Scooter – And No Matches (2007)

There’s absolutely no need to introduce german dance/trance band Scooter, everyone knows their hits like How Much Is The Fish or Fire. Their best years are definitely over, but they are still active and they cook up a new hit from time to time. Latest single “And No Matches” released just a few minutes ago has such a potential. This CDM release contains 4 versions of this song.

Scooter are a successful German dance band, who have sold over 12 million records and have earned 60 gold and platinum awards. The band is currently made up of members H.P. Baxxter, Rick J. Jordan and new member Michael Simon. They have a sort of “trademark” sound, with most of their songs featuring some “rap shouting”, sometimes featuring a high pitched vocal. Much of their music features elements of a live performance, including the roar of the crowd, and the echoing sound of H.P.’s voice.

There is indeed absolutely no need to introduce german dance/trance band Scooter –

But you did anyway – why did you do what you did and who the hell are they?

I for one do not know any of the hits especially the Fried Fish one…

    Scooter isn’t Dance nor Trance.
It’s closer to Happy Hardcore or Gabber.
Yes I know the term Hardcore is stolen from the Hardcore punkscene.
Trance is lots more mellow and has more flow.
This is more faster and louder than Trance or Dance.

nothing makes you feel old and out of it like someone saying “no need to introduce” and you’ve never heard a single mention of them ever. At least I’m not the only one. Dance/Trance/ gabber/ hardcore…it’s like giving names to my turds.

Sorry…to each his own, but I’d rather stick a pencil in my ear.

    @13

Scooter have been around for an age, and although I’ve never liked any of the songs that they’ve produced under that name, they have produced different styles of music under different names.

Back in 2000 they released a song called Sunrise under the name of Ratty, and it was quite good. It was far more like the trance of the time than like the happy hardcore crap they seem to pump out under the Scooter name.

So when Martin refers to their “better days” I imagine he’ll be talking about them. Hell, some of you might even have heard Sunrise and not realised it’s the same people as Scooter.

    ;)

I am actually quite shocked that anyone who lives outside of Germany has ever heard of this “group”. I wouldn’t go as far as calling this serious music. Scooter have always been kind of a party joke. But they are around for quite some time now so I guess somebody is buying their records.

saying Scooter is bad just shows how many people dont know
    crap about music.

scooter has some of the best produced music evver, sure
they are funny, they make fun of genres and make tonns of money of comic tracks.. and they know it.

They have also made alot of realy good music, like the
allready named Sunrise (which has been recognized to be one of the all time greatest trance tracks in history), we are the greatest, trance atlantic, space cowboy, like hypa said, Rhapsody In E aso.

they are acctualy one of the few bands that have survied from the start of the trance era as we(i) know-it and they are still going strong. Why? becouse they know the industry.
They arent pioneers anymore, but they still make quality
music. And they have shown they can make real music
whenever they want, but usualy they just have fun, making videos with naked babes and shouting easter egg lyrics.

Too many people are too quick to judge them becouse
of their mainstream music, it sound korny, but its made
that way. Listen some more and you will hear the quality
of their music. Its far beyond most productions that
    are out there.

Respect to the man in the ice cream van!

i am from Israel and have known about scooter for many years, the big problem with scooter and especialy their latest tracks is that they have a problem of being unoriginal, they try to be like other genres, and they also base there music on many baselines and lyrics of other songs (with permission i hope), here is an example:

Ratty “Sunrise” – although it may sound not bad, the baseline is ver very similar to darude like many picked up quickly, which is very an original, and most of the lyrics and music of the main chours (i did all my best to smile… etc) was taken from “did i dream” by lost witness (with an amazing remix by DJ Tiesto), which is much better then this song.

And No Matches – the music of the vocals (the singing tone) is very ovoisly

Age of love – terminator theme sampled

and there are many other samples taken from other songs, now as some songs may work good with sampling, a band which does this to 90% of their songs is just unoriginal, but as said before, this band can be entertaing in party’s…

    This. Is. Just. Great!
OK, they had their “bad” years in 2003-2006 (IMHO). But now they are back. Just love the new sound in Lass Uns Tanzen, The Fish Is Jumping and now this. In the beginning they made more like hardcore, then came the “dance” phase and now they seem to gone to jumpstyle or something. Scooter was THE band that made me listen to techno and stuff. HARDCORE WILL NEVER DIE! And seems like Scooter won’t either.

Whether you like something or not is dependent only on your taste, so dont be surprised, when someone (me, for example) doesnt understand all the great qualities of this stuff… though this might hold all the fun and goodness for you, for me it this stuff painful to listen to. Even though i kinda like some of trance stuff (http://uk.youtube.com/watch?v=6KzCAlc5H5Y&feature=related kicks ass), i still hate scooter. Not because i hate the genre, not because i know too little about music, just cos they make me cry. Understood?:)

Heh I’m really surprised that anyone outside of Germany has heird of them…

well it the kind of fun or happy but quite senseless themed music and those has it times in ppls lives here and there; don’t has to be scooter but it seems they are doing quite well with what they are doing. I think around 1995-1999 they were quite popular over here but couldn’t keep up with the kind of trash that popped out everywhere with the ringtone-comercial crap (is that stuff so annoying outside of germany as well?).

What I have to say is that H.P. guy always seemed kind of honest about his music and his self and never seemed to forget where he came from. For one he married one of his dancer girls and thats mainly the only thing you remember from or know about him around here…

He never tried to be a genius, never tried to sell anything of his work as something maybe more meaningful as far as I know also their videos were kind of interesting not just the dancing, half-naked or plain naked chicks,…

of course with songs like “how much is the fish” you couldn’t really and probably shouldn’t really talk about it to anyone not really an ice breaker but it’s the stuff which always has been around somewhere and always made some money somehow and got remixed or at least was used in World of Warcraft gameplay videos,… so hey thats not too bad I guess and if it’s for a living, who are we to judge?

I mean one could end up being a politician or a hitman so hey it could be worse.

scooter just covered a techno underground hit (and very badly) back in the early 90’s for their first hit. ever since they stuck to the same lame formula. beyond my grasp why they are still selling stuff.

    November 23rd, 2007 | 12:47

Well, Scooter has been around cca. from 1994. Yes, their golden era of the first 2 or 3 albums are long gone, but even the newer ones are good if you consider, that they just went along with the changing scene and evolving of styles and propably to earn more profit.

Not many bands/artist/project in electronic music have stayed around for so long. At least under the same name :)

If you remember the “dance music” boom in the 1990-1996, many projects emerged to release a single or two and vanish from the scene forever.

Scooter is sort of classic, like it or not.

To be honest, I’ve heard almost all of their tracks :)

They’re easily one of the worst “dance music” groups on the entire planet and anyone who thinks this is Techno music needs a bullet in the head or a few lessons in musical history. This is the cheesiest cheapest euro trash pop dance/trance you can find.

Like somebody said , scooter is well known in Russia.
He has been on the market since 1994 and constantly releasing new albums. Yes, some of them are not great, but hey- you can always find 2-3 songs that are anthems in the clubs ( and I am not talking just Russia- Right now I live in Canada, Toronto). And rest of the songs ( at least most of them are surely listenable. People going crazy when they hear Scooter.
Can’t wait to hear new album
