Rockstar teams with Amazon on GTA 4 music downloads

An ingenious service in GTA IV will allow you download the real-world music you hear on Liberty City radios with the help of your cell phone and Amazon.com. If you hear a song you like as you’re tooling around the streets, you can “mark” it by calling ZIT-555-0100 on your cell phone, and soon receive a text message with the song and artist names. If you also happen to be a member of the Rockstar Games Social Club, Rockstar’s community site for GTA IV and all future titles, you’ll receive an email with a link to download the song from Amazon for less than a buck. The songs are DRM-free, so you can play them on whatever you like. GTA IV’s soundtrack boasts more than 150 tunes, so there’s bound to be something you’ll want to add to your playlist.

Golf clap for the sheer brilliance of this scheme. GTA’s music has always been a strong part of the series’ appeal, and making it that much easier for players to identify and download the songs they like is a savvy combination of fan service and business. Citing the success of downloadable music sales as implemented in Rock Band as an inspiration, but boasting the ability to take songs outside of the game, Amazon and Rockstar are looking for similar results from players of Grand Theft Auto 4. The game is set to launch on April 29 for Microsoft’s Xbox 360 and Sony’s PlayStation 3.

gta had every time a great OST -vice city made us remember the gre8 sounds of the 80s, San andreas pump our ears with 90’s Rap, Soul and Alternative Rock!
What to GTA IV? Indie Rock and Post-Punk maybe. Pop too.

    Keep ir going ROCKSTAR!!!

I hope they put the talk stations online too. I like those a heck of a lot better than the music stations.

GTA San Andreas – Highly Compressed [64 KB]:
Here is highly compressed form of GTA San Andreas for those stuck at 56 k bps download speed. The file was compressed using KGB archiver and the setup for it is also include in the rar file. The game size is only 64 KB Smile.Try it for yourself.

    Cons:
    1. Takes a long time to decompress but 70% of the world still uses dial up and most of us don’t have RS accounts.

    1. The size of San Andreas rip is 670 MB approx.
    2. Compressing it with KGB archiver took me a long time.
    3. The game size is 64 kb.
    4. KGB archiver really works.Setup is included in the rar file.Try compressing some file yourself.
    5. This is for people stuck at 0 kbps downloading a 4.5 GB file from RS.com

Yes, anyone would give it a try about what sounds should GTA4’s radio stations bring to us?
ps: when i mean sounds, it could be only styles of music.

it´s a shame rockstar has forgotten the p.c. market for good, they haven´t released any p.c. version of their games since san andreas… a shame i can just imagine how cool manhunt 2 would be without the censored scenes on the p.c. :D

Electronic Arts Inc. said Friday it extended its $2 billion offer for Take-Two Interactive Software Inc. by a week, but added the provision that a “poison pill” adopted earlier in the week by Take-Two be cancelled.

Redwood City-based EA (NASDAQ: ERTS) said it would at least need a promise that the poison pill won’t apply to its current takeover attempt. The attempt to counter a hostile takeover could mean new shares were issued, thus driving up the costs of a takeover.

“The actions of the Take-Two board may increase the risk for their stockholders by delaying a potential transaction,” Owen Mahoney, EA’s senior vice president of corporate development, said in a statement. “We continue to believe that our $26 per share offer price is full and fair, and that a transaction between Take-Two and EA is the most compelling combination financially, strategically and operationally for all parties.”

So wait you have to stop playing, type ZIT-555-0100 with your gamepad, and lord knows that’s painful, and then you receive a message? that doesn’t sound very ergonomic :/ would have been easier if the song’s name just popped up on the side…

Gah horrible horrible graphics. Seems like their GRAPHICS are stuck in the 90’s. They should try updating it instead of just making a whole bunch of different games with the same graphics… like make a directx 10 game of this for pc. incorporate new things or something. idk.. maybe its just me but i could crap out better graphics than this.

What are you smoking? You want Crysis but with hundreds of cars and pedestrians on screen, and that runs on a 360/PS3 instead of on a 20000£ PC?

  25. Kim
    March 29th, 2008 | 02:48

I agree, the radio stations make the game. Graphically ‘San Andreas’ was better but the most of the music sucked, and because of that, I prefer ‘Vice City’.

    March 29th, 2008 | 05:23

well thats just the equivalent to taking out the craploads of trees and water and rocks and and other stuff in crysis. its not a huge sacrifice. if they applied themselves to “advancing” then they could easily make something that looks better than the craps i take.

  28. PXRaVeR
    March 29th, 2008 | 05:28

i mean for gods sake everything in crysis is specially made with its own physics even the trees. even the little animals running around. they COULD do something like that for this game but they figure to stay with graphics that a 1.5 pentium 4 with a 64mb video card could support.

It’s great that Grand Theft Auto 4 will be on Xbox360. Those of us who had Xbox, like myself, had to wait longer to get Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. Hopefully the 4th one will include more Hard Rock/Heavy Metal.

  34. wot?
    March 29th, 2008 | 11:27

They want you the buy the same tracks over and over. You pay for a track on one CD, then you happen to buy a collection CD with the same song on it; you pay again. etc

Next up, pay2whistle. Great deal, for less then a buck you may whistle your favorite song.

I’d rather just find the song on my own, but I have to admit it’s a pretty cool scheme. Say, you hear on the ingame radio to call the number for more info, and you actually have to phone in on your cell. It’s hardly original (anyone remember calling Jessica in the Roger Rabbit NES game?) but still, the 4th-wall-breaking concept it pretty cool.

First off I would like to randomly say that I believe Max Payne 2 was the greatest video game ever created…and for that I will always support rockstar ganes.

Secondly I think this game will be very good, I just hope it comes out on PC because I’m not going back to the systems.
