Scit RiP
It is with great sadness that I have to write this article. The rlslog family has lost a member brother, Sander van den Hout aka ‘Scit‘, one of the most popular staff members here on rlslog being with us for almost 1 year, committed suicide on Tuesday 15th of January 2008. He contributed to the site in so many ways, not just for the 83 excellent posts he wrote for rlslog but for his friendship, comradery and the jokes… good times. He can never be replaced. Our sincere condolences go out to Sanders family, girlfriend and friends, we cannot imagine what this must be like. See you on the other side my friend, my brother… Please honor his memory.

I just want to say that everyone goes through dark times in their life I’ve seen many people go through them and I’ve been there myself. Some suffer more then others and some suffer longer but in the end life is is about fighting through it all. Falling and picking yourself back up.

you’re asking why. hell, i am 20 now and i think a lot about a committing suicide and it’s not that i have some panic attacks or do drugs. i’m a good looking guy, have a nice girl and a lot of friends. but imagine you’re 20, your parents don’t support you financially at all, you have to work and on the top of it you take some classes in college cause you don’t want to be a waiter all your life.
believe me: it’s very, very hard NOT to commit suicide.

Im its so sad i got to that stage last year when i was diagnosed with gambling by my family doctor but i got help and my doctor was brillant even rung me up to see how i was going even more than once.Its so sad when they are young like him.

Wow, I don’t have words to express myself. To see one of the members of a site I visit everyday, and cherish, for who I have the utmost respect die. And suicide of all the ways to go, I would’ve understood if he overdosed, got murdered, anything but suicide. Suicide isn’t the way to go out, but if you are going to kill yourself go out with a bang. I just feel awful, and very sorry for your lose. I give you my deepest sympathy and condolences.
RIP… He’s in a better place without so much hurt in the world anymore.

Suicide is not the Coward’s way out as some have said #85 was one I recall, from one who’s living on an elephant’s dose of Anti-Depressants, there comes a time when you can see no future, and no reason to go on, even though you know you will hurt loads of people through your actions, you get to a point where all you can think about is ending your own suffering.
I hope that he is now in a happier place, and that his family and friends understand that they were in no way to blame, depression is an illness that affects 25% of the population at any one time, and the mind is very clever at hiding it from people, you can be known to be full of life and as happy as Larry, but on the inside you’re a total mess.

I know way down here it’s likey no one will read this, but I post anyway. I think it was Michael Moore who said something along the lines of “life really sucks when you are a teenager, but you know what, it gets a lot better with age”. I always felt this rang true. When I was 19 I felt depressed, opressed, futile, angry, worthless and at times suicidal. 15 years on and I can’t begin to account for how good life has been to me and how brief and misguided those early emotions were. It’s a shame no one tells you this.

BUT WHY!? DAMNIT. I just feel sorry now, why would he kill himself? No reason I can imagine, I just can’t understand why someone would suicide.
Scit like the rest of us here was leading a privileged life, had everything he could possibly need and more to live his life. I just don’t understand what in people’s minds drives them to suicide. There a billions of people leading less fortunate lives than we are, some are dying everyday from war, famine, disease. Other are getting abused everyday, as sex slaves, sweat shop laborers and a vast array of other degrading lifestyles. They for some reason are not inclined to suicide, in fact many of them are happier than some of the depressed and mentally unstable here in North America, so they do not contemplate suicide as a way out, since all they’ve ever known is the life they have.

Grow up, most people dont support their kids after 16 let alone 20, I had to fend for myself since i was 15. its taken me 10 years of failing a few grades of my senior years in high school (5 to be exact),loosing half my family to death, sh*tty jobs, bankruptcy and loosing a daughter at birth and almost my wife at the same time, ETC ETC i’ve been through it all.
I’ve got a half decent job, a great wife and son, a nice house and a great car NOW. so don’t give out that crap to everyone about what youve thought about doing GO GET SOME HELP for it.
Commiting suicide is just an excuse and a cowardly way to go. Try thinking of everything that happens to everyone else around the person that commits suicide and what they have to go through. if youve got issues get some help from someone. His death shocked everyone. And everyone felt differently towards the suicide.

This guy’s almost my age and his b-day is 3 days before mine. His death is sad to us and his familly, but it is not sad in and of itself. To attribute his suicide to a defect in character is insulting. None of us choose to be born, yet we arrive. To end it, not waiting for old age or accident is a choice. I praise his choice and I somehow fill with contentment.

I’m not for suicide, i think it’s a cop out, but I totally feel for his family. Be strong!

