Rockstar reports record profit, new games
Seven and a half months after Grand Theft Auto IV began its record-breaking retail run, its publisher has reported its annual earnings. For the fiscal year ending October 31, Take-Two Interactive sales were a massive $1.538 billion, way up from the prior year’s $981.8 million. Net income–aka profit–was $97 million, a large step above the $138.4 million net loss the New York-based publisher reported the year prior. Despite the healthy annual finances, Take-Two’s fiscal fourth-quarter revenues were anemic. Though there was a year-over-year jump in sales from $292.6 million to $323.4 million during the August-October period, the company’s loss more than doubled to $15.0 million.

As part of the re-up agreement, Take-Two also “agreed to fund the future development of certain new intellectual property to be owned by a newly formed company controlled by key Rockstar Games team members.” Given its role as financier, Take-Two will publish the unnamed game, which may or may not be the mystery PlayStation 3-exclusive project announced in July 2007. Rockstar recently announced the February 17 release date for Grand Theft Auto IV: The Lost and Damned, the first of two episodes only available for download on the Xbox 360. The first GTA game for the DS, Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars, ships on March 17–St. Patrick’s Day–in North America.

its all about the money … great profit… good for them , but remember that gta 4 as a lot of bugs and don’t work well with ati cards, and i don’t remember so many people complain about a game like this in the last years…
Works fine on the consoles. Ppl had more grief with The Orange Box than this. GTA4 wasnt really developed for PC.
This is rediqulous. How much are they paying the programmers?
since GTA4 is spyware and adware filled with the enemy drm.. and they just rehash the gta series anyways, GTA 3 vice city and san andreas were good games, but overall not alot of fun, after you explore all the islands its gets really boring.. I stopped caring about gta since vice city the last good GTA game imho..
Oh.. So piracy didn’t ruin your income, huh?
It would be interesting to hear the annual income of the PC platforme oriented games (Did GTA 4 PC version do any good ?)
What that means?
Piracy isn’t important! DOWNLOAD GAMES!
GTA IV is WAAAY better on PC if you can run it, makes xbox and ps3 look like sh!t on just medium settings. I can never play GTA on a console again it just looks horrible and the draw distances are a joke.
$97 Million profit from $1.5 Billion income? That’s rubbish!

“since GTA4 is spyware and adware filled with the enemy drm.. ”
Spyware? nope. Adware? nope. “enemy drm” lol you sound like a 9/11 conspiracy theorist calm down, the only thing it does is check if your cd is in the tray, thats it, period.
“and they just rehash the gta series anyways”
You have obviously never played GTA IV, it’s a huge departure from the cartoony GTA series of the past.
“GTA 3 vice city and san andreas were good games, but overall not alot of fun, after you explore all the islands its gets really boring..”
says you. With all the mods on the PC I have been playing san andreas for 3+ years without it ever getting old, and so have plenty other people too judging by the constant addition of new mods.
PC platform sucks, deal with it.
@ GTA IV
Couldn’t agree more – this latest incarnation of the GTA series is definately the best quality, with the best of everything.
Unfortunately, it just doesn’t play as well as it should on my PC (I’ve got a pretty kick-ass PC, 1GB NVidia Card, 4GB RAM) but I’m hoping that they’ll release a proper update soon to cover the balance of the ‘bugs’.
As for the older GTA’s, Vice City and San Andreas both ROCK with the Multiplayer mods available. Certainly not as ‘fluid’ as the newer version – but at least you can play online with a CRACKED copy.
Has anyone been able to use a Pir8 copy to play online with GTA IV?
Is there a way to use private servers or something?

Yeah I hear ya, it didnt run good when I tried playing all the way on high, but after some tweaking I have it running at a solid 40FPS, and it still looks way better than anything the xbox or ps3 could do. When im at the top of the rotterdam tower you can see cars and people across the entire map all the way into alderny, on ps3 they dissapear after just a block or two lol.
Game was made for consoles, costs less to make, test, better control etc. If your PC can’t handle it, don’t blame the Rockstar. Maybe try BUYING the PC version next time to show support. We all pirate, but supporting good products is good for making them even better. Heck, I even bought PS3 just because of this game and I don’t regret it one bit.
Meh they shoulda kept all the features from the first few games i.e. properties, chopshops, lowriders. took to much out for me sure glad i got a $40 trade in on it after i beat it
“Net income–aka profit–was $97 million….”
good then they don`t need my skinkin`$$$…hehehe
The pc version works great over here.
i love the game, i think it´s the best one yet.
I don’t understand why people like GTA 4 so much. The only aspect of the game i found great was the driving, (which, after about 30 minutes becomes a chore, i take taxis whenever i can).
Everything else, the missions etc are pretty bland…
Is that supposed to be a pic of GTA IV? Well, GTA IV doesn’t look half as good
That’s a pic from xbox 360 console version
That picture looks like cr@p compared to the PC version.

@20 “I don’t understand why people like GTA 4 so much.”
Off the top of my head:
Intelligent writing. Hundreds of unique animations. Dozens of distinct gameplay elements. Unequaled amount of audio content. Good humor, at least for a video game. One of the best-realized protagonists in gaming history. Well-developed NPCs. Strong storyline. Smart quest design. Top notch voice acting. Simply unparalleled level of scale, detail and realism. And did I mention intelligent writing? In the days when the childish scribbles of Fallout 3 get praised as “fantastic writing” (IGN), that one alone is sufficient to make a game likable in my view.
I’m glad I’m not part of that profit.
They generated $1.538 billion sales and only $97 million profit? Who’s getting the big cut of the pie?
PC > CONSOLE
in every instance
I agree with #30
I hate consoles and their stupid controllers. I wouldn’t even consider downloading a shooter-game to console. Auto-aim, can’t strafe, can’t look up/down.
PC all the way.
Blame it on the pirates
That post ist a little too positive for what is actually going on.

Take Two shares lost about 25% today. The outlook is really, really bleak.

PC is the BEST platform for implementing new ideas
@33 your right
Take-Two Interactive
TTWO $8.91, -$3.16, -26.2%) fell 26.2% to close at $8.91 after the video-game publisher issued a lower-than-expected forecast. Posted today
“For the fourth fiscal quarter ended Oct. 31, the company said its net loss grew to $15 million, or 20 cents a share, compared with a loss of $7.1 million, or 10 cents a share, for the same period last year.”
“Take-Two expects expects Q1 revenue to come in between $175 million and $225 million, and that’s including holiday sales. Analysts were expecting $326.2 million, according to Marketwatch, and the response sent shares down by more than 27 percent to $8.77—the lowest level in seven years—in early trading. The tumble makes EA’s initial offer of $26 per share seem quite generous in hindsight.”

@33
Even though that may be true, just remember that the Dow is still wayyyyy of its high last year, almost all shares are half or even three quarters in value.
Why is it that the PS3 versions of games never gets any downloadable content in terms of episodic gaming?
Consoles are only for kids, noobs and old ppl.
Well the game looks and run great on my pc. As for platform i owned a ps 1(actually still have it, though i haven't seen it for years
) a PS2 and got the PS3. consoles are better for when you have a small group of friends(3-4) playing at a time, though i buy them cause some good games are exclusive for them or they are released way before than on pc. As for those that say the look better well… they don't. Haven't played a single game on console that can beat the graphics i get on my pc. I know i have a very powerful pc but still as for me there is no comparison, they look ok on consoles till you play on a good pc. Only bad thng i can say on pc is that sometimes porting is awful, when that happens yeah no doubt stick to the console version
