Scene FTP Compromised, Group Leaves!
Flamewars between groups and even individuals in the scene is nothing new, its an almost a daily occurrence and something you have to get used to if you want to be part of the underground. Usually these NFO’s just contain a few hateful words, some “proof” to back there claims along with a few lines of “we are so 1337″ and can sometimes be quite an amusing read. This evening though the controversial group CANALSTREET have left the scene for good after the IP address of one there affiliate sites was included in an NFO during one of these flamewars. Other groups effected include RUSTLERS, CAMERA, HYdRO, ReCode, FuZe, PROP3R and CRiMSON it is unknown whether these group’s will leave as well. The persons or group involved posting the IP addresses is not known but to me it looks like the work of one or 2 individuals.
Most of you wont care that CANALSTREET have left as most of there releases were CAM’s of low quality and as is now confirmed stole there releases from torrent groups such as 2Bros (on another note don’t you find it funny that the scene whines and bitches about P2P users getting scene releases when scene groups themselves steal from P2P!). This “stealing” of P2P releases is the main reason the flamewars started and the heated releasing of NFO’s between the two sides led to aforementioned incident. Now i think that no matter how much you dislike a group you never post information that could compromise there safety and lead to them, affiliate sites and other groups being arrested. Even if there releases were bad, people still used them and used them for free. It seems that these people wanted CANALSTREET out of the scene so badly that they felt they would post the name of the affill site along with admins, other groups who use that site and the all important IP addresses, even stating there ONLiNE and which continent there in.
I’m pretty certain that this site is now offline and will most likley stay offline permanently if the admins have any sense and wish to stay out jail. It must really suck for the admins having to close down their site just because they affilliated with a group. Exposing personal information is not a new thing to the scene, exposing of IRC nicks and other identifiable info has been done in the past but as far as i know this is the first time the IP of a site has been publicly published. There really should a by a scene rule against publishing this sort of info as it’s a huge risk to everyone including other affiliate sites connected with the compromised groups and that could mean no more releases for us! I think it’s just a sad state of affairs when people resort to exposing information that could lead to people being arrested over such trivial things such as “stealing” a source. Even though they were releasing cams there were generally over 3000 seeders and 7000 leechers for their cam releases.

Finally one person who has recognized the impact of the seriousness! If the server shut down for affliating it was a wake up call and the question arises, “How long before RS, MiniNova, BTJunkie, MegaUpload, and every other host both P2P and Pay that decides its not worth prison?”.
I would be doing alot of thinking if I was hosting cause I do not think I could deal with my 4 yr. old and 9 yr. old visiting me on visiting days at the prison once a week. Wow to never be at their graduation or see them get married and walk them down the aisle.
That person risked alot of people and yes their stuff was bad most of the time it still gave people another link to the originators stuff. They should have emailed them the stuff daily and asked them to link it with a new addy everyday but don’t change the NFO! Hell they would have probably just been happy to be in the scene that much but to risk thousands of people if records are asked for or Users are asked for was totally irresponsible and scary.
They will not speak up nor will they even acknowledge the mistake they made so what is it worth but now we all must look behind our backs and I don’t have time to always be looking behind me or I will end up walking into a wall, real shame. Lets hope RLS don’t get shaky feet! Our thanks for a wonderful and honest reveiw on what we do see on here.

Of course it fucking matters – if the sites that groups such a PUKKA, DIAMOND, DONE etc are on became public – we wouldnt have any releases. You guys might not care because it happens to be CANALSTREET – ok fine, but if there are more immature people in the scene like this – then anyone can be at risk for anything, so when your supply of movies, music and porn dry up – then you will fucking care. Before, when shit happened in the scene – it was because an insider from the industry would bring them down. Now these idiots are destroying themselves by stupidly exposing each other. The scene has always had respect within its own community – yeah you bitched about it in the NFO, but thats it – nobody went to these stupid lengths to jeopardise the sites and members.
It was crap like this that made me leave the scene and never look back. Honestly, getting software, movies, whatever a few hours before P2P (At better speeds) just wasn’t worth the stupid NFO and group wars.
Look, no one is going to miss CanalStreet, it’s not like we’re losing an amazing talent. They will probably move to P2P releases. And we all know, most regular P2P users don’t even know that the scene exists and just don’t care who stole who’s release…most are just happy that they get to feel 1337 by downloading stuff in when they want for free.
Unless things change, and a these groups stop being so immature. Competition is fine and is needed for quality releases, but giving out an affiliate site is just bad form.

Shiny puts out great posts on a daily basis. The guy busts his butt providing you with great info on new releases so the lease you can do is give him a break when he misspells a word or two. Otherwise you can always get your scene releases at spell-nazis-scene-releases[dot]com.

Pah! The scene lives on. The IP address leak will mean nothing. If the site is a good one then it will be able to shift IP addresses anyway. If not, it will go down and another one will rise in its place.
The same goes for the groups involved. They will just change their names, bounce their boxes around the globe a few times and be back before anyone really knows they had gone.