I’m so shocked… I never knew someone to commit suicide. He was a member of our RLSLOG editorial team, I spoke with him in the IRC channel.
I keep wanting to believe that this is a joke, and that he’s all right. But it’s not the case.
Apart from an editor here, he had a talent for graffiti art.

i also would like to say that publicly broadcasting how he died was not a good thing to do , especially for the family . thats why you never watch or read such cases on the news .

I don’t want to be rude… but this remembers me the “dead” of famous scener Black Cat (Anthrox/Hoodlum). He commited suicide too. Scene was shocked. All people at the top elite BBS boards commented it and everybody was sad for him and his family. Because Black Cat was nice and friendly person, wellknow in the scene.
Well after 10 years he was ressurected. His dead was just fake news because the authorities were looking for him. So his “suicide” was his successful plan how to avoid jail. After this experience I don’t believe this guy Scit is really dead too. Wait few years and he will be back I am sure. Peace.

very sad news indeed, after reading more info on him that Mr X posted, I really feel for this kid, but that’s about right for suicide-prone people; no-one can tell they’re gonna commit suicide at all, and that makes it difficult for their family or friends to help them. Something in them just snaps and they do it straight away.

why’d he do it? he was young, had a girlfriend…my life sucks as well, but i’m not under the delusion that unless i do something about it that death won’t come for me eventually…the saddest thing with suicide is that you can’t change your mind. RIP, but death will come for all of us eventually, whether we hurry to it or not; life is a blink of an eye, enjoy the flash cuz that’s all we’ll ever get, after that silence forever, without end.

His suicide is obviously a tragedy, but it would nice to get some clarification on the circumstances of his death (did he argue with girlfriend, fail an exam, etc?).
I’m not implying anything other than his death makes little sense without understanding it, and it might have been better to originally have just noted and mourned his death if no further clarification about the suicide is forthcoming.
It’s possible that we might even betraying a trust or the possibility of understanding by publicly announcing it to (relative) strangers. It’s difficult to know how to respond to this, other than register our sadness at a premature loss.

It seems that people more care about how Scit’s family and friends now feel then Scit when we was committing suicide. Guys, 80% of suicides are because of family/social problems. What do you think it all comes from? That he did this for no reason? We can’t choose our families. Sometimes families are ones who hurt the most regardless of who and how old you are. When you’re young parents imagine that “someday he’ll be x” and when you are not they’re just deeply disappointed. Or would you rather be someone they want or be yourself?
From what I know is that 95% of first-time suicides is not successful. It means that he thought and planned it for a long time. He knew what he was doing.
In a japanese tradition suicides are still popular and honorable way to resolve problems that you can’t overcome.
And what I hate the most is people using word: “cowardly”
Our animal instinct makes us fight for our lifes, no matter what price one’ll pay. only human has enough intelligence which let him decide to take a life away when the situation is impossible to overcome.

If someone is hurting that much and they do kill themselves then they ave alot of guts to do so I say.
He must have been hurting pretty bad to go through with it.My friend who did same thing did have problems but we couldn’t have imagined him killing himself.

I don’t really know what to say. He was a good fellow, and he contributed to RLSlog in so many ways as stated. Talked with him a little on mIRC, and I have to say that he’s a positive and good guy. Pretty shocked that he actually commited suicide. My condolences are with his family and all his friends.

but with this support i hope his family and friends can find some comfort no matter how little it might be to them

for those who are contemplating suicide , there is the option of seeing a therapist.
You can talk to a therapist about anything.
They won`t be shocked , they won`t judge you.
Your life might have turned into a mess that you can`t figure out on your own anymore.
A therapist can help you getting your life back together.

For everyone reading this: suicide unfortunately is not the easiest way out, that is only an illusion. We have come here to live and experience, simply make the best out of this.. accept the “pureness” of whatever you’re feeling. May it be misery, depression, anxiety or joy and happiness. He told us nothing before. And one day his mother called, looking for her son. That was the day we felt something must be wrong.

My father commited suicide and so did his father(my grandfather). So i know the pain suicide can bring to those connected.
RIP Scit. I’ll be thinking of his family and friends as this is going to be a very hard time for them all.

Depression a disease, not a mood you’re in! Even You “suicide is the losers way out”-people do understand that the mind can be sick just like the rest of Your body, right? Try to wrap your head around that very basic concept, please!
Whey You’re depressed, you cant think rationally. You really cant see any way out of your troubles – and you think yourself worthless… Your mind makes You think that you are dragging your friends and loved ones down, and that they will be better of without you.
When people suffering from depression tries to kill themselves, its not an act of a coward.. just the opposite. They try to do what they think is best for everyone around them.

