Shaggy – Intoxication (2007)

Cd coverIntoxication is an album released by Shaggy in 2007. Shaggy has already released a video for the song called “Church Heathen”, the first single from the album in the UK. The second single from the album is called “What’s Love” featuring Konvict Muzik owner, Akon.

Shaggy brings on his new CD, Intoxication, a mixture of everything Shaggy. Release is great, except some will object to it being ripped as WMAs.

Shaggy is a good example of how a single song can quickly take a relatively unknown performer straight to the top. For him, the song was a cover of the mid-’60s early reggae smash “Oh Carolina” (originally done by the Folkes Brothers for Prince Buster). Making full use of the production expertise of New York recording wizard Sting Int’l, and some excellent back-up musicians, including Latino percussionist Jimmy Delgado, and samples from the original recording and an underlying theme taken from “Peter Gunn,” Shaggy added his own special “dog-a-muffin” (his name for his style) touch to the tune and found himself with a runaway international hit that was particularly popular in Britain, where his song received airplay on Radio One (reggae songs almost never get airplay there) and shared the number one spot with a Michael Jackson tune in 1993.

I hate shaggy so much.. I hate the way that he puts on that hideous Jamaican accent because he thinks he is all roots. If Bob Marley heard “Mr Bombastic” he would turn in his grave.

    @ Zep,

C’mon, give the guy a break. It’s not as if he’s ever been a serious artist like Marley. His is more of a cartoon version of Reggae – a bit of throwaway fun that I don’t think he himself takes seriously. Would you prefer he tries EMO for his next album? ;)

    BTW, it wasn’t me. 8-)

I had the pleasure of reviewing this album myself and have found it to have some crossover appeal. I will agree with the others that his music is not traditional reggae or dancehall but a crossover version. If you would like to hear them or get mp3’s you can visit FiWEH.com, the only site currently offering full listen of certain tracks.

did this guy name every song after himself or is that JAH’s dislexic way of naming songs? either way I would say one of them has too much bong water in the brain
