    Maybe you should face the truth: telling people they are doing something wrong by quoting a book that justifies mass murder (Deuteronomy 13:13-19), rape (Zechariah 14:1-2), slavery (Exodus 21:20-21) and human sacrifice (Judges 11:29-40) is not only hypocritical but stupid as well.

    It is only stupid when you don't accept "The Book" as truth. True, those things happened in "The Book". But why did those things happen? There is a reason for everything. The laws in "The Book" were broken. And there are consequences for those laws being broken. "The Book" recorded what happened when those laws were broken. G0d makes no apologies for what occurred, nor is HE required to. You break His laws, you owe HIM. G0d owes us nothing, we owe HIM.

    Is an archaic book of rules which hasn't stood the test of time in some parts. Why aren't Christians stoning homo's and killing disobedient children ?. Alot of the crap in there is outdated and not applicable to today's societies. Thats why you got them cherry picking which bits they think are ok. Its pretty violent and typifies the God (Yahweh) its projecting, its probably how bronze age man acted back then.

    Divinely inspired my ass

    Marcus,

    Not exactly outdated. Outdated is an incorrect and ignorant assumption. Not exactly archaic either. In fact, quite the opposite. It is alive. I really dont believe people hate "The Book", I do believe they are afraid of it. They are very afraid. Afraid of what it means to accept it for what it really is, The truth. All people can do is attack it and call it outdated and archaic, but in truth, fear is what drives them. Fear of not being in control and fear of what if. What if it is true? What if there is more to life that just what we see before us? Fear can drive a person to do many bad things. So people hide behind their fears and lash out at what they dont understand and are so blinded by fear that they try to justify their own behavior by calling anything about G0d archaic. But as "The Book" says, "Do not fear, believe in the Father, believe also in Me. I go to prepare a place for you and that where I am you may be also." Just trust in Him, and do not fear.

    @deanx Sounds to me that you are the one who is afraid. The rest of us evolved. So either quit dragging your knuckles on the ground or get the f*ck out of the herd.

    Evolved from what? So, you must be one of those that believe your ancestor is a banana or an ape or a rock or a minnow. Is that right? Sorry dude, but evolution is a myth. There is no such thing as evolution. If it were true, and its not, there would be transitional stages in the fossil record. There arent any transitional stages in the fossil record. Nowhere in the fossil record is evidence of an animal or fish turning into another species. For instance, Show me where a cat or dog turned into a cow or pig. Sorry, it never happened, nor shall it ever happen. Evolution is a myth.

    Pegasus, I agree definitely pretending to be dumb in order to start an argument over the net. I can't believe anyone actually thinks that to be the theory of evolution. Whatever not sure why I even pretend to care what other people over the internet think anyways. Bored.

    Exactly my point. You are ignorant. The teachings of evolution are that one species over time turns into another species. This is evolution in its entire realm. Yes, I know it is bogus, but those are the facts, er lies, of evolution. If you dont realize this, being one who accepts evolution, then you dont believe in evolution either. For what you believe to be evolution is not evolution at all, it is adaption. Adapting to an environment or a climate or a society has nothing to do with evolution. Adaption and evolution are entirely opposite.

    @deanx

    Ignorant maybe but I've read the 'good book' and in my opinion its probably good for its time but not so much today. The fact is there's alot stuff in there that isn't adhered anymore because it seem wrong. To me its blindingly obvious the bible was written and inspired by man, God is so anthropomorphized its ridiculous. I don't fear it at all as its not in sync with reality.

    The concept of belief is just dumb and any rational/intelligent person can see evidence/proof would be a better option. If a God is gonna cast me into a fiery lake for using an instrument of his creation (brain) properly he's not worth worshiping.

    The only fear I have is not knowing how many years I have left of the finite life. Just because the bible says I can have an infinite existence in heaven I won't just take that on faith because its just words in a book. There's way too many questions to heaven/hell seriously at all :-

    1. How do we travel to heaven ?
    2. Prove a soul exists, yet another thing with no proof
    3. How can I be myself in heaven when my memories and personality reside in my brain. They'll both die with me.
    4. Supposedly your in a state of eternal bliss, how will I remember the loves ones I left behind if I'm incapable of feeling sad.
    5. Where is heaven ?
    6. Why is hell so bad ?, because the bible said so. Its providing proof on a place of its own creation.

    I'm sorry but to me its a book of fiction. Jesus' teaching were good and to try and live like him would make anyone into a good person. Apart from the philosophical goodness the bible is a book of assumptions and wishful thinking.

    You only believe in Christianity due to the region you were brought up in. If you brought up in Iraq you'd be preaching the Koran/Quaran to me.

    @deanx

    Your wrong

    Evolution = A theory in the scientific sense, lots of facts can make up a theory. Gravity is also a theory, that false too ?.

    Bible/Religions – Hypothesis, Hope, Wishful thinking, Assumptions. How's my swing ?. Lets be honest there no proof for any of it apart from text in a book and its not rational to take it as truth.

    I base my life on reality rather than faith. Rationality wins over irrationality in my opinion.

    i was gonna resist but some of this was just too funny..

    "If it were true, and its not, there would be transitional stages in the fossil record. There arent any transitional stages in the fossil record. Nowhere in the fossil record is evidence of an animal or fish turning into another species."

    this is one misconception that bothers me about stupid creationists. EVERY creature that ever lived is and was a 'transitional stage'. all of us are. we're not talking about a "cat or dog turned into a cow or pig". we're talking about millions of years of tiny changes in dna that adapt to changing circumstances. of course it's a slow, subtle process that we can't watch from one generation to another, but on a large scale it's excruciatingly obvious. it's also not some wild theoretical guess that we're not sure of–it's an explanation that has yet to see any valid counter-evidence to deny its plausibility. it's no longer disputed scientifically.

    don't get me wrong, the torah's explanation for creation was a great story, but just like every other mythological religion (which christianity ripped off) we've learned not to take it too seriously and interpret it literally. i think that's what Marcus met by saying the bible is archaic.

    @Azathoth

    Chosen passages show your lack of understanding (unless you're intentionally reading out of context). Zechariah 14:1-2 isn't justifying rape, it's stating something that will happen to Jerusalem which "the Lord" will "gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against".

    Judges 11:29-40 doesn't justify human sacrifice, just records something that happened because a human made a stupid vow and stuck to it. Good example of why the Jews were told not to make vows at all.

    I see your problem with Exodus 21:20-21, though it's a law giving some protection to slaves/servants under an existing system (protection that they wouldn't otherwise have had). If you looked elsewhere you could see that (usually temporary) slavery /was/ justified by the laws of Moses, for certain criminals. (Like forced labour in prisons. Keep in mind that the Jews were constantly on the move at the time, so did not have prisons).

    Mass-murder: Basically, yes.