I was in a bad place myself a few years back – and was unable to rationally see the source of my troubles for what it was – a disease… a chemical imbalance in the brains, also known as depression. All I registered was that life got more and more horrific and unbearable each day.
Finally I saw a doctor, who prescribed me some medicine which I took for a year. Of cause – my everyday problems didn’t disappear, but the way I looked at them did! I could suddenly again put things in their right perspective – I could appreciate my friends and loved ones again, and I could enjoy what was good in my life.
Being human can be tough – being young is being human without the benefit of experience, and is therefore even harder.
Don’t give up! It may take time – but it does get better!
RIP, Scit! – So sad.
Oh.. and You guys who thinks that God will send people who commit suicide to hell… give him a little credit, will ya’? My guess is that You worship a kind God – not one who punishes sick and sad people for all eternity!

It’s often very hard to tell when someone will try to do things like hurting themselves. My wife has tried on numerous occasions and its a hard thing to see when a person feels that there is no other option but this.
We all know someone with depression whether its diagnosed by a doctor or not, so maybe we should all take a bit more notice of their needs and let them be heard for what they may want.

I have known many adolescents who have thought about suicide. People’s reasons for suicide just cannot be legit in most cases. Some reasons are: “my girlfriend broke up with me” or “people make fun of me” or how about “I don’t have any friends?” Whatever the reason for the thought of suicide, there isn’t a valid one, unless we are dealing in euthanasia.
People usually think suicide is the best and only solution to an insignificant problem. They do not think about the consequences or the people they may hurt in the process. So what if you total your car, or if some people don’t like you and you aren’t the most beautiful and popular person there is. It all matters on what you think about yourself.
One might think: well how would he know how these people feel? I know because I too thought about suicide at one point in my life. But after evaluating the situation and putting some thought into how I not only would be creating the biggest sin there is, but how I will hurt my family and the ones who love me. I came to grips with reality and realized there are much better things in life than to sit and sulk about stupid, insignificant problems that occurred in my day. So what? That’s life.
Suicide is not a solution to any problem. It only makes things worse and more complicated. Depressed people are not the only ones to commit suicide. A person who could seem to be the happiest, most outgoing person you know could kill themselves and you would never be able to figure out why. People just sporadically think that suicide is the best alternative and that it is the end all be all solution to all their problems. But what they don’t think about is that they won’t have anymore problems because they will be dead.
Overall I think suicide is pointless and most people agree that it is the worst possible solution to any problem. There is no excuse whatsoever to take your own life. Any person should be thankful for what they have, they may not have all the money in the world or be the best looking person ever, but even the people who seem to have everything one could want, may not have happiness.

@1256 I hear you my man… Scit was only 3 months older than me… I have Dysthymia and Anxiety disorder and it took me a long time to get on the right meds and I gave up hope once and luckily the hospital was able to bring me back. Suicide …Your Very Bad Decision For your Family
Brother we will miss you, we will miss a great friend.
We speeched at his funeral. That is me, and some off his close friends. It was an honest funeral. Shocking even.. to some older folks. All I can say is. My friends, Scit was a happy guy. Nothing of essence was bothering him. Not to the point of… this. Whatever happend that night… whatever was going on behind his brilliant blue eyes… it wasn’t our scit that did this. He wasn confused. Emotional. We know some old feelings were coming to the surface. We weren’t there. We couldn’t slap the sense back into him. Just know that he was happy. Trust me. His smile, says it all. We’ve got the pictures. He didn’t leave the house with the intention. Of that much we’re sure.
Confused and emotional as he was, he made the worst decision of his life. The way he did it, prooves that. I call it an accident. I hope you might too.

Hello All I am back and I wish I could have done this sooner, however making sure the family of Sander van den Hout was given enough time to grieve was of the upmost important to me.
So many of you contacted me and wanted to donate the family with funeral expenses etc.. so I have created a paypal account that you can donate money into and that money will go towards helping repay Sander’s family for their costs.
His passing was a complete shock to everyone including his family, coworkers and all of us friends.

The reason behind my idea of the Free Obopay Mastercard is this, if you sign up they give you a free $5 to do whatever you want with and I figure why not donate that $5 to the paypal account and we’ll all be doing something to help Sander’s family and in reality it won’t even cost you any of your own money. Although it would surely be more helpful if everyone donated more money than $5 but if just half of you who left comments wanting to help his family we would then be able to provide them a few thousand dollars to help offset their funeral expenses.
