SEGA licences more Marvel comics
Sega of America has announced an expanded relationship with Marvel Entertainment, to include the rights to develop and distribute games inspired by Marvel Comics characters Captain America, The Incredible Hulk and Thor. The acquisition of the rights is described as an “exclusive, multi-year global licensing agreement”, with Sega able to create titles for console, handheld and PC platforms based on both the comic books and planned feature film adaptations of each character. The announcement follows Sega’s licensing of the Iron Man character, with the first game due to be based on the forthcoming 2008 movie starring Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man/Tony Stark.
A new movie based on The Incredible Hulk is also expected in 2008 and will star Edward Norton. The release date and nature of the movies based on Captain America and Thor are less well known, with the latter apparently being scripted by Mark Protosevich, whose previous work includes Poseidon and forthcoming Will Smith vehicle I Am Legend. Marvel Comics characters are one of the most widely licensed properties in the whole video games industry, with publishers including Konami, Activision, Electronic Arts, Microsoft, THQ and Take-Two Interactive all currently licensing either specific characters or usages of the entire Marvel universe. Despite enquiries by Gamasutra, Sega has so far been unable to clarify whether the licensing of the three new characters will limit their appearance in titles from other companies. It’s clear that all characters from Marvel are real legends so we can be only happy to see more of them in movies or video games…

I like the Hulk but they screwed up the last one. Licensing more Marvel stuff is good because the comics are not selling well, so they need alternate revenue streams. An Iron Man movie would be good, as well as a Submariner flick but the rest of the Marvel stuff is not that desirable in movie form. With the exception of Spider-Man and X-Men, most stuff does not transfer well to the big screen.
Is it just me or does anybody else find the combination of Edward Norton and The Hulk a bit weird? I really enjoy his acting and I’ve seen all but 1 of his movies, but the hulk? Besides, the first movie was pretty boring anyway.
it’s all about movie and game business
if we have to do comic heroes on the screen, wy not doing that as it was done in the first place? the answer is series =) looking forward to for an exampel friday night for another episode of Fantastic 4
Submariner sucks always has…how about deadpool..even the infinity gauntlet series would be OK. and what about some MAXX not marvel but would still kick ass
Ozzy Osbourne should be Iron Man and Thor should be shot (for the gay helmet). As for George Bush and Green Giant I don’t know. lol
I actually liked a lot of Image comic stuff, most of it actually.
I wanna see Wonder Woman dammit… And with an actress that has the same physique as the comic book Wonder Woman ^^
Even though the movie sucked the Hulk game for Xbox was awesome. Sega tends to make many shitty games..lets hope they don’t screw thigns this time.
Sounds sweeet, norton as banner…good choice, see the ultimate avengers cartoons, that depiction of banner was closer to what bruce should be, Norton could pull that off reall well…
and c’mon Ryan Reynolds just has to be the wise crackin Deadpool…if he was meant to do anything, its that…
