cell-shaded characters and creatures. In many ways, the rest of the game can be seen this way. At first glance, Silverfall may come off as an unimpressive RPG, but its unique charm starts to peek through when players look a little deeper.

Game play comes down to a tried-and-true hack’n’slash role playing style, where players create a hero, pick up quests and cut their way through hordes of monsters. At later stages, additional characters can be added to the party, making it similar to games like Dungeon Siege II, complete with skill trees divided into pages where players invest in a variety of disciplines. Silverfall adds a bit of a twist to the formula by including factional loyalty options. Most quests provide players with the option of gaining favor toward Nature or Science. Choosing to support nature eventually earns the favor of beast-men while furthering the goals of science earns goblin allies. Skills found in the science disciplines include implant modifications that increase attributes like intellect and constitution, while nature grants lycanthropy and more offensive capabilities. To sweeten things, skills stack on one another, meaning putting points into low level base powers will influence the effectiveness of higher level powers. For example, putting more points into the base magic blast increases the range of all spells. Players won’t need to feel committed toward one discipline, or forced to put up with unimpressive abilities. For a price, skill points may be refunded and allocated to different areas, so players have a great deal of flexibility with their characters’ development.

The game’s biggest challenge will be keeping players from the overwhelmed by groups of lumbering monsters. Most players can easily get by through freezing foes in place then slashing at them with a heavy sword. However, bigger flaws need to be dealt with. The map system could use some tweaking to better show the location of critical NPC’s. Wandering lost through town while looking for a character ruins the experience. Similarly, item drops can be easily overlooked, since they don’t highlight immediately after hitting the ground like in other games. Items eventually become more noticeable when left to sit for a few minutes, but many players will have moved on to a different area.

Game features:

  • The choices influence the game in several ways:
  • Recruitment of different allies for the final battle. The goblins of Cloudworks will help you if you choose technology, the Beast-men of Gaian if you select nature. Different weapons and armour have an influence on the battles and the visual aspect of the player.
  • Two separate skill trees each provide 10 special talents (lycanthropy or implant, insect invocations or radioactivity..).
  • These skills are not offered to the player choosing the opposite way. A player who has the skill of lycanthropy instead of having implants will not fight in the same manner.
  • Lycanthropy increases the player’s force and speed of combat and gives him the “berserk” capacity.
  • It is very interesting for players who have not developed their physical skills very much as this allows them occasionally to be very effective in melee combat.
  • The implants, when received, provide specific skill bonuses. For example, a mechanical arm will provide bonuses in long distance precision shooting and the possibility of using firearms.
  • Modification of Silverfall, the principal city, according to the player’s alignment. The city changes in appearance, the merchants do not sell the same merchandise, etc…

System requirements:

  • OS: XP

  • Graphic Card: DirectX 9.0c compatible 3D card with 128 MB

I can’t really figure out if this is an online game, or offline? Thanks.

  2. March 10th, 2007 | 15:39

offline Daniel, although it doesn’t look too different than the majority of online RPGs. the only problem of this game is the size in my eyes, the rest looks just cool.

Thanks for the answer Martin – seems like a really nice game, but usually the games like this is only good online – but I’ll give it a try, it still looks pretty nice =)

General rule: Unless the release (most of all by a known release group) states it is in another language then it shall be in English. Exception might be a game from Japan which has a year till it hits other countries if it does at all.

    -

And I might add, I played the Italian release as well. But unless this game was changed greatly, then this game might entertain you but it won’t be anything impressive. It would be up there with Jade Empire. I’ve heard a lot of hype about it but when I played it, I felt dirty and let down for thinking it might be a great game. Just a fair warning so no one is let down that it doesn’t blow their mind away playing it.

not 10 gb, 6.82 GB. probably to store all the cinematic movie or sound if everyone speaks in the game.

i’m a rpg nut so this is definitely something i’m looking forward to try out.

the only bummer part is the bit about “Recruitment of different allies for the final battle.” that sounds like in gothic iii. whatever town/city you help, they will send you their soldiers to help with the big battle towards the end of that game. only thing is, i want to recruit everyone not just one faction.

oh, well. don’t knock it until you play it, i guess.

I played the demo, and was completely unimpressed with this game. It suffers from a terrible HUD, and even worse controls.

Apparentely there is a configuration tool to change graphics, however I was forced to manually change the resolution in the .ini file. It has presets of “low, normal, high” however you can set custom resolutions such as “1920;1200″

game would be nice if not having huge system reqiurements. I have sempron 2800+ , radeon 9600pro 128 and 512 ram. On low details and everything set to off , its pretty slow , even patched to 1.16. So dev’s fucked something up…

    Hey there.

Okay, so i played this 2 hours, these are my 2 cents. I don’t give a fuck if you ppl don’t agree.

    1. It runs smooth on my 3ghz, 2.5gb ram, wank gfx-card.

    2. If you liked diablo and are like 10 years old, this game might be interesting for you.

It’s a diablo 2 rip off, and it really… really… suck. The producers wanted to make a diablo 2 clone, cos then they would make a bit of money, then some idiot started talkin about ripping off Neverwinter nights – then they made it more RPG-like. – Which makes it EVEN more suck (not that i hate NWN2, it totally rock like BG2). I hate they try and mix it, cos diablo 2 = action gamers, who likes to go: Click, click, click, click, click. And then the RPG/strategy-players, who likes to go: Click, read, think, click. You CAN’T mix them, it’ll go doll for both type of players.

    3. The grafic totally suck.

    4. This might have been a good download, if it came out 5 years ago… but… In short: Don’t download!

I like reading here, so not being an ass; but…

“Similarly, item drops can be easily overlooked, since they don’t highlight immediately after hitting the ground like in other games. Items eventually become more noticeable when left to sit for a few minutes, but many players will have moved on to a different area.”

    Try alt-button ;) . Again, a diablo2-feature-ripoff.
And if you hate to leftclick, all the time to run around, hold it down – a rip off feature aswell.

Well I’m bit surprised that many people hate this game. Granted – its Diablo clone. It’s true that RPG part is rather simple. But if u liked Diablo, u most certainly should like Silverfall. Graphic is outstanding (but my 8800GTS might have something to do with this ;) ), music is good too. “Playableness” is also good. If u like to kill thousand of odd creatures and u liked Diablo, u should play Silverfall. For me it’s a very good game. Ofcourse, if u are RPG freak u should’nt bother. Its not that kind of game.

I had to borrow my friend’s dvd. Have to give it back soon though.

Does anyone know of a game fix that works?

Did anyone find a manual for this game. I got it but need help in figuring out the alliance system with Nature or Technology. I had +10% on technology, allocated 2 skill points to the tech skill that gave me +2 to Int and Contrib but when I finished a Nature quest I lost the alliance to technology a so I lost the +4 Int/Con points and now I’m like uh WTF?
Can anyone help or explain this?

    Thanks,
    Dan

    Hey guys,
wondering if you could help me. I’ve installed and re-installed a few times now and each time I go to play the game it says it can’t find the library file dx_d30.dll. I’ve searched the files on the CD and the ones uploaded onto me comp, and it is there, it just can’t seem to find it. I’m a bit of a techno spaz, so could anyone help me?
