Rockstar to offer $90 Special Edition of GTA 4

Rockstar Games today announced a special edition of its biggest game this year, Grand Theft Auto IV. The SE of the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will run $89.99, some $30 more than the $59.99 a la carte game. For the extra triple sawbuck, gamers will receive a bevy of extras. The game will come bundled with a limited edition Rockstar duffel bag and a book containing “never-before-seen production artwork” from the game. Also included will be an audio CD with selections from soundtrack of the game, which is set during the present day. No specific tracks were mentioned, but Rockstar promised that it would contain “new material from top artists available only on this release.”

All the aforementioned goodies will come inside the GTA IV SE’s oddest extra, a fully lockable metal safety deposit box. The bundle will also contain a special keychain with keys to access said lockbox. No photos of the box have yet been made available to the press. Both versions of Grand Theft Auto IV will ship in North America on October 16 and in Europe three days later. Anyway, Microsoft is still going to offer Legendary Edition of HALO 3 for the extremely price of $129 few weeks earlier.

    This is just another money making scheme. Rockstar knows there are millions of GTA fans that will pay an extra $30 for this special edition.

    I don’t think its fair that you should pay more just for an extra few content.

    Ummmmm… Shawn? You are aware that making the game itself is naught save a money making ’scheme’, right?

    @shawn#1

    Not fair? Whats fair then? Get the extra content for the same price? So…when you order food you expect to get the extra large meal for the same price as a small meal? This is how the world works.

    I think this is an intelligent way of making money… pirate it if you will, but if you want the extras you’re gonna pay for them. Smart and smooth imho.

    I would gladly pay for all the extras, and I’m excited just reading about it. Its gonna be the fucking dogs balls! Awesome!!!!

    And “Shawn” the first thing you need to realize is that the games market is a 27 billion dollar a year industry worldwide, now the object of any company that’s in business, is to make money – that’s what business is about – MAKING MONEY. And Rockstar games are good at making money.

    Now goback to school and learn the ways of the world, before making an ass of yourself. Money making scheme you say – well DER!

    And also, you’re an embarrassment Jeff. The way you completely give in to our capitalist society is hideous. I mean, the world doesn’t revolve around money the way you seem to think. There’s also the desire to MAKE A GOOD GAME. >_>

    Right Tric,because without a good game,you can’t MAKE MORE MONEY.

    WTF are half of you talking about?

    They are releasing the special edition which gives you a dufflebag aND some bonus content, it doesn’t change the game at ALL.

    It has nothing to do with making a good game, it’s GTA, it’s fucking good that’s a given. They are merely giving some kewl shit back to the die hard fans willing to spend a little extra $$ to get some kewl limited edition GTA swag.

    If you don’t want the damn dufflebag and posters get the normal fucking version.

    And good luck “pirating” gta4 as the ps3 atleast hasn;’t been hacked yet, and the ps3 is the strongest version of gta4, the xbox360 version (according to rockstar) is very limited and stripped down in comparison.

    Take a look at the shit that comes out in Japan with games, this is merely a step in that direction for North America and other places.

    Rockstar should spend the money they short-change from the console-players to accelerate the developement of a proper PC version ^^

    It’s just a money making scheme…you have hardcore fanboys that will buy this stuff…this is exactly like the so called “collectors edition” DVD’s that get released a couple months after the original or the like the double DVD sets knowing they can fit all the extras on one disk…to each his own to whoever lets these big companies get over on them buy purchasing this stuff.

    Its there if you want it, if not just get the game. I’ll probably download the bonus cd, use my regular bag and safe and pirate the artwork myself with tracing paper! you cant buy class like that!

    @phishybongwaters

    Where did you read that the 360 version will be “stripped down”.

    The article where Rockstar’s creative vice president Dan Houser said the fact not all 360’s have a HDD can cause limitations was in the official Playstation magazine and shouldn’t be read as gospel.

    He also said “both (consoles) have enormous challenges” and that “both have their own particular pleasures and pains”. Also the game the’ve been demoing to the press has been running on a 360.

    And the fact Blue-Ray has more storage means diddly if they don’t have content to fill it (content costs money). Also If they could get VMD on 360 (via software update) to work this would be moot (20 – 40gig discs with existing red laser technololgy).

    90$ special edition, I dont think so, rockstar is a good company but they will never have a game or content in a box that is worth 90 dollars, fuck them in the ass with a hot steel rod, you can go to hell rockstar..

    WTF is with all these kids claming its nothing more than a money making scheme on Rockstar’s behalf. If any of you had a clue, you’d realize that Rockstar make good games – people buy them – and they make money. That’s why they’re in business, and that’s why they’re a company that’s worth millions.

    It has nothing to do with schemes or shadey back alley deals, it’s the free market – and as I said earlier, it’s a market that turns over Billions of dollars every year. And a large percentage of that money goes back into the investing of new technologies to make better games for idiots like you.

    Bottom line: If you don’t like supporting Rockstar – then don’t! But don’t whinge when games become more expensive and less fun to play.

    Rockstar have always delivered the goods. And you know that when you fork out $100 for a game, you know you’re getting quality.

    With some grumblings that the lack of HDD on “all” 360’s may limit the game on Xbox (for cacheing i suppose), why not bring out a useful version.

    Make a HDD compulsory on 360 and bring out a GTA bundle with a custom Rockstar hdd.

    Something like llamma’s 360 mod:
