Dito on what 17# Christian said.

And also, why complain so much just because it’s a mac software, it’s not like us mac users go whining on like “Ohmg sux win software” everytime a win application comes around.

    And thanks Christian.

    Guys,

calm down – as stated before, it is Mac stuff. As a matter of a fact, I do have Win machine at home to play with; however I would prefer Mac for work. Not because it is flashy Mac, but because it is a HW/OS with limited amount of combinations – thus effective drivers and inherent stability. You pay extra, but hey – have you ever been in a market for professional WS? I guess not, otherwise the price would not be a complaint.

    Take Sun Ultra45 … you start at $4000 and that is w/o I/O devices…

Their use to be a fairly nice mac only torrent site, torrentskickass.com I believe, or mac.tka.com something like that, not sure if it is still around, I usenet all my mac stuff.

@23, you make a good point, the Sun is 4 times as expensive as a mac loaded with everything, including even a webcam. 20″ core2duo 2.0 ghz with everything and the webcam $1,199. Got a monitor and keyb/mouse? $599.00 for the same specs. So that makes make a higher-end workstation for home users, I mean, the Pro model does use the same OS.. I believe Dell is the only one that can break that price on a comparative pc with features, and maybe a homebuilt.

Now, why is it that PC users get so threatened by mac users? I mean, is their really macphobia, serious… this isn’t just some RLSLOG thing, even outside of the net, like at work, I’m a network architect, I use a Mac for layout (Omni-graffle) and the PC guys, mostly windows techs) get scared of me. They are oddly “inquisitive” about it. Like, when I am not looking they come by and play with the mighty-mouse… ooohh.. its a no button mouse but KNOWS when I right click!! However, they are also oddly unhappy. It is like a catholic nun running into a hard-core darwinist.. funny that MacOS is called Darwin… but really, they have to assert the superiority of Windows while they throw a fit because it keeps locking up. I think, firstly, it is job security, they see mac as competition and they “know” windows, I am using this assumption because they give the linux admins even more grief for not using a GUI (and the Linux guys make $100/hour more than the Windows techs haha). Then, I think they are also just behind in times, they know what mac USE to be, which was crap. The same happened to Novell, the went under, filed BK and cam back with some pretty awesome products, but regardless of the whole new product line, people wouldn’t forgive the first Novell disaster. You never here a real Mac fact cited as a reason macs suck on here, unless is is something for 8 years ago…

Again, thanks VERY much for the mac programs. The Window’s user will slowly shop posting childish posts.

As for this app i don’t need a reason for it. I use popcorn!

I’ll tell you what visualhub, mactheripper and popcorn are an amazing combination.

    Hey,

nice mentioning the win/unix admin disparity. I am myself a telco monitoring system specialist with MCSA certs and significant SunOS experience. I do like windows (XP/Vista) for what is it worth – games and stuff, but doing any serious work is just beyond that. I always use cygwin to do any log processing on Win box. It is way easier in CLI than in GUI.
GUI learning curve is a lot steeper that CLI’s, but as soon you get there, overall productivity is higher with unix_like shells. I even tried MS PowerShell – nice, but not just there yet. It is still an addon rather a default shell. Maybe with Win7.

So WinXP is good for interactive stuff, however, as soon as you are back to serious business stuff, CLI unix_like_shell (linux/OSX/Solaris) is a must.

It all comes down to what you need from the system. If stability, performance and ease of scripting is necessary – you have the answer. If it is ease of use and plenty of apps, Win is the answer, just do not expect it to run a week without restart ;) . And if you want all of that, use Mac. Seriously, how many apps do you actually need for work? Just a handful of them…

PS, and I do not own a Mac. Too expensive around here.

    March 20th, 2008 | 14:41

I’ll stick with Toast 7. 8 was a real CPU hog, and 9 seems to be even worse. I d/l’ed this app and burned 2 dvds… and this app uses all power it can, and doesn’t give it back right away.
this is not faster than 7, just flashier. unless you need the HD option, there’s no reason to upgrade.

  38. GeorG
    March 20th, 2008 | 16:19

Thanks for the advice “14th floor”. 8 and (I guess) 9 are hogs and just add the flashier GUI and the BluRay feature. Can’t remember if 7 burns over two discs when needed as 8 does. The PC users seem to be a bit hostile. I don’t know why. Grow up…

Christian works for papa Steve Jobs and he is a lost soul who thinks that shiny gui and a pretentious UI makes good applications while mac is just bsd with some Steve Jobs and QuadMachKernel mixed in a reversed darwinian way wrapping up open source in a layer of mac UI.. its always the same gray with colorful icons and alternating colors on the filedisplay… Christian why don’t you find a nice macrelated site to post these nice looking but not so functional apps on… i don’t get why you do something that only the minority appreciates….

i don’t get the immature hostility displayed towards people who own macs and/or people interested in their software. it’s not only childish, but just strange. do some of you go into conniptions when an apple commercial airs of tv? you need to get some lives. word.
