It is with great sadness that I have to write this article. The rlslog family has lost a member brother, Sander van den Hout aka ‘Scit‘, one of the most popular staff members here on rlslog being with us for almost 1 year, committed suicide on Tuesday 15th of January 2008. He contributed to the site in so many ways, not just for the 83 excellent posts he wrote for rlslog but for his friendship, comradery and the jokes… good times. He can never be replaced. Our sincere condolences go out to Sanders family, girlfriend and friends, we cannot imagine what this must be like. See you on the other side my friend, my brother… Please honor his memory.

Note: We will begin posting again later this evening, until then let us grieve.

    I know way down here it’s likey no one will read this, but I post anyway. I think it was Michael Moore who said something along the lines of “life really sucks when you are a teenager, but you know what, it gets a lot better with age”. I always felt this rang true. When I was 19 I felt depressed, opressed, futile, angry, worthless and at times suicidal. 15 years on and I can’t begin to account for how good life has been to me and how brief and misguided those early emotions were. It’s a shame no one tells you this.

    I have been using the site every day for months now, this kind of thing… People that are, in a very real way, a part of your daily life, yet also, in a very real way, aren’t… Life is bloody weird, isn’t it, and when it ends for someone is the point where we realize it.

    BUT WHY!? DAMNIT. I just feel sorry now, why would he kill himself? No reason I can imagine, I just can’t understand why someone would suicide.

    Scit like the rest of us here was leading a privileged life, had everything he could possibly need and more to live his life. I just don’t understand what in people’s minds drives them to suicide. There a billions of people leading less fortunate lives than we are, some are dying everyday from war, famine, disease. Other are getting abused everyday, as sex slaves, sweat shop laborers and a vast array of other degrading lifestyles. They for some reason are not inclined to suicide, in fact many of them are happier than some of the depressed and mentally unstable here in North America, so they do not contemplate suicide as a way out, since all they’ve ever known is the life they have.

    whielst what you say is reasoned, it is not the reality of being in a situation you know not how to deal with. Thankfully you haven’t been there. The pressures of a ‘privileged’ life can trip this switch of response to situation.

    Let’s show respect and mourning not needless analysis. Yes there is always some one worse off than you, that has less and does more – but sometimes humans are human and act in ways that others consider irrational.

    We do not judge over the dead, we mourn them.

    Suicide is always a nasty way to go, but I guess some people cannot handle the disappointments of life, and instead choose to take a chance with what lies beyond.

    Grow up, most people dont support their kids after 16 let alone 20, I had to fend for myself since i was 15. its taken me 10 years of failing a few grades of my senior years in high school (5 to be exact),loosing half my family to death, sh*tty jobs, bankruptcy and loosing a daughter at birth and almost my wife at the same time, ETC ETC i’ve been through it all.
    I’ve got a half decent job, a great wife and son, a nice house and a great car NOW. so don’t give out that crap to everyone about what youve thought about doing GO GET SOME HELP for it.
    Commiting suicide is just an excuse and a cowardly way to go. Try thinking of everything that happens to everyone else around the person that commits suicide and what they have to go through. if youve got issues get some help from someone. And yes there is help somewhere for everyone.if you’ve got issues, get some FREAKIN help.

    Life sucks not just for you but for everyone but work for what you want like everone else.

    Wow, why am I hearing of more and more suicides… whats up with the youth of today? Or perhaps its just that we have the net and it’s much easier to hear wide spead reports.     I think the biggest think is speaking out about your problems.
    Knowing who to speak to. Depression can affect anyone of any age, any demographic, any social position.
    People need to speak more about their problems, never bottle it up.
    Find a friend or someone you can confide in, even a doctor.
    Life can be hard at times, when different things happen.
    Life is hard for everyone on earth, but we just do our best while we are here regardless.

    Sad he was only 5 years older than me. My brother almost killed himself and it was very difficult for us. Hes better now but i can only imagine what his family is going through. Rest in peace… Condolences to his family and friends

    Anger, sadness, sympathy, dismay and shock is some of the things that come as a result from suicide. The comments regarding feeling sorry for him or the ones being angry at what he did are all normal reactions. I personally knew someone who committed suicide around the same age more or less. His death shocked everyone. And everyone felt differently towards the suicide.
