Shattered Suns-GOW

GOW just released a RTS game called Shattered Suns. This game promises to revolutionize the real-time strategy (RTS) genre. That is a pretty bold statement and something I don’t see happening but we’ll see. The hardware requirements are pretty low so this should run on most computers.  I won’t be downloading this game but if you are a fan of Sci-fi or RTS games you should give it a shot.

Description: 

Shattered Suns is a sci-fi adventure that redefines the real-time strategy (RTS) genre. In it players take on the role of Captain Max, a rebel leader caught on the wrong side of an imperial interstellar land grab and wage a campaign of guerilla warfare in space against the superior firepower and numbers of an ever-expanding empire. This is done by utilizing the game’s unprecedented levels of mechanical customization. To succeed ships, space stations, outposts and armadas not only can be, but must be customized for specific and changing tactical situations. In addition, because the game’s battles take place over the vast distances of space and utilize orbiting heavenly bodies and man-made satellites as staging areas, players must master the art of spatial orientation and deep space tactics or risk being isolated in the void, face to face with a mortal enemey and with no chance of rapid reinforcement.

    I don’t really see what’s so special about this game. the trailer made a huge deal out of the custom ships and 3-D space battles - things Homeworld was doing almost a decade ago

    @17 Alone in the Dark 4 wasnt cracked by the big scene groups because Atari is on the verge of bankrupcy, and they didnt want to worsen things for them by crackin the game. This has nothing to do with Bionic Commando.

    I like WoW Graphics, but when it comes to space combat I prefer real 3D instead of cartoon graphics. I still play freelancer and it still has good graphics for an old game from 2004. I will try this game out anyways. I think the best space engine ever made is still: EVE Online. I wish I could play this game offline and the community added npc mod’s like freelancer that would be badass.

    Eve online was coded in Python(stackless) and OpenGL(all open source and standards based libraries and languages) which makes them 10000x more awesome than if they had done it in DX9/Microsoft Visual C++ imo. The more you let Microsoft control games via Direct-X which sucks according to the GodFather of FPS- John Carmack the coder and creator of Doom1-3 and Quake1&2. DirectX is why there are no games for Mac or Linux. i.e. WoW can use DX or OpenGL.

    This game blows. Controls are terrible, they would have been better if they just ripped off homeworld. Graphics are terrible, text in ingame messages are too small, and not accompanied by audio, the whole thing feels like playing some highschooler’s project.

    I have played Sins of a Solar Empire, and it is OK, nothing spectacular…

    Although, haven’t play this yet…

    For those asking about the game from someone who’s actually tried it. Yes the graphics do suck, HOWEVER if all I cared about was graphics I wouldnt be trying out cracked games, I’d have a PS3.

    After going thru part of the training the game seems to have several unique ideas that I havent seen in any 3D Space based RTS, (that includes all 3 Homeworlds). However since the game seems to crash on me every time I try the training (also that appears to be manditory, which is annoying)

    Anyways, if I can get it working, I’m gonna give it a decent try.

    well..it sure is not too pretty/fanciful, but i think the dev’s actually were out for the concept itself about TRUE 3D spatial space-warfare game-design. Also, being a low-budget/niche dev-house, you cant expect mind-blowing graphics and sound effect like HOMEWORLD used to have them. I once had a similar concept in the works, but more complex - Think Elite meets Homeworld. But it got too complicated to code, so i scrapped it/put it on ice for now.

    It’s not a good game.
    Graphics are very simple and gameplay is awful - that’s they main problem.
    I think they create this game based on what they saw in Sins of a Solar Empire.
    Cheathappens create a trainer for the game but they state no more updates will be made to the game since it’s very buggy.

    Who knows, 1 day we’ll see a better game produced by this dev team. For a start I think it’s OK.

    I feel like this game could have been better. The game lacks some necessary tools for managing large fleets and economies. For example, they could have done a list view for the ships/stations so you can click on a ship from a list rather than struggling with the 3D interface. You can zoom out as well to find ships/stations but this does not help if you just want to pick one ship/station especially since there is no way to identify individual ships/stations from the game aside from going through each ship checking their stats which takes time. A name generator for space stations/planets would have helped us distinguish them from each other much easier. If they just do these two things, add ability to name ships/stations and ability to have these names appear on the map that would help a lot. As for the graphics, I don’t really have any complaints, the game seems to use “simple” graphics mode by default… you have to enable 3D graphics manually. Maybe next time they’ll improve and get better at making these games and not rush them to market…

    This game sucks in almost all aspects. This is some sort of indie production but that is no excuse. Some of the mistakes made in this game are simply too bad for any professional to make. For example, in some circunstances the text you have to read cannot be read because the game displays letters on top of each other.

    But this i could live with if the gameplay was anything to brag about… Revolutionize and redefine RTS games? Sure, after this crap manages to get released all other developer will have much lower standards.

    BTW, for those wondering, graphics i don’t care about. I’m still playing games from the 90’s. This game just plain suck.
