Scars on Broadway – Scars on Broadway (2008)

Although, personally, I was never a fan, I’m not one to deny that System of a Down had a very sizable fanbase.  If you were one of them, you would probably be interested in this release, something from two former members that was recorded after SOAD broke up last year.  So, check this out.

Scars on Broadway is an American rock band. The band currently consists of the System of a Down members Daron Malakian (vocals/guitar) and John Dolmayan (drums), in addition to Franky Perez (guitar/backing vocals), Danny Shamoun (keyboards/percussion), and Dominic Cifarelli (bass).  As from its early days, Daron Malakian always addressed the project as just rock, and “a lot more rock driven, although there will be some metal influences in the SOAD style”.  On what direction the debut album will take, Malakian states: “It will probably be something electronic mixed in with traditional Armenian and thrash, death, black, and doom metal influences. When the music comes out, it will still be structured, just like System of a Down’s music is.”‘.  In a recent interview, Malakian stated that the music will be influenced by classic rock acts such as David Bowie, Brian Eno, Neil Young, and Roxy Music. He also stated that he shifted his songwriting from SOAD’s frazzled metal to more song-based work, inspired by Neil Young and David Bowie.  “I don’t feel we’re the mosh-pit band,” says Malakian. “That’s just where I’m comfortable as a writer right now,” he said, hinting at the band’s rock over metal music approach.

    And for the record:

SOAD isn’t officially broken up, they are on a ‘hiatus’ until the US war overseas is finished….

BUT the members of the band are all doing they’re own thing now- strange.

Good rls- definitely gonna download it :)

    “I don’t feel we’re the mosh-pit band”

    Sure.

It’s more like a birthday party for old people.

I love SOAD’s albums, but this one is simply boring.

    Thanks for uploading anyway.

uuuh, i gotta agree with someone out there. This album is nothing compared to SOAD, the single looks like its two members are training only for a future SOAD comeback.

Ah, Serj Tankian did a great job on Elect The Dead, but the other three can only have luck when SOAD comes back.

Some guy here said SOAD only comeback when the overseas USA war is over? VOTE BARACK OBAMA NOW! WAR IS OVER! SOAD IS COMING BACK! UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUH!

SOAD is not on hiatus because of the “war”. They are on hiatus from themselves.
SOAD, for a “signed to majors” band, was dedicated in the live shows they put on to fans. Many shows in “smaller” venues. They layed it down thick for many and deserve a break.

    Distinguish.

Awesome album. Had it for about 2 days now. Definitely snatch it up if you’re a SOAD fan.

In May 2006, the band announced they were going on hiatus. Daron Malakian has confirmed the break will probably last a few years, but it was Shavo who in an interview with Guitar magazine said it will last at least 3 years, but insists that the band would not be splitting up. He told MTV, “We’re not breaking up. If that was the case, we wouldn’t be doing this Ozzfest. We’re going to take a very long break after Ozzfest and do our own things. We’ve done System for over ten years, and I think it’s healthy to take a rest.”

I hate to say it, but…

Mr Malakian needs to get his ass in rehab! The lyrics to ‘Chemicals’ should be a clue to that…

sounds like a serious case of artist’s block going on here… i feel like all this has been done before on hypnotize / mesmerize…

I have faith that you guys will come back as strongly as you once were, but til then, i’ve pressed STOP & EJECT on all SOAD / Serj – Daron stuff
