Me got the same issue as others, updated Direct X but still no change. I’m running or trying to run it in a below avg sys. But I’m PRETTY DAMN SURE its got to work! My sys cfg: PIV 3.2 GHz, 1 GB RAM, 512 MB 6800 XT.

i had the same problem. argh!
i read in the net and i found it’s a graphical card problem.
it must support pixel shader 3.
now i’m searching the cost of a new card with this feature.
i hope to resolve as soon as possible.

Yes it is a message : directx fail problem.i can’t start the game.i have directx 9 but the message says directx fail.
