Samsung ships brand new 1 TB drive
Samsung has begun shipping its F1 series 1TB hard drive promising the world’s highest recording density using only three disks. The Serial ATA 3.5in F1 Series run at 7,200rpm and provide a higher data storage density per platter by using three disks, resulting in faster data processing. Samsung also claims that optimised electronics and power saving modes reduce power consumption and resulting heat dissipation to make the F1 the coolest operating 1TB drive on the market. “Based on published specs for Samsung’s F1 Series and similar products from other suppliers, Samsung’s has the best performance and lowest power consumption of any product in its category,” said Mark Geenen, president at analyst firm TrendFocus.
Perpendicular magnetic recording with Samsung’s flying-on-demand head technology improves recording stability over changing temperature ranges, according to the company. The F1 Series drive features 334GB per-platter capacity, 7,200RPM spindle speed, 32MB cache and a claimed ‘mean time between failures’ of up to 1.2 million hours. It is now shipping with a price tag of $399. Good time to upgrade your old 120 gig drives!

Awesome, now I have a hard drive that’s able to store all my Arnold Schwarzenegger movies.
oh my god ..is so perfect …i have 3 HDD in my PC now ….this is the 4 HHD that i will put …so i want to buy one
I am new to computernet, where can I download this.
My hardisk is only 128 ram?
I think this is wrong?
ill skip this and wait for aXXo release.
but you can install an operating system who support 1 tb ?
@3 + 4
wtf r u talking about?!?!!
Damn i hate it when you people go on about aXXo release and pretending to be noobs like is this better or worse that halo 3. Why do you have to say this stuff! Its just boring.
Anyway i hope the prices for the 500GB’s go down more. I wanna get another one.
#3, 4 LOL
But it’s better than Halo 3 ?
Anyway – good it’s having 32MB cache.
If it’s supporting SATA2 + NCQ then I know what I want for my birthsday
Ok guys, I just finished downloading and I will be seeding for the next couple days. Be patient I am trying.
yepz. got this baby already 4days! (purchased for 180GBP).
So far – 908GB free space from 931GB. Love it. Very quiet + fast + not high temp.
:Q____________
need rapidshare link
So any torrents or rapidshare links? Please post if you have any.
Btw is it better than halo 3? I don’t want to waste bandwidth if its not any better than halo 3.
@4
Yeah I think I’ll just wait aXXo’s release if it requires more than 256mb RAM. I don’t wanna waste RAM since I only have 512mb.
Get 2 x Seagate 160GB SATA2 in RAID 0 as primary (just as fast as a single 150GB Raptor) and 1 or 2 of these as storage and your set!
mmmm I was never a big fan of Samsung, but i wonder if the bigboys as Western Digital and Seagate will pick up on this and release their own verson of the 3platter 1TB, this is great!! because i’m not a fan of 4platters, its too much unless you got 3TB or something relevant.
btw the article offends me, time to upgrade 120gb drive. Who do they think rls log readers are, some kind of hermits that keep 120gb hdds. 500gb is so cheap now that it makes me thinks what’s the point of burners and bluerays.
It’s too bad it’s really only ~931 GB i.e. you don’t get the use of 69GB which is equal to another damn hard drive. =(
It’s an unfortunate side effect of the companies using decimal notation instead of binary, and it only gets worse as the capacities get larger.
All 7200rpm discs suck go with raptor 160gb and raid them and then u can come and say that you play with the big boys
I know its all brand new technology and a cash of 32 mb instead of 16, But a price tag of 399?its 2 times as much as a normal 500gb samsung spinpoint, i will be waiting abit for price reduction.
Tho awsome news =)
@3 lmfao.
Do they include a webcam so people can see your faces when you loose 1TB of your precious data?
Ha ha…..say hello new porn disk.
LOL AT 21 !!! hahahha
lol, this is the own scene from rls.. everybody come download…
-.-”
does they know wat is tech news?
btw, is expensive for SEA-country.. anybody willing to donate 1? 1Tb is virtually unlimited if u doing office work.. waiting for tera-era to be here.. (maybe few years later become peta?)
a claimed ‘mean time between failures’ of up to 1.2 million hours, well i for one ain’t gonna take any chances, so im going to back this baby up the minute i hit 148 years old just to be on the safe side…..
OH MY GOD!
I want this drive…….NOW!
It’s time to upgrade my 120 Gb drive.
I’m ok with my 500gb for now. ($150)
Still have 150gb left.
@25 – You err, and not on the safe side:
a proclaimed mtbf of 1,2 million hours translates to only 136,9 years.
I assume the mtbf is rather 1,2 million minutes, not hours.

quote “a claimed ‘mean time between failures’ of up to 1.2 million hours” end quote, not my words Hoags Object….

I seriously need this! But it’s cheaper to just buy 2×500Gb.
Check out my blog:
http://techgamenews.wordpress.com/
aXXo will release this with two platters and same capacity, soon
Very Nice Specs! but the real question is… “will it blend?”
Finally a drive big enough to hold all my porn !!!!
I currently have 947 gig of porn. This HD come out at the right time.
Good News! I have to buy a pair of this!
I’ll wait for the 1 petabyte series.
@34 are you for real 947gig’s of porn???
i wait for the 500 gb flash
Genius marketing.
Just the “F1″ moniker alone makes me want to put one in my computer. Dude, I’ve got an F1 in my computer!
Specs look impressive as well, now for the price…..
Yeah.. 1.2 millon hrs is the quote.. but there is no bloody way they have fully tested a hrad drive with a failure rate of 136.. how the f*ck would they have tested it?
HAS to be more bulls*it marketing.
136 years!!!
dont they use stress testing for this type of thing
they create conditions which multiply the amount of wear on something for a shorter space of time
@40 they probably ran like 2,000 of them for 6 months, had 8 errors and derived it that way.
if the price of this was about $250, id get me one. $400 is not for me. 2 500GB drives will cost about $250 so ill wait for a price drop.
ye.. all new and hot stuff is always premium price, if wallet feels light get a raid card and a ton of 320-400mb drives
their dirt cheap!
And it should be a joy to defrag:)
This is all hyped up crap Samsung and the rest of them getting ready for x-mass and stuff its just a nice 750GB HDD on steriods check the price gap between 750GB models and this it’s a price hike of over $150+ for 250GB… Not for me thanks,
Also you would be better off getting an External 4TB (SAS) Storage box for extra 70 bucks, Buy that instead!
this is the best post to come along since the arnold schwarzenegger muveees
Quit with the jokes about downloads and movies. It got old after the first one. This has been posted in TECH NEWS. That means NEWS about TECH stuff. I’m surrounded by fricking idiots!
