Service Pack 1 for Vista on the way
The new version of Microsoft’s latest operating system is not even in sale for public and MS coders already plan to release first Service Pack for Vista. Many people stand for the idea of not installing Vista unless first SP appears, and it is probably going to happen way sooner than we all thought. The company has put out a call for “customers and partners (to) actively test and provide feedback on Windows Vista SP1 to help us prepare for its release in the second half of CY07 (calendar year 2007).” Microsoft hasn’t released details of exactly what changes will be wrought in Vista SP1, which has been assigned the codename ‘Fiji’ but some OS components which missed the RTM cut-off will almost certainly be rolled into the update.
One of the candidates for this better-late-than-never brigade would be the Windows PowerShell, previously Microsoft Shell — a .NET-based command line shell with its own scripting language. Testers will be enrolled in the Vista SP1 “Technology Adoption Program” and “must be willing to provide feedback and deploy pre-release builds into production environments.” In exchange, Microsoft promises they will have “an opportunity to influence product changes including the opportunity to work directly with product groups influencing their short term and long term goals”. Channels of communications back to the mother ship will include weekly LiveMeeting sessions, “onsite events and regular conference calls” with “24/7 production support for the Service Pack throughout the program.” If Vista SP1 scrapes in by December 2007 it will have been 11 months since the OS itself debuted — the same length of time it took for Windows XP to get its first service pack. Well may be the next time they will try to release something, they could postpone it for 1 year and include the Service Pack already in the first release…

aviable in austria vienna already ..
availible everywhere now i think ^^
well AFAIK it should be launched at an event on Times Square in New York City on January 29…
And still no real working crack, afaik.
It’s available for businesses.
i think its ok, i like the idea of that SP1 so early. they could release such updatepacks 4x in a year or something, and when there are no security patches than utilities updates like update for WMP, IE, MCenter, new gadgets and options for the sidebar, new wallpapers and so on….why not.
look how many times in a year winamp is updatet or powerdvd or nero…….!
i realy like the idea, it don´t have to be like a antivirus scaner who updates every day but an update every 3 or 4 months, why not??!!
what you all think??
see ya
good peaple
well windows vista is aviable for everybody at least in austria …. launch was 1 week ago ..
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 32Bit DVD, german € 177,89
Microsoft Windows Vista Ultimate 64Bit DVD, german € 177,89
Actually, this is really aimed at businesses and people who openly said they don’t plan to bother Vista until SP1. (Which everyone here has failed to see).
lol, the way this is going vista will have more service packs than win 2000..
Vista is crap. Stay with XP until the next better OS comes out.
VISTA = MS ME edtion
win95
service pack 1 will include the “bill” of “bill gates” signature
to all the Linux supporters…
let me know when Linux gets DirectX 10 quality gaming with mass gaming company support, and i’ll start using Linux.
until then, shut up, because Linux doesn’t have gaming, and no gaming means it’s not a valid OS for most home users.
Someone mentioned there is no real working crack. Has anyone tried this:
http://keznews.com/1951_Permanently_Activate_Windows_Vista_by_Skip_Activation_with_Patched_TimerStop_sys_Crack
It works not by using files from a RC, but instead by changing the “call home” essentially giving you permanent activation.
I want to try vista but until there’s a crack/patch that I know will work 100% I don’t wanna install it.
Any feedback on the above patch, or any other successful, verified method would be greatly appreciated!
the service pack for XP was released withn the first year aswell.. so why shouldnt they be working on it at microsoft?
i fail to se whats causeing everyones knickers to get in a twist
Cool thing about this SP1. I guess Vista needs 2 or 3 service packs, before it really works. I had one installed (it was a free Vista Business from MSDNAA), and even Microsoft’s Visual Studio 2005 (this one beeing free as well from MSDNAA) didn’t worked on Vista
… Cool stuff…
AlexC: Get Visual Studio 2005 SP 1 for Vista compatiblity…

I’ve heard that you can actually lower Vista’s install standards from One DVD to actually ONE CD ROM. I know it sounds too good to be true. But in the past they’ve managed to get Windows XP on to like 200 Megs of CD space.
Does anyone know when someone is going to be releasing a Tiny version of Windows Vista?