On the topic, it’s sad to see this happening to scene-groups. Canalstreet is no big loss, but if this would happen to some major groups we would see less quality releases. It just shows that the “scene” is nothing more than a bunch of sad teenagers that can’t put away their egos. I too would be upset if the IP of my grandmothers bassement would be made public. I never seen anything worthy come from canalstreet, and beyond that it’s stolen. They had it coming. If they suck bad enough they have to steal and even after that have a horrible release THEY ARE BAD FOR THE SCENE period. This was probably the only way to get them to stop, otherwise they just serve as shall we say a dirty wound that just wont leave no matter how you try to cure it. Sometimes the measure has to be taken to get rid of the garbage.

First, the guy or guys who posted the ip are real assholes! That’s really not cosher and nothing necessary to do do a group or an individual. But after all: canalstreet stole their releases, that’s not ok too. I never watched a canalstreet-release as I hate to torture my eyes with cam-releases, though I think it’s best for all if this stealing ends now. But not to the price of other groups, that’s the worst of all.

Its not wakeup call. This has been done several times, ips exposed, real names and so forth. There have been buccaneer, site-down and others.
And what comes to -ind, it means individual – a release that is not tagged under any group’s name.
Also saying that scene steals from p2p is a bit off. Sure, some might do it, but its commonly forbidden and only unnuked releases are on the movie-scene.
But i dont really give a damn about movie groups. When another gets busted, another will arise.

Its not like some feds are refreshing nforce or isonews for nfos for information, heh. Though its really odd that people havent used any more secure ways to distribute and still uses glftpds amont others, with group-tags, handlers and real ip-masks.

I dont really see the logic here. What comes to more talented, thats not really true. Copyprotections have hardened, tages, sf, armadillo.. The same people are around, some quit, some got busted and some switched to make copyprotections for profit.

These “cams” are available almost everywhere off the streets for 5$ each. Never proven that canalstreet “stole” anything. Just because some dude buys the same source and puts it out on p2p first doesnt mean he is the exclusive owner of the source. And yes they are being sold in canada too, toronto for 1.

I could say this is unexpected but that would be lieing, this wasn’t a big suprise. People will do almost anything to spite another. I still think that this was a little over extreme exposing a website with other team groups. The other groups and the ops shouldn’t have been mentioned along side. How about the original producers ? This is unbelieveable ethics you are trying to sell. If someone risks their own lives for being in the scene, they should deserve at least some respect for doing it, right? Wrong. They know the risks, they know that stuff will spread and yet they do it. And not like we are discussing here about some volunteer work for the poor, we are talking about stealing. There is nothing to respect. Sure some scene ethics might sound good, but in real life many people benefit a lot from piracy industry and nothing made in the scene is harmless in any way.
If they would want to stop the p2p/bittorrent users having their stuff, they could do it right away. But i guess the eliteness based on wind wouldnt gain much attention then.

Spot on old chap; the scene has always been full of bitching and in fighting no matter who you are or what group you belong to. I left along long time ago, access to Topsites and release’s before general had an upside (obviously) but when it stops being fun its time to get out.
I miss the camaraderie of my fellow sceners but i don’t miss the bullsh1t and such like that comes with being part of the “underground”

I must say, this won’t kill the scene. As people has said, this has happened before. This does show, however, that some people get really carried away in their little bitching, and that they will stop at nothing to have the biggest e-pen0r. This was unfortunate, yes, but nowhere near as big as people want to make it out to be.
I am not a scener, nor have I been, and I seriously doubt that I’ll ever be one, but I do respect the people that risk their asses to bring me the latest movies/games/music. It was way out of line to release the site info, but it wasn’t unexpected. Sooner or later someone would do something like that, I’m just glad that just one site got exposed. I hope the owner had time to close it down before the cops came knocking on his door.

Im no longer affiliated with melvin or his site Topho’s, but i can say this…I don’t know for sure how the ip was revealed BUT i do know for a fact that Melvin is a straight up guy.I think people should know all the facts before they get a lynch mob together.I left the site because dramas not my thing,and to see all this going on is really dis-heartining.Canalstreet sucked,and they ADMITEDLY stole! But i find it very hard to believe that Melvin exposed ANYONE..thats just NOT his style.
I am associated with melvin and his site,and have to say,i don’t see many coming to his rescue from his site? I guess thats where Ladygore comes in cause as she said shes no longer with the site but she was a huge part of it and made a big difference there,and melvin rocks on the site,and yes he does the site an awesome job there.The entire scene is all about everyone sharing and getting along and doing what it can so the whole world can get what it needs to share with the rest of the world…we all need to get along,and not act like we have an iq of a pee ant,and we all need to remember..what goes round comes round,what we give to 1 comes back 1,000 fold and it will come back no matter what u think,u crap on 1 it will come back,if u think u are exempt think again,somehow someway u will be found,…the rock makes sure of it,I do know that for a fact,..Amen and have a blessed day
