Samsung developed 1GB chip for handhelds
The world minimalization continues, and these Asian manufacturers are again on the lead: Samsung has developed a thin, low-power 1GB chip for portable devices such as cameras, media players and game consoles. The 1GB Mobile DRAM which the South Korean manufacturer claims is an industry first using 80-nanometer process technology, will start shipping in the second quarter of 2007, the company said Wednesday. Samsung believes the new chip will be more cost-effective than other high-density mobile chipsets.
The chip has a new temperature-sensing feature that maximizes the self-refresh cycle to reduce power drain in standby mode by 30 percent over conventional memory chip designs, according to Samsung. It’s also thinner, which could enable a high-density package system of 1.5GB or even 2GB Mobile DRAM memory. Samsung says it could be combined with Flash memory for even more capacity. Where’s this going to stop? I’ve already some problems inserting MicroSD card into my cell phone, and it will be probably only worse

hm, i don’t think you’ll have to handle it. sounds more like a chip that gets soldered to the cell phone boards. they didn’t announce a new standard like microSD?
Dude, where’s the torrent for it???

Sounds nice. I guess ya can’t stop evolution.

my mobile nokia 6670 came with a 64mb card
its enough for some pics and mp3’s

i also have nokia 6670, and i bought 1gb for it, but the only bad thing is mp3 support, only in mono, only one earphone, and it sound like trash, and i cant put ringtones in mp3, what the hell? i thought i bought almost the perfect phone.
its not a phone to hear stereo music in it.. i add mp3 and use it as ringtones. listen music MP3 from the pc. and in the summer at the beach i use a mp3player (128mb) i found once

hmmmm, 1GB.. Well, i have nokia n91 and it has 4GB micro hard drive and installed in it from the manufacturer. And there is another nokia n91 music edition it has 8GB micro hard drive installed in it.
samsun gotta do better than 1GB.
I don’t think alot of the morons posting comments realize that it’s 1GB of RAM not Hard drive space…
