Samsung ships brand new 1 TB drive

Samsung has begun shipping its F1 series 1TB hard drive promising the world’s highest recording density using only three disks. The Serial ATA 3.5in F1 Series run at 7,200rpm and provide a higher data storage density per platter by using three disks, resulting in faster data processing. Samsung also claims that optimised electronics and power saving modes reduce power consumption and resulting heat dissipation to make the F1 the coolest operating 1TB drive on the market. “Based on published specs for Samsung’s F1 Series and similar products from other suppliers, Samsung’s has the best performance and lowest power consumption of any product in its category,” said Mark Geenen, president at analyst firm TrendFocus.

Perpendicular magnetic recording with Samsung’s flying-on-demand head technology improves recording stability over changing temperature ranges, according to the company. The F1 Series drive features 334GB per-platter capacity, 7,200RPM spindle speed, 32MB cache and a claimed ‘mean time between failures’ of up to 1.2 million hours. It is now shipping with a price tag of $399. Good time to upgrade your old 120 gig drives!

So any torrents or rapidshare links? Please post if you have any.

Btw is it better than halo 3? I don’t want to waste bandwidth if its not any better than halo 3.

    @4

Yeah I think I’ll just wait aXXo’s release if it requires more than 256mb RAM. I don’t wanna waste RAM since I only have 512mb.

Get 2 x Seagate 160GB SATA2 in RAID 0 as primary (just as fast as a single 150GB Raptor) and 1 or 2 of these as storage and your set!

    December 2nd, 2007 | 14:14

mmmm I was never a big fan of Samsung, but i wonder if the bigboys as Western Digital and Seagate will pick up on this and release their own verson of the 3platter 1TB, this is great!! because i’m not a fan of 4platters, its too much unless you got 3TB or something relevant.

btw the article offends me, time to upgrade 120gb drive. Who do they think rls log readers are, some kind of hermits that keep 120gb hdds. 500gb is so cheap now that it makes me thinks what’s the point of burners and bluerays.

    December 2nd, 2007 | 14:28

It’s too bad it’s really only ~931 GB i.e. you don’t get the use of 69GB which is equal to another damn hard drive. =(

It’s an unfortunate side effect of the companies using decimal notation instead of binary, and it only gets worse as the capacities get larger.

All 7200rpm discs suck go with raptor 160gb and raid them and then u can come and say that you play with the big boys ;)

I know its all brand new technology and a cash of 32 mb instead of 16, But a price tag of 399?its 2 times as much as a normal 500gb samsung spinpoint, i will be waiting abit for price reduction.

    Tho awsome news =)

@25 – You err, and not on the safe side:
a proclaimed mtbf of 1,2 million hours translates to only 136,9 years.

I assume the mtbf is rather 1,2 million minutes, not hours.

they create conditions which multiply the amount of wear on something for a shorter space of time

Also you would be better off getting an External 4TB (SAS) Storage box for extra 70 bucks, Buy that instead! :)
